I was just sat here whimsically thinking about 'Saturday Night'
How when I was young, Friday and Saturday nights were looked forward to all week, obviously time off work, out in town, dancing and having fun.
As we get older obviously lifestyles change for lots of reasons, so let's take a snap shot of how everyone's Saturday night looks right now 14th March.

Here, we have finished tea DH is working on some sort of project in another room. I'm sat at my Laptop reading Gransnet and listening to 'Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show' on Radio6.
It's going quite dark.Later I will watch some tv and then finish the night reading.Exciting times hmm

Actually I just realised that was quite a dull post which says quite a lot about my Saturday night !!!

Mine is no more exciting. DH is watching football in the playroom, I'm watching Death in Paradise on iplayer with a glass of rosé. DH will cook spicy chicken wings in a while.

We know how to live.

Your Saturday night actually sounds lovely Rocketstop2 smile
I used to love the weekends as a teenager, out till the early hours clubbing and generally having a great time.
63 now and can barely stay awake til 10.00pm grin

Snap, cheers 🥂

We take it in turns to cook on a Saturday evening, my turn tonight and I am being decidedly lazy and unhealthy in my choice. Ham, egg and chips, which we will have around 7.30-7.45pm.

Off to a night out at the Comedy club in Leeds with my daughter. But this unusual. Usually on the sofa watching tv with a glass of vino.

I am getting stuck in to my mother's day chocolates and will watch a film later after doing some texting.
Don't know how I stand the pace.

Our Saturday night ritual consists of me putting some southern fried chicken strips and southern fried potato wedges in the oven. We have various sauces as dips - barbecue, mayo, ketchup. Sometimes we have dessert.

You can tell we're old as it's something we really look forward to.

I'm veggie but egg and chips sound yum.

kitty, I admire your crazed life. I am revisiting Hettie Wainthrope. Him indoors is tinkering with some fret work.

I'm laughing to myself as I wonder how many of us would hide behind the curtains if say 'Friends' arrived wanting to whisk us to a party. ??!! Young me would have been out of the door so fast I'd have sparks coming off my heels, me now :'Quick, hide' !!!

I have my son who is single visiting from a distance, which is lovely. I've just served us all fajitas as I don't like all the clearing away & washing up later at night nowadays. Rugby (picking over todays matches) on TV so I'll browse a bit on my laptop.

kittylester Sat 14-Mar-26 19:09:54

Some of you stay up until 10.00 pm! Impressive!!

Rocketstop2 Sat 14-Mar-26 19:11:50

Yes and some of us go to sleep at 10 and wake up at 2am !!

I’m not long back from watching my football team, and currently watching Chelsea v Newcastle on the TV with a glass of wine.
Chatting to my brother and sister on WhatsApp about my first grandchild born 2 weeks ago 👶 ❤️

Haha yes, the night was just warming up at 10.00pm. Now I’m literally shattered by midnight. But you know, given the right circumstances ( & company ) I could still enjoy a good night out. could probably even manage a dance or two before collapsing grin

We usually have a naughty meal it’s gammon egg and chips tonight. I have opened a bottle of Prosecco. We will watch something together on tv and be in bed for 10 pm

It usually involves some wine Saturday tends to be a curry night, but my son stayed Thursday in order to take me out for an early Mother's Day lunch Friday, I did one of his favourite curries Thursday. So instead tonight we will have M&S Chicken Kyiv with roast potatoes and vegetables, my o/h's choice, it must come from M&S though, no other supermarket version of that will do. Then we will find something to watch, not always the same thing. I started Channel 4's, 1st episode of a Women of Substance last night so may well continue with that. I suppose tonight is a fairly typical Saturday evening for us.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 14-Mar-26 19:20:01

Just finished our meal - plaice and tray baked veggies, followed by chopped papaya , passion fruit and yogurt.

Sat slumped on the sofa. DH watching “Capture” - I’m reading “Names” and getting an order ready from the butchers, for April - decided to chance it and get some barbecue stuff.

Sat in the garden in the sun with the cat today - it was beautiful, so figured we could think of our first barbecue next month.

Kiwiqueen123 Sat 14-Mar-26 19:20:25

Every other Saturday night treat: Fish and chips. Gin and tonic for OH and glass of white wine for me. I'm trying to lose a few pounds so have been very careful today so think I deserve a treat! Can somebody explain "going out on a Saturday night" please???? So long ago I've forgotten.

Calendargirl Sat 14-Mar-26 19:21:02

We’ve had fish pie for tea. 🐟

I’m in my pyjamas and dressing gown, have just watched episode 2 of ‘A Woman Of Substance’.

Before long, I shall make us each a mug of cocoa, then I shall watch a ‘Midsomer Murders’ until 10.

Then I shall go to bed and read a bit of my library book.

Yes, we are boring old …..

(The thought of getting dressed up to go out on a Saturday night now fills me with horror).
