MayBee70 When I experienced an earthuake. I just turned on the radio and the news told me that there had been an earthuake in Dudley, which had been felt as far south as the M4. As I lived north of the M4, I immediately had all the earthquake details I needed.

When you’re alone and a bit scared sometimes you need to speak to a real person even if it’s on the internet, not just hear the news on the radio. I assume you don’t live alone ( apologies if you do) and sometimes don’t see another person for days?

Yes I live alone and can imagine that those of us who don’t see people on a daily basis are more concerned about the ever changing world crises and feel really anxious 😥

Re worry being age related. Absolutely. I look at my 3 daughters.
All working women, one running her own business.
Two of the girls have teenage children.
They havnt got time to worry.

What worries me most is that Trump is only siding with Israel to obliterate Iran as it diverts attention away from his involvement with Epstein.

Not really.Nothing I can do about it. Just hoping I can still get to Cyprus in May.

A little too close for comfort.

My hubs and I were planning to go to Turkiye / The Bosphorus and view the monuments we had not seen on our 1st trip.

This was cancelled due to the problematic Irani / Turkiye / Chipre (Cyprus) issues.

We shall stay in Spain ( northern ) .. La Rioja & The Basque Country which are our faves in the north.

It is complicated as our Prime Minister does not find Trump´s manners to be respectful.

And the opposing political party, is in agreement with Trump.

However, we are not !!!!!

I’m with those who consciously do not worry, all these big events are not under my control so there is no point, what will be will be, my parents and grandparents lived through world wars, depressions and many many crisis, as no doubt will my children and grandchildren, I’m a glass half full person and I also make a point of not listening to main stream media especially not the BBC or our Prime Minister and MPs.

Yes I'm worried. One or two of my friends avidly watch the news channels but most have reduced or totally stopped watching the news.
Burying your head in the sand won't change things, but being bombarded with distressing images and inflammatory press conferences will definitely change your mood.

My worry is for my teenage grandchildren, what sort of world will they have to grow and mature in?

I’m a bit of a worry wart but each day..the news , especially when the headline says BREAKING NEWS..I’m thinking we UK are going to be involved/dragged into the devastating consequences of US/Iran war…

Well we were not dragged into any of the other wars the USA have started during our lifetime, were we?

Do you not think this anxiety is age related. We worry now, because we have time on our hands. When we were younger we kept a brave face so our children would not worry, and we were too busy earning a living to have time to worry about world affairs.

I find life today extremely worrying, and I really worry about what the future will be like for my grandchildren, who are 11 and 4 years old. I think we should keep out of other countries' business, because why should we have to go to war over things that don't concern us, we have enough problems of our own with all the ridiculous things that are going on politically.

It's only a few years since there was mad panic about being dragged into the Ukraine/Russia war. Rising petrol prices, rising food prices.... and here we are again.

So no, I'm not over-anxious. I have absolutely no control over any of the things that are happening so I (almost) ignore them.

I'm far more aware of and concerned about the fact that with the massive flooding in Spain and Portugal and the constant rain in Ireland and the UK there will probably be some food shortages coming up this year. I can do something about that by making sure I have some food reserves in, so that's what I'll concentrate on.

I have trained myself not to worry about things that I cannot change. Works for me.

I don’t let the news occupy my mind too much. I watch at lunchtime and then no more. I cannot change what’s been done. I hope and pray that the wars between nations stops. Too much loss of life being made to fight when they probably do not wish too.
I have a great dislike of Putin, Trump, and the rest of the cohort. Also of men like Epstein and the band of half wits that molested and worse all the young children and women.
They should all be locked up.
Good women should run the world in the name of PEACE. No more wars.

I bury my head in the sand and don’t watch or listen to any news. Works for me .

I tend to watch the news in the morning or at the latest at lunch time. That way I keep up to date with things without looking later in the day which tends to cause me to worry and think about it in the evening and when I am in bed and cannot sleep.

So I dont ignore it and having lived in syria and portugal and other places I am naturally concerned especially for friends still living in Damascus, but there is very little that I can do practically, and whenever I see Trump my blood pressure rises at the way he is behaving , so try to avoid him at all costs. I support what charities I can and do what I can to help whatever is possible but at 80 there is little I can do practically speaking, just tell people how it is living in such places. Praying for things to improve but as long as Trump thinks the world is there to provide him with whatever he needs there will be a problem. Good job that Starmer has legal training and whatever you think of his politics he is definitely more trustworthy and knowledgeable than Trump.

It is really strange,because the cafes are normally full when the weather is pleasant.
It could be that people have chosen to go to the sales in the bigger town nearby .
I was one of the few people out yesterday and today .
My friends were shutting their cafes early.
And others were closing their shops.
I'm going out today and will see if it's changed .
There's still no cars passing on the road where I live .

Possibly people have decided not to go to cafes, etc. because of the news that fuel and petrol costs are likely to rise and they’ve decided to cut back a bit until the situation is clearer?
I find it incredibly hard to believe that people are deciding to stay home out of fear. Fear of what, exactly? Iranian drones are extremely unlikely to rain from the skies.

No we are not. Worrying about something that we have no control over is wasted energy.
If people realised what anxiety/ worrying does to their bodies they might rethink.

Though I havent been out much, it is not like that in the places I have been.

The glorious spring weather and as I'm feeling better I'm out every day chatting to people and taking photographs.

Watching the news is frightening-not helped by sensationalist news headings .
It's natural to worry
I'm worried .
We all are .
I just pray a lot .
My prayers get longer and longer .

I agree, MONica, we need to be aware. My point was, though that as Oreo said, terrible things have always happened, all over the world. In the past, though, people were not as aware. Because of the internet and 24 hour rolling news now (the same report every hour or so), it’s overwhelming if you don’t step back from it all every now and then.

No, it’s always been an unsafe world in all respects and through the ages.

Indeed and it’s shoved under our noses 24/7 now.

I try not to let that happen.

I switch off.
Sometimes a lot.

I think some people go about with scarcely a thought to it all.
Particularly young people with young families.
