I do have to add, we were still in bed by 10:00pm!
Changes in taxation that Andy Burnham seems to be interested in
I was just sat here whimsically thinking about 'Saturday Night'
How when I was young, Friday and Saturday nights were looked forward to all week, obviously time off work, out in town, dancing and having fun.
As we get older obviously lifestyles change for lots of reasons, so let's take a snap shot of how everyone's Saturday night looks right now 14th March.
Here, we have finished tea DH is working on some sort of project in another room. I'm sat at my Laptop reading Gransnet and listening to 'Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show' on Radio6.
It's going quite dark.Later I will watch some tv and then finish the night reading.Exciting times
I do have to add, we were still in bed by 10:00pm!
So last night DH and I, and Poppy our mad cocker, were at our static caravan in St Osyth, I’d made a slowed cooked coconut chicken, with lots of vegs and rice and naan bread and two of our lovely neighbours came over, we all ate and drank far too much 🥂🍷🐘🐘
Watched the best game of rugby I’ve seen in a long time though, being Irish, not the right result! I’m so going to miss the Six Nations.
We rarely go out on a Saturday evening and that’s just fine!
I don't think it's sad unless you feel the lack of a good night out.
I live a cosy Saturday night in. Xx
In my teenage years the friday night was just starting at 10pm...
friday night dance 10 till 2 am, saturday dancing 8 till 12midnight after we were married it was club nights friday saturday and sunday...now we're never out at the weekends unless on a special occasion, so now it's dinner followed by a glass or 3 of wine and watching telly, I haven't got the energy now to get dressed up to go out...how sad is that?
We went out for a meal which we do every Saturday just the two of us or with friends. About every 6 weeks we get together with other friends and we take it in turns to host.
I've had a busy week but we had tickets for the cinema so despite fancying an early night we had an early supper of home made burgers, salad and sweet potato fries and got ready to go out. As OH was driving I had a big glass of red wine. We went to see a Korean film with subtitles, "No other choice" I wish we'd chosen to stay at home and watch TV, I don't recommend it, it's long and as we were in the middle of the row we couldn't walk out either. Got home at 10.00p.m and went to bed with a hot water bottle and read the Saturday magazine for half an hour which I wish I'd been able to do at 09.00 p.m. Not the best Saturday night we've had!
Fed the animals then me, read, watched iPlayer, checked Messenger and the weather forecast, took dog out to wee, had a bath, went to bed.
Just like every other evening.
A large group of our friends went out for a dinner and dance last evening. It’s an annual charity do. We always decline.
I’ve already heard that the dinner was dried up and tasteless, the music too loud and the Elvis impersonator , well! 😬.
Most of them have knee, hip or other impediments so can’t dance. Apart from being quite expensive.
We had a very nice takeaway , changed into pjs and onesie.dh went into the other room to watch footie and I dipped in and out of tv of my choice.
The thought of getting dressed up , out into the dark cold night, doesn’t appeal any more.
I work in a supermarket on Saturday nights. I finish at 10pm. I usually grab a bit of shopping then home for something to eat and a glass of wine while watching a bit of TV .
Last night I had a lazy chicken Korma (sauce from a jar) and my once a week treat Coke Zero can, I’ve been rewatching SAS Rogue Heroes on iPlayer had naughty slice of coffee and walnut cake with a cuppa, watched Casualty read my book for an hour and bed by 10.30. I really know how to live it up 🤣

There'll never be another Saturday night like last night's rugby! What a final! 🏉
Forgot to say, 40 years ago I'd probably have been drunk on the Champs Élysées after such an event!

“I'm laughing to myself as I wonder how many of us would hide behind the curtains if say 'Friends' arrived wanting to whisk us to a party. ??!! Young me would have been out of the door so fast I'd have sparks coming off my heels, me now :'Quick, hide' !!!”
Me too. Back in the day it would have been deemed a disaster if there wasn’t a party to go to or we would hold or attend dinner parties with friends (1970s). These days it’s such an effort to get dressed up to go out, although it is nice occasionally.
Last night we had a Dine In from M&S and both dozed through a recorded House of Games! We know how to live!

Well, next Saturday, I will be involved in a meal out, with music, at a jazz club.
Well, actually, I'm babysitting to enable DD and SIL to enjoy the above.
Several of my pleasures nowadays seem to be vicarious!
It would have to be watching The Good Old Days and singing along to Down at the Old Bull and Bush. I was quite disappointed last night as they were celebrating 25 years (1978) and went out with another favourite old song. I felt quite deprived!
Thanks for this great thread.
I always went out on Friday and Saturday nights. Can’t remember the last time I got dolled up and went out.
We had cauliflower cheese, fried potatoes and vegetable sticks followed by lemon cheesecake.
TV till about 11pm. Dead boring but I did have a couple whisky macs.
We always go for our weekly shop at 5 pm and then bring a pizza back for dinner. After that we read the Saturday paper and supplements and bemoan the fact there is nothing to watch on TV. We watch the news and then go to bed. However, today I have only just come to bed having watched the two tennis semi finals from Indian Wells. They were tremendous matches thoroughly enjoyed by me. I am now going to do Wordle, read for a bit and hopefully then go to sleep for a few hours before waking again about 3:30. I like the idea of having some wine. I will have to include it in my routine.
Usually out for 2 drinks. Back home and TV. Tonight was more exciting. DH will be 80 on Monday so we took daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter and her boyfriend out for an Italian meal. A great time was had by all.
Having lived the Spanish life for over 20 years, where I worked long hours, I became used to a siesta. I now follow the same routine, enabling me to stay up until midnight.
Gammon with spicy wedges and green beans followed by natural yoghurt with a spoonful of home made jam. I should have been going to the folk singalong in the pub but I haven't gone as DH has quite advanced Parkinsons and I am getting anxious about leaving him home alone. He can't come with me as he wouldn't manage steps and I have difficulty getting him up from chairs. He has watched the rugby and I have been doing crosswords and scrolling Facebook. We are now watching Death in Paradise on iplayer, then I will get him into bed and have an hour catching up saved tv that I want to see.
DD drove up from the south this afternoon and immediately changed, then out to a party. I have a humdinger of a cold and ate two sausage rolls I couldn’t taste, along with a Lemsip.
Now watching South Riding from 1974 on YouTube and love these old series (much more than new ones).
I do have regular ‘girls’ nights out in the city and bop around, so haven’t said goodbye completely to being out on the town💃🏻
Cooked myself a roast dinner this evening, the first for some years! It was quite tasty & lots of leftover chicken. I’ve been watching tv, very boring and am now in my nightclothes waiting for the electric blanket to warm the bed before I get into it in half an hour or so!
I had a telephone call from one of my daughters, which was nice.
Sorry you’re still suffering from your fall dragonfly and hope it improves soon.
Saturday nights are generally quiet now.
Well, I think our priorities change as we get older 😁. For me, gone are the days when I’d get dressed up ready to hit the town at a weekend. Great though they were then, I now relish weekend evenings in, enjoying a nice meal with a glass or two of wine and a film on the tv or some music on the CD player. Sounds boring, perhaps, but my desire to be hitting the town, (whatever the weather), are long gone.
