I was just sat here whimsically thinking about 'Saturday Night'
How when I was young, Friday and Saturday nights were looked forward to all week, obviously time off work, out in town, dancing and having fun.
As we get older obviously lifestyles change for lots of reasons, so let's take a snap shot of how everyone's Saturday night looks right now 14th March.

Here, we have finished tea DH is working on some sort of project in another room. I'm sat at my Laptop reading Gransnet and listening to 'Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show' on Radio6.
It's going quite dark.Later I will watch some tv and then finish the night reading.Exciting times hmm

We had stew and dumplings for dinner with a nice glass or two of Shiraz. Watched the Claudia chat show while Whatsapping my DD,as we hate Casualty and in bed by 9! I am still suffering pain from a fall last weekend!

Before children we were out on a Saturday, post children we had dinner parties with groups of friends. That seems to have died out now.
Now it tends to be just the two of us unless family come to stay.
I love a quiet life!

Early evening I went to pick up DH and friend who had been to watch our local football team.
We picked up a takeaway on the way back.
DH now watching rugby, and trying to stay awake. I've been knitting.
We will watch the news then go to bed.
Very exciting 😀

I’ve just done our weekly family online quiz on Zoom, we’ve been doing it since lockdown, it’s become a tradition for any of us who are home on Saturday evening, and it’s always nice to catch up because we see each other in person infrequently.

Just dremelled the dogs nails and she’s obviously forgiven me as she’s now snuggled up to me watching Bill Bailey on the tv.

Lasagne and salad with glass of red, on the sofa accompanied by slightly smelly snoring spaniel next to me, soon to bed, fresh sheets and collected from library, latest Strike book, I’m a happy bunny😀

Loved this thread. Nice tea something of a treat. Then tv then bed. Seems my rock and roll lifestyle has gone! 😂😂I f it ever started!

Well I gave up on Casualty very quickly. I don’t know if it’s me or our television/reception but I just can’t hear it clearly. I think this is why I stopped watching it before. The sound seems distorted somehow. I’ve tried it with and without hearing aids and it was still bad. Finished my second glass of wine now and I’m off to bed with my kindle instead. Night night everyone.

Alternate Saturdays for me are cards ,dominoes and Baileys with my wonderful neighbour / friend.Tonight it's just today's paper,tv and gin and tonic.
I tape all programmes to avoid the adverts and have just laughed out loud at Gogglebox from Friday.Anyone with Octopus Energy will enjoy the last ten minutes with Olivia Attwood. Just saying

I’m not long back from watching my football team, and currently watching Chelsea v Newcastle on the TV with a glass of wine.
Chatting to my brother and sister on WhatsApp about my first grandchild born 2 weeks ago 👶 ❤️

Congratulations, NotAGran55, my first grandchild was born last October, it's a great moment. Is your grandchild a girl or a boy?
My husband sings in a men's group and he has a concert tonight so I'm home alone. It was nice to eat some leftover dhal with broccoli for supper, I wasn't very hungry and am trying to fight off a virus so will be going to bed early.
Usually we eat about 7pm, we take it in turns to cook, then we moan about the tv and wish there were still Nordic Noir or Spiral French tv series but settle happily enough for Alice Roberts or some similar historian or travel programme.
Quite likely we're glad to sit down with good book. I have a husband who stays up till 11 pm but I can't do that anymore, it's 10 pm to bed for me.
I don't miss those Saturday nights out but I miss the me who was bright and lively and had the energy to be out late.

I had pork stroganoff for dinner with a G&T which was my reward for a good old session in the garden which left me with that nice feeling of scruffy tired if there is such a thing a thing.
Now I’m watching Virgin River on Netflix, wondering whether to have another G&T or a glass of Malbec and wishing there was some chocolate in the house. 😩

An unexpectedly busy day so once home around 5.30 I changed into my PJs and dressing gown. We had lunch out so just a snack this evening.
DH is now watching the rugby and I am painting some postcard size water colours to use for greeting cards.
Perfectly happy with this sort of lazy Saturday evening.

We had duck in housing sauce with stir fry and noodles. Usually listen to Lusa Tarbuck but no more. Got the rugby on but might switch to the West Ham match. A glass of red and kettle on for a cuppa soon. Log fire on as going to be cold tonight. Looking forward to my fleecy sheet and duvet cover!

MG55 Sat 14-Mar-26 20:25:11

Watching England v France. Hoping for an England win so that Ireland wins overall 😀 ☘️
On my own and sipping a glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc.
This time last week I was in Galway visiting relatives.
Two weeks ago on the Saturday night I was at The Royal Exchange in Manchester.
Normally, my weekends are very quiet 💕

Joanofarc99 Sat 14-Mar-26 20:23:23

50 years ago I’d be putting on my false eyelashes, ironing my hair and heading off for a club. Probably back home around one o’clock in the morning.
Tonight I’m watching Gardener’s World on iPlayer and looking forward to an early night.

"The thought of getting dressed up to go out now fills me with horror" Another yes! from me, especially when come 10 pm, a book and bed beckonsgrin

Litterpicker Sat 14-Mar-26 20:09:30

Just had a smoked haddock fish cake with tinned tomatoes and boiled potatoes, followed by the first of this year’s rhubarb from the allotment, with ice-cream. Watching Celebrity Antiques Road Trip. Then the rugby. As we are Scotland and Ireland supporters we’ll be quite happy for England to win this one 😉. Read my book. Then to bed before midnight.

I think I became a grown-up too fast - discos and parties in my teens were quickly followed by marriage at 21 (nearly 22!) and first baby at 23. Clubbing wasn’t a thing then, not where we were anyway 😀

Having had an exciting rugby afternoon 😢 Scotland, 😊Wales.
Dinner eaten and DH gearing up for England game. I’m in the sitting room with wine glass number and will watch Woman of Substance on replay.

Treebee Sat 14-Mar-26 19:55:42

I would normally titter along with Lisa Tarbuck while eating my tea. But she’s not been on for a few weeks and now she’s announced she’s not coming back. Such a shame.
I’ve been enjoying watching Alice Robert’s exploring the Roman Mediterranean area by train and I’ll probably watch that tonight.
Next Saturday we are actually going out out - to a retirement party.

Millie22 Sat 14-Mar-26 19:50:02

Just finished chicken in a mushroom sauce with rice.

Now knitting a baby blanket with 128 stitches in a basketweave pattern.

Shall watch some tennis later from Indian Wells.

dustyangel Sat 14-Mar-26 19:47:47

I’m still on my first glass of wine having just said goodbye to DD1 and SiL who were here on a flying visit. They have just raced down to the road to tell the Uber driver that he’d taken a wrong turning. DD has messaged to say they found each other.
We had lunch out which was lovely so I haven’t got to cook and I think I’ll give Casualty another try tonight not having watched it for a few weeks. I expect I’ll have a second glass of wine too grin blush

crazyH Sat 14-Mar-26 19:42:37

Since I’m on my own, I’ll have whatever’s in the fridge. Tomorrow, daughter and granddaughter are coming for a late lunch.
My neighbour picked up some lovely Sirloin steaks from M&S, mixed veg, potatos etc. I shall marinate the steak with balsamic vinegar , soya sauce etc. That will be our Easter lunch, with chocolate gateau for dessert.
And I shall up till way past midnight, watching sone nonsense on Netflix or YouTube.
It’s a very long time since I went to bed at 10pm. What a lot of healthy larks here !!
