How often do you check the weather forecast?

Reading an article in the paper yesterday about signs that we are getting older, I had to dismiss a lot of the list but had to laugh when it said 'checking the weather forecast hourly' which I do (not hourly).

I'm old people so both the local and national, on both breakfast television channels, at least every hour. Followed by the same at lunch and tea time. In-between I check on my smart speaker and phone.

I check the weather every day for a week before a holiday ...other than that I don't bother

What eeziebee said. I wouldn’t pay weather forecasters in tap washers!

Oreo Sat 21-Feb-26 08:16:16

I check every day usually to see if I need an umbrella going to work but since early January I just take the umbrella anyway and have always needed it.Dire isn’t it?

Never.
When I do hear them accidentally at the end of the News. I am surprised that sometimes the predictions are accurate.

Although elderly I am also British and stoic where weather is concerned, so it is a delightful surprise if it actually does stop raining when predicted.

I try to watch the forecast (is it a good day for the washing on the line? Garden chores?) but I always end up getting distracted by what the presenters are wearing or their hairstyle & end up none the wiser about the weather. Why? Doesn't happen with any other presenters confused

I probably check the forecast about once per month . It’s too depressing to see that it’s going to carry on raining for the next 10 days .

I do very little of the things on that list.

Since I was 30 I have noticed things coming "back into fashion" and wondered why anyone would want them again, then had to realise that teenagers and those in their twenties had never worn them.

I try very hard not to talk about aches and pains - n o-one wants to listen to that, surely.

The weather forecast? Right now I check it before going to bed, as I need to know if I have to get up at half-past six to shovel snow.

Otherwise I don't bother with the forecast - it is so often wrong that it makes better sense just to look out the window.

And why did they not include hearing that it is fifty years since such and such happened? Automatically, I think when told that some event took place 50, 40, or 30 years ago, "Oh it can't be so long ago" until I subtract the number of years from my present age, and realise that it is indeed so long ago.

most of them, even found it difficult getting up from a chair...

Some years back there was an article in the news about judging your age. You sat on the floor with arms and legs crossed and then got up....I always wondered how many broken legs that caused by people trying to do it in the middle of the room with nothing to catch hold of and losing their balance with their limbs still crossed. Madness. Especially for those who barely exercised anyway.

I do lots on the list. Who cares. I laugh when my sister says she doesn't repeat herself.....she does... a lot.

Chocolatelovinggran

Well, my two year old GD. takes her shoes off at the door, sits down to put her socks on, and doesn't care about how she looks, so...

Then I'm young at heart

Chardy Thu 19-Feb-26 21:41:58

Every morning I look at forecast to check for walking the dog

Daily, not hourly. I’ll leave that to the Farmers.

AmberGran Thu 19-Feb-26 20:01:22

And I check the weather for the following day every night.

AmberGran Thu 19-Feb-26 20:00:07

I've been doing many of those all my life! I think most people of all ages do at least some of them. Doesn't everyone moan about politics??

No 1 is new and at the moment seldom happens, thankfully. I've never watched an award show but often say 'Who?' when someone mentions the name of a singer/actor.

Nos 6, 8, 11 don't apply yet but gardening is definitely something I wasn't interested in 30 years ago.

How do I check the weather ? I look out the window and go in the garden to feed the birds

Oreo Thu 19-Feb-26 14:05:14

Love it Elless😂
I do quite a few on the list, not saying which ones.

Mollygo Thu 19-Feb-26 14:00:57

Weather forecast app? Yes, to see if it will be good drying weather tomorrow if I do washing tonight or to see if I need to put the frost cover on my windscreen.
I like the list.
5. Not since we’ve had a dog.
10. Only at home. At the pool I stand up to put socks on (does swimming make me younger?)

Whitewavemark2 Thu 19-Feb-26 13:30:06

Every morning to work out what I’m going to do as most of what I enjoy doing is outdoors.

Georgesgran Thu 19-Feb-26 13:23:53

Daily at the moment, but only to see if there’s any sign of improvement.

BoggledMind Thu 19-Feb-26 13:08:04

I can identify with most of the above list, but I don't feel old (early 60s).

I check the weather daily, particularly if I'm leaving the house. I also check it at night during the winter to see if I need to grit the path from the front door to the gate.

nanna8 Thu 19-Feb-26 12:46:41

I check to see if there is a fire ban and just how hot it will get on the very hot days. Probably a couple of times a week . If we are having a day out I check to see if I will need a jacket or not.

DollyD Thu 19-Feb-26 12:35:21

Yes, I check the weather quite often, as I have to try to dodge the rain when I walk my dog. 😊
