Today I went for a lunch out with a couple of friends The cafe we went to not only allowed dogs in BUT wait for it …. Drum roll ….had a separate printed Dog Menu on each table šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

My immediate thought is unprintable!

I've just read an article about "Dinkwads" ie dual income, no Kids, with a dog. Apparently there's more families with dogs than with children, so it looks as if the cafe is hoping to attract this market. I hope the dogs get a better choice than most children do on a children's menu. On a walk last summer I went to a pub with two dogs. We had a lovely human's menu and both the dogs got a free doggie ice cream which was obviously very tasty as they nearly devoured the cartons as well.

We found a lovely restaurant in the highlands of Scotland when we were there in 2024 . One of my favourite places ever . Scotland I mean , not the smilerestaurant.

There's a special dog cafe near us catering for people as well as dogs

Purplepixie Fri 20-Mar-26 18:23:36

What next?

A cafe not far from us has a menu for dogs but is a chalk board on the wall, and they offer doggy ice cream and sausage surprise.
We don’t go in because the dogs wander about and my DH has a visual impairment as well as physical disabilities so he could fall over one.
Obviously is a profit to be made from dog owners but what about customers
who walk on by rather than eating in a place where there are so many dogs.

Maremia Fri 20-Mar-26 18:38:00

Amazing, that there are more families with dogs than children. šŸ•

Each to their own.

I see more posts than I’d like to about Dog Cafes, dogs here, dogs there, on this site and I get some of you really don’t want to share your eating spaces with other people’s dogs.

If you don’t wish to go into a Dog Cafe, or a hotel or restaurant which welcome dogs then just choose somewhere else.

There are still plenty of places who don’t encourage dogs in.

Have you heard of these Cat Cafes? Not many of them around, but you pay to go in there and surround yourself with someone else’s cats. I’d hate that, so I wouldn’t go there, but plenty do, and that’s great for them!

My dog barks too much so she stays at home when we eat out, but I’ve been in dog cafes and they’ve been full of good dogs and happy owners.

Not so sure I think it’s a great idea to allow them just to wander about? Keep them under control and on a lead surely is more sensible?

What did the dog choose?

ā€œNot so sure I think it’s a great idea to allow them just to wander about? Keep them under control and on a lead surely is more sensible?ā€

Oh they are on leads but leads can be long and in some cases the dog wanders about to the length of the lead with both the dog and lead a tripping hazard.
Am not opposed to ā€˜dog cafes’ in fact I wish there were more ā€˜dog cafes’ instead of ordinary cafes that let in dogs, then people could make an informed choice rather than choosing a nice cafe to go for lunch in only to discover it also has lots of dogs in it.
Is not always apparent.

BlueBelle Fri 20-Mar-26 19:02:59

Cossy this is not a thread about dogs eating in cafes/restaurants it’s about dogs having their own printed menus of dishes (not just dog food) and at a price too
I like dogs but this is ridiculous, dogs can’t read or tap their card to pay !!!
You are wrong, when you say there are plenty of other places to go to in my area there are very few eating places that are not dog friendly I can only think of one, well two, if you count Wetherspoon's, and as I went with friends today I didn’t choose the venue.
(I like cats but I can think of nothing worse than a cafe with cats wandering around, we only had one here and it has closed down but this was not what the thread was about)

I think this is a great idea. Top marks to the lady who thought of it too. Local businesses are to be applauded at this time.
Also…. The dog cafes with the menus are only probably trying to increase their trade. Times are hard enough for cafes at the moment. I would rather see a dog in a cafe, than not have the cafe close because it’s not profitable.

Iam64 Fri 20-Mar-26 21:24:24

Dogs are Big Money in so many ways. Our local cafes and pubs all dog friendly, all do doggy sausages and treat bags
I’m such a judgemental these days, my poor dogs don’t go to the pub. I don’t know who they’d be mixing with

kittylester Fri 20-Mar-26 21:30:39

We have a dog cafe near us that will host a party for your dog's birthday.

MartavTaurus Fri 20-Mar-26 22:33:04

Our local pub has an Ć  la carte menu for humans, and an Ć  la bark menu for dogs!

I agree with other posters that businesses are having to attract customers any which way they can, and dont forget, dog owners go out walking EVERY day of the year, and often stop for coffee or for lunch.

I bought a dog ice cream for my dog from the menu in a dog-friendly cafe, but sadly he didn't like it.

67notout Fri 20-Mar-26 22:38:51

I visit a lovely remote cafe that’s usually full of dogs and their companions- I don’t have a dog but my goodness when the dogs are loose and their leads are clanging on the ground it sounds like Jacob Marley visiting Scrooge šŸ˜‚

Just out of interest, out of 19 threads in Last Hour, there are 4 (at least) about dogs.

Have we lost any sense of proportion where our supposed 'Best Friends' are concerned?
