Good morning all from a dull and chilly Stockport, the CH has gone back on.
Grandmabatty you reminded me so much of my H , he always had to lie down after spending money the more spent, the longer the lie down.
We had a wonderful hardware shop a few treas ago, Williamson’s , I used to love to go in when the smell,of paraffin hit you.
It was a sad day when it closed, I don’t think anyone would take it on as the knowledge of the owner just couldn’t be passed on.
He could just walk to a shelf or a drawer and pick up anything you asked for.

Stilllearning 😂.
I have been to the garden centre and bought a stiff brush for outdoors. I also bought shears but was bamboozled at the range; loppers, secateurs, hedge shears etc. I basically shut my eyes and picked. I also bought 2 prepared pots and put one at the front door and one at the back door. Mission accomplished, I'm back home resting. It's hard work spending money

Good morning everyone from overcast Lancashire.

The weather has turned wintery today, so padded jackets were needed for our walk around the Dock. We saw some beautiful spring flowers, cowslips are one of my favourites.

As always, thinking of those with troubles in their lives.

Wishing you a good day whatever you’re doing.

Georgesgran Sun 22-Mar-26 10:19:06

There’s a shop on Gosforth High Street called Thorpes Annapops. It sells all those bits and bobs we all need. We always say, ‘well, if Thorpes don’t sell it, it hasn’t been invented yet.’

Good morning from my bit of South Lanarkshire, I enjoy reading about all the gardening plans, we’re still well behind that here but it has been cheerfully sunny for a few days so that’s been good.

Well done to your DGD Ashcombe you must have felt so proud and happy for her.

That’s such good news for your DGS too, Marzipan, it’s really great when they are passionate about what they want to do.
He’ll be fine if he has his dad’s talent, is it time for anither look at that great photo?😊

Grandmabatty, my rubbish eyesight gave me a moment of cheer when I misread your post. I didn’t see the full stop after the word ‘think’ and thought you were saying that you ‘thought’ you had made a curry yesterday!
I had a brief moment of ‘Oh thank goodness, it’s not just me’ 😂😂!

Good wishes to all, special thoughts to FGT and others who need them.

So many proud moments in GM today and lots of lovely positive news. Also I just want to say what a talented bunch you all are with your crafting, cooking, gardening and so much more 🌼
FGT💐

Good morning from a dull northwest coast.
I had trouble finding the church bazaar yesterday. The church in a part of town I don’t know very well and hidden behind houses. Not much on display, but I picked up gift soap and chutney.

Another sunny day, so I carried on sorting my downstairs art room, which opens on to the garden and sat there between times reading Elizabeth Taylor’s short stories (not the film star!).

Tonight to my friend’s open mic, but I’m not singing.
Congratulations Ash and thoughts to all🌺

grandMattie Sun 22-Mar-26 09:18:48

You must be unbelievably proud, ash. Well done to your DGD

WhiteSwan63 Sun 22-Mar-26 09:11:44

Good morning from a bright morning on the east coast.

I need to walk to our friends to pick up my car. We drove to theirs last night but got an uber home after having an extra glass of wine. Our friend has a trip and fell in the kitchen last night, he had a stroke 18 months ago. Luckily DH could pick him up, I don’t know what would have happened if we hadn’t been there as our friend couldn’t have lifted him. We met their newly adopted dog a huge 3 year old german shepherd.

My DH wants to take DS to look at used cars today. DS needs another car and there are a few in his price range at Right Car. He is either working or with DGS so doesn’t get a lot of time for anything else so he may have to drop him here while he goes with DH.
Other than that we haven’t too much on today. DH is cooking me a steak for dinner tonight.

It’s our DSs 41st birthday today. Life flies by. He’s working today all day but we will hopefully fit in a video chat. We were there in China with him last year on his 40th. Looking forward to seeing him at the end of April.

Hoping today is a day full of family visits, birthday celebrations and moments of joy. 🌼
Thoughts to those feeling poorly or sad💐
Enjoy these lovely spring days. X

Good morning all. I’m having five minutes before starting the breakfast. Dh still asleep derby day for us always eventful but hubby going to sons to watch it for which I’m grateful. It’s forty years today since I lost my brother he was only 37. I still think about him and feel the loss. I’m going to bake and do some pottering about in the garden as the weather seems fine. It’s still cold but spring is definitely just around the corner. I love reading all your posts. Good day to everyone.

glammagran Sun 22-Mar-26 08:52:55

Good morning from a sunny (again) Wiltshire. It’s been a lovely few days here.

Spent time in the garden yesterday doing general tidying up. DH cut the grass for the first time this year. It had got very long.

Watched the Peaky Blinders film on Netflix. We both thought it was terrible, othing like the TV series.

I’m so sorry to read about your GS Ginny. How horrible for him. I think he may be about the same age as my youngest GS who will be 5 at the end of April. I seem to remember 3 of us on Gransnet had new GCs at around the same time.

Congratulations to you GD Ash and to your GS Marzipan.

Hope everyone has a good day and all who are under the weather feel better.

Good morning from Durham.

Yesterday was such a glorious day we took a trip out to Stanhope. We had a wander along the high street looking for a new watering can and came across one of those very old, traditional hardware shops that are cluttered beyond belief both inside and outside. It was a joy to rummage through.

Outside on the main street the knitting bombers had been at work and I couldn't resist photographing this mini Stanhope scene.

A walk along the river path completed our trip bringing back memories of times past with caravan holidays in the dales with young children.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Georgesgran Sun 22-Mar-26 08:38:00

Good morning from a grey, but bright Durham, although I don’t think it’ll turn out as warm and sunny as yesterday.
I was ‘miffed’ that DD1 didn’t visit, as I thought it was a definite, but she apparently she didn’t, so now its made the card/gift she was to collect, belated. At least I spent most of the day in the garden - the bin is full already. I’ve a few bats here - I call them all Norah (get it?).

DD2 and DGS2 are definitely coming today. She plans to meet a friend for a quick coffee, so I’ll babysit. SinL will be at the Derby match - hope we win this time - so much passion over a ball!

Thinking of our unwell and those grieving GNs as the days lengthen.

Best wishes to all. X

Gingster Sun 22-Mar-26 08:29:44

Oh my goodness Liberty. What a fright!!!! 🦅. Can you get some sort of cover strong enough to repel these feisty birds?

I imagine they weren’t easy to evacuate 😬

BlueSapphire Sun 22-Mar-26 08:26:59

FGT2, well done for starting on the sad task of clearing out; but so many happy memories as you go through things, so it takes a long time.
In fact, after 8 years I still have some of DH's favourite things which I cannot bring myself to part with - they give me comfort.
Thinking of you.

Gingster Sun 22-Mar-26 08:25:23

Good morning and lots of lovely, positive posts today. 🙏.
Thoughts to those still in pain, but managing to ‘live their lives’.

Yesterdays ‘posh’ afternoon tea with Paddington was lovely. DGD was the only child there but loved every minute. Very expensive though! Worth the money? . Once in a while doesn’t hurt!

Today we’re going with ds1 and DIL to a nursery to get some plants and a couple of shrubs for where he’s taken down an old forsythia.

This afternoon I’ll visit my big brother who had an op yesterday. Hopefully he’ll start recovering now after a week of excruciating pain. He’s the loveliest man, who everybody is so fond of .

I hope you all have a carefree day .🌱

Liberty Sun 22-Mar-26 08:25:00

Good morning from a slightly misty morning where the sun is forecast to appear shortly. I’m enjoying my 1st cup of tea, always the best, whilst listening to a traditional church service on the radio.

I haven’t yet read the posts but hope all is well. As Mother Julian of Norwich said… “All shall be well and all manner of
things shall be well”. I fervently hope so.

DH usually cooks dinner on Sunday so he will roast a chicken for 7pm. We’ll have a long walk with the little dog locally before getting the house back in some sort of order after a visit by 2 rooks down the chimney yesterday in the dining room. They were unhurt but managed to make quite a mess and knocked over and broke a couple of wineglasses and some china.

The rookery is bigger than ever and the birds are still very busy nest building. There must be 20+ nests in 4 very tall trees.

I type slowly and whilst writing this, the sun has appeared.

Marydoll Sun 22-Mar-26 08:23:39

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 7°C.

Another bad night has left me exhausted, I won't be doing much today.. Everything always seems much worse during the night.
I have a dress to alter, it needs six inches off it, I am shrinking!

If I feel well enough, I plan to do potter about the garden, it is so untidy.

Marzipan, congratulations to your grandson on finding a course, hecwill enjoy.

I wish you all a pleasant Sunday.

Susan56 Sun 22-Mar-26 08:20:22

Good morning from Shropshire where the sun is already shining.

Yesterday I came down with a horrible cold courtesy of DD1 and the children.I have been lucky enough not to have a cold for a while and had forgotten how rubbish they make you feel.🙄🤧

Today we have free electricity from 8-8 so it will be a day of laundry, charging, lawn mowing and roast dinner.

Well done to your DGD Ash, such an achievement 👏🏻🌟

Hope Marydoll is managing a more restful weekend 🙏🏻

Thinking of all struggling and wishing everyone the best day possible 🌻🦩

BlueSapphire Sun 22-Mar-26 08:17:41

Good morning everyone from a very misty Northampton morning, and Alexa tells me it's 0°C outside. I had planned to cut the grass today, but I will have to wait and see if it dries.

Got three loads of holiday washing dried outside yesterday, after an airing indoors I now have to put it all away.

That was followed by a nail-biting rugby match where we held on by the skin of our teeth to win by one point. But it was lovely to sit and watch in glorious sunshine while enjoying winewine!

In the evening it was out again to DD's concert where we enjoyed an excellent programme
of film music, superbly played by her award-winning band. And DS surprised me with a lovely late bunch of roses for Mothering Sunday, as I was away on holiday last Sunday!

Wishing all a pleasant Sunday.

Ashcombe Sun 22-Mar-26 08:17:06

Thank you, Grandmabatty.

Yes, DGD would love to make dancing her life's work but is realistic about the reality. I think she is interested in some kind of performing arts course at college as she knows of other older girls pursuing that. At present she is doing well in school but is only 13 so needs to continue her general education for a few years.

Watch this space!

monk08 Sun 22-Mar-26 08:11:41

Good morning all from a sunny Black country.
Yesterday's trip to the post office was time wasted as it appears they no longer open on Saturday's, so it will be another trip into town tomorrow.
Today will spend time in the garden there is always something that can be done.
Have the best day possible everyone ☀️

Jaxjacky Sun 22-Mar-26 08:04:23

Morning from a sunny S Hants, first cuppa going down well.
Yesterday I pootled on the patio, can’t get to my greenhouse yet, so I’m envious of all the seed showings. I’ve accepted that this year my flower and veg production will be limited.
Very frustrating Roses awaiting results which may lead to treatments.
I too hope the brooks are enjoying their break.
I’m glad I did some planting in the autumn and will enjoy that while it lasts.

Grandmabatty Sun 22-Mar-26 07:59:26

Oh well done to your dgd Ashcombe! Does she want a career in dance?
