There are many knowledgeable Cooks on GN and I’d like to know what is the best, tastiest Pancake recipe for this evening please?

It intrigues me that it’s a basic store cupboard ingredients recipe
Yet everyone does it differently. 🙂

Forgot to say make the batter in advance, overnight in the fridge makes the best pancakes.

I just put some flour in a bowl, use one or two or three eggs depending on how many I have and how much flour ended up in the bowl. Then add milk till it more or less double cream consistency.

You know l didn't even realise it was Pancake Day. Maybe one of last days to become over the top and he top and monerized.

Pancakes with some kind of banana and chocolate sauce topping really hits the spot.

Always sift flour, it makes lighter pancakes.

I don't measure anything. 2 eggs in mixing bowl with pinch of salt - beat with fork.
Add plain flour - mix in enough to make a doughy paste. Loosen with a little milk then add mire until tge consistency of double cream (runny). Oil a frying pan (I use a pastry brush). Get pan hot and pour in enough mix to thinly cover base of pan. Cook until the sides start to lift, then turn over and cook for similar time.
Makes 5 large ones or more smaller ones. Enjoy!

1 (100g) plain flour
2 eggs
3 (300 ml) milk

One two three - easy as ABC!

Peel and grate potatoes, add grated garlic, rice flour, potato starch from draining the potatoes. Cooked in hot avocado oil.

Maple syrup or applesauce.

Tomorrow is a new day - and you shall have pancakes. 🥞

Silvershadow Tue 17-Feb-26 21:55:55

Yes TillyTrotter it was a real disappointment, no pancakes for us because I didn’t have eggs in. So, it will have to be tomorrow now and I will Make from scratch like you did. I took an easy way out as I’d been at the vets with the dog, then picked up grandson from school, so was tired out. Never mind, it could all be worse.

Bet you were ready for your lovely meal after a shift at the Charity shop Patsy?

TillyTrotter Tue 17-Feb-26 21:22:22

What a waste of effort Silvershadow ?
Shame on Tesco. You would think they could do better than that - all the testing they are supposed to carry out before putting products on the shelf.

Patsy70 Tue 17-Feb-26 20:58:13

OH made ours tonight, as I was volunteering at the charity shop. We had savoury chicken pancakes with a cheese sauce and salad.

Silvershadow Tue 17-Feb-26 20:42:50

Our pancake day went very wrong. In Tesco they were selling this mix in a bottle and you just added water. What could go wrong I thought? Well everything did and they were a stodgy unappealing lumpy mess. They broke up in the frying pan and were not cooking. All went down the waste disposal unit.

I wished I hadn’t been lazy, bought the eggs and made mine as I usually do, so I learned a lesson. Don’t take shortcuts.

I like to make pancakes filled with bolognaise, after we have spag bol. There is usually enough left for pancakes the next morning.

If there is any batter left I do the classic sugar and lemon.

I like to spread garlic & herb butter onto white bread, fill with bolognaise and turn into Toasties / Jaffle. Delicious and I will try your pancake suggestion now. Thank you.

Oh dear, I’m very much a hit and hope! An egg a sploosh of however much milk I have and whizz it together with the first flour I have to hand. Leave it to settle, heat the frying pan and melt a lump of butter in then drain off the excess into the batter and mix into the same and cook away.

TillyTrotter Tue 17-Feb-26 19:20:34

Some might say a bit burnt!

TillyTrotter Tue 17-Feb-26 19:17:59

Well done 😁

TillyTrotter Tue 17-Feb-26 19:13:13

First pancake went to DH , as did 2nd, now I’ll make mine.
Thanks Ladies 😋

Whitewavemark2 Tue 17-Feb-26 17:25:06

I thought that the first pancake is always for the chef?

TillyTrotter Tue 17-Feb-26 16:52:18

Dog , not day !

TillyTrotter Tue 17-Feb-26 16:52:01

Good ‘cos I don’t have a day 😉

Calendargirl Tue 17-Feb-26 15:38:38

I use lard to fry them in.

Needs to be very hot, as others have said.

The first one is usually a bit of a mess, but perfectly edible.

watermeadow Tue 17-Feb-26 14:17:41

I used to make pancakes when there was nothing else for pudding as I always had flour, eggs and milk. Plus sugar and lemon juice.
The simple traditional pancake apparently now needs maple syrup, Nutella, squirty cream, marshmallows, chocolate buttons etc.
The first pancake is experimental as you don’t know if the pan is hot enough so it’s given to the dog.
