How often do you check the weather forecast?

Reading an article in the paper yesterday about signs that we are getting older, I had to dismiss a lot of the list but had to laugh when it said 'checking the weather forecast hourly' which I do (not hourly).

FYI the list was as follows:-

THE TOP 25 SIGNS YOU'RE GETTING OLDER:

1. Talking about aches and pains with friends

2. Groaning when bending down

3. Preferring quiet venues to noisy ones

4. Preferring a quiet drink over a night out

5. Enjoying an early night

6. Not caring about the latest fashion trends

7. Thinking that new music isn't as good as it used to be

8. A recurring ache that doesn't disappear

9. Using phrases like 'back in my day' or 'remember when*?'

10. Sitting down to put socks on

11. Caring less about how you look

12. Taking shoes off as soon as you get inside - slippers have become a necessity!

13. Noticing something you wore in your youth is now back in fashion

14. Starting conversations with 'Do you remember when*?'

15. Reading menus at arm's length

16. Talking to yourself

17. Moaning about politics

18. Feeling more confident/self-assured

19. Getting up at 6am naturally

20. First 'Who?' when watching the Brit Awards

21. Looking forward to gardening

22. Feeling confounded by AI

23. Listening to the radio or podcasts instead of club music

24. Getting excited about new home appliances

25. Checking the weather forecast hourly

Must say, I can put my socks on standing up but who does?!

I check it so I know when it’s better to go for my walk or if I need to be out and about so could be several times.

Guilty as charged grin

Always done, 3, 5, 11, 19…. Probably more.
Besides I KNOW I’m not just getting older, but am old! Don’t give a monkey’s - can’t do anything about it!

I don't need to check the forecast, as I know it will be miserable.

I don't mind the advancing years but I hate the illnesses and infirmities that come with it.

Occasionally check weather but it's mainly when I'm out for the day, so know what to wear. I read that list in the paper and thought that's my DH!

Quite a few on that list apply to me. I do check the weather forecast but not hourly.

Calendargirl Thu 19-Feb-26 11:10:08

I think about 16 of them apply to me, not the hourly checking of weather forecasts though.

But there again, many of them have been relevant for many years, not just as I’ve got older.

Greenfinch Thu 19-Feb-26 11:10:52

I can say yes to 17 out of 25 from the list. I rarely look at the weather forecast as I am not an outside person and if I have to go out the weather does not bother me.

twiglet77 Thu 19-Feb-26 11:37:48

I’ve always had to sit to put socks on, never wake naturally before 07.30, I don’t watch the Brits and haven’t been excited about a domestic appliance since my first microwave oven in about 1980! Must mean that at 69 I’ve still a little way to go.

M0nica Thu 19-Feb-26 11:38:44

I admit to (1). I have never done (2,6,7,11,15,16,20,21, 25), and I have always done the rest, so age does not come into it.

Has anyone else noticed that (9, 14) are essentiaally the same uestion? Perhaps they should be conflated and replaced with (14b) 'Do you keep repeating yourself'

Wyllow3 Thu 19-Feb-26 11:50:32

At the moment I check the weather much more than usual ahead, because any sign of possible sun, I try to keep free!

Lots apply in bits and bobs...

Get up at 6.30! Never! No!

Number 1 - avoid whenever possible unless you are sharing vital information or its someone really close who wants and needs to know the details...

I don't moan about politics, I try to think, "what can be done" which I was brought up with. Moaning is different from engaging in critical thinking.

Definitely 13 - I'm wearing the same style of glasses as the 1970's, they've "come round" again. Note to self: young people aren't always interested. Ooops.

MayBee70 Thu 19-Feb-26 12:01:07

My partner checks it all the time.

DollyD Thu 19-Feb-26 12:35:21

Yes, I check the weather quite often, as I have to try to dodge the rain when I walk my dog. 😊

nanna8 Thu 19-Feb-26 12:46:41

I check to see if there is a fire ban and just how hot it will get on the very hot days. Probably a couple of times a week . If we are having a day out I check to see if I will need a jacket or not.

BoggledMind Thu 19-Feb-26 13:08:04

I can identify with most of the above list, but I don't feel old (early 60s).

I check the weather daily, particularly if I'm leaving the house. I also check it at night during the winter to see if I need to grit the path from the front door to the gate.

Georgesgran Thu 19-Feb-26 13:23:53

Daily at the moment, but only to see if there’s any sign of improvement.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 19-Feb-26 13:30:06

Every morning to work out what I’m going to do as most of what I enjoy doing is outdoors.

Mollygo Thu 19-Feb-26 14:00:57

Weather forecast app? Yes, to see if it will be good drying weather tomorrow if I do washing tonight or to see if I need to put the frost cover on my windscreen.
I like the list.
5. Not since we’ve had a dog.
10. Only at home. At the pool I stand up to put socks on (does swimming make me younger?)

Oreo Thu 19-Feb-26 14:05:14

Love it Elless😂
I do quite a few on the list, not saying which ones.

BlueBelle Thu 19-Feb-26 15:35:48

How do I check the weather ? I look out the window and go in the garden to feed the birds

AmberGran Thu 19-Feb-26 20:00:07

I've been doing many of those all my life! I think most people of all ages do at least some of them. Doesn't everyone moan about politics??

No 1 is new and at the moment seldom happens, thankfully. I've never watched an award show but often say 'Who?' when someone mentions the name of a singer/actor.

Nos 6, 8, 11 don't apply yet but gardening is definitely something I wasn't interested in 30 years ago.

AmberGran Thu 19-Feb-26 20:01:22

And I check the weather for the following day every night.

TillyTrotter Thu 19-Feb-26 20:07:34

Daily, not hourly. I’ll leave that to the Farmers.
