I’ve never spring cleaned but it was something my mother did.
Working in someone else's home
Banking Bullies! Feeling ignored, and most un'appy
I would normally be doing a Spring clean about now so I can spend free time in the garden over the summer.
Due to having moved home in May 2025 and having decluttered and organised everything there is no Spring cleaning.
Instead I am going through my wardrobes, cupboards and drawers to list on Vinted.
It’s great once you get going!
Any money earned will be spent on plants.
Have you thought about or started a Spring clean?
I’ve never spring cleaned but it was something my mother did.
My lovely new friend said she had made a start on her spring cleaning- as we appeared to agree on most matters I thought she was joking- but no, every year she goes through her house from top to bottom- we are both well into our 70s so surely we don’t have time to waste on such things. I did not want to spoil our friendship so didn’t mention I had never spring cleaned in my life.
I have two young cats who are very adept at finding cobwebs . It keeps them amused

Everything that doesn’t move is cleaned on both sides.

What is this Spring Clean? Not part of my vocabulary!! 😏
We just clean as and when it’s needed whatever the season.Me too. I have never done a spring clean - ever.
Same here, I thought Spring cleaning died out in the 1950’s.
I keep the house very clean all year round, it’s easy with modern cleaning products.
We usually do a spring/deep clean twice a year . Pre Christmas and March or April but not this year as we are having an extension built soon and a lot of alterations/ decoration in the rest of the house so each room will be done as necessary.
Haven't done and won't do it

I don't spring clean either, but I do like a good clearout now and then, and Spring is a good time to do it.
I think the old Spring Clean was more popular in the days when coal dust from winter fires got everywhere and people moved wardrobes and bookcases to dust behind them.

I think the buzz word now is ‘deep’ clean.

That term used to be reserved for the likes of operating theatres. But it’s now routinely used by the uber-clean-freaks on Mumsnet, who have to bleach everything every day, in case any particularly determined germ actually makes it over the threshold.
I hope you recover soon Sago .
My spring clean starts as soon as I take my Christmas tree down - and I then fill the house with daffodils. This year is a bit different as we are decorating throughout - which necessitates a clear out of every room, cupboard, drawer etc
Noooo - I clean all year round. I recall in the 1950’s my Mum beating carpets in the washing line. Pillows also on the line for an airing! We have all the modern cleaning equipment. They did spring cleaning - we surely don’t.

Nor me!
I have two-thirds of the sitting-room carpet rolledup as we speak and am waiting for the floor under it to be completely dry after being washed, so I can roll the carpet back into place and roll up the remaining third so I can wash that part of the floor.
This may sound daft, but I cannot roll the entire carpet up on my own, as it becomes too heavy for me to handle, and I do not have anyone who can help with it, so I have devised this method years ago when spring cleaning.
I have used up the water from the floor to clean off the outdoor door-step. The next overcast day we get, I shall use for cleaning windows, but the sun is finally shining here, at long last, so the windows which are filthy will have to wait.
However, I have six other floors in need of washing, so I shall not run out of work anytime soon.

For me it's about those jobs I rarely do during normal cleaning sessions - pull the beds out to clean behind/under, give the spare bedrooms a good going over as they rarely get used or cleaned other than a quick vacuum... yesterday I cleaned some black marks off the paintwork going up the stairs caused by catching our suitcases on the wall over six months ago. I had a go at them a few months ago but yesterday I finally got rid of them. The paint is now faded very slightly but that's invisible compared to the black marks.

I suppose it’s doing the jobs that don’t get done weekly/fortnightly.
I like to hoover and turn mattresses, do the tops of kitchen units, clear out drawers cupboards etc..
I’m doing nothing today however after spending hours throwing up last night, I feel very grim but have managed to hold down a cup of tea 🤞.
Spring clean is what you do when the bright sunlight of the spring shows you the areas that need your attention despite the fact that you already clean regularly. However well you clean you don’t notice everything in the winter because it’s gloomy, it’s the sun that shows the missed greasy finger marks on the wall, cobwebs behind the top of the door curtain, and the faded cushion cover, etc. it’s not about tidy cupboards and routine cleaning tasks, to me anyway.

Had a company in to do it for the first time. Wonderful!
Does sorting cupboards out count? If so then I may have slipped into Domestic Goddess mode ( briefly). I've blitzed the carousel thing in the kitchen...( Ashamed to say that there was more than one or 2 items wayyyyy past their sell by date😱 (but no where near as bad as the Chinese Five Spice I found when moving in 2021...it's BB date was Oct 2005). I've also gone through the plastic containers cupboard....and despite my best efforts there were still 8 lids with no bases and 3 bases with no lids..How does it happen? Spurred on and not letting the fact that I am just 5 weeks post hip revision op I tackled the dresser ( not such a good idea as once down on my knees getting back up was a challenge) Anyway there is now a pile of items awaiting rehoming....who needs 4 Lasagne dishes I asked myself. The Bathroom cupboards were next to be attacked...suffice to say that again there were some medicines confined to a black sack including something I couldn't even recognise and really didn't want to dwell on what or where it was supposed to be applied. Having finally decided enough was enough for one day I went back downstairs to discover that the 4 legged children had got bored and shredded the contents of the recycling box all over the kitchen. Today Slutty Housewife is back in residence and will do nothing more than arrange some daffodils and repeatedly open the newly arranged cupboards and think....That's the Spring Cleaning done..(For at least another 1, 2, 3 months (years if I can get away with it)
Well, I am having to be in this morning awaiting a parcel delivery.
I have decided to use the time wisely by cleaning the tops of my kitchen cupboards, whether they need it or not! 😂
Then I shall put fresh newspaper down to keep them clean for a good while.
😇
