Good morning from a calm, dark Cornwall where I've just been out on my patio to look at the stars. A pair of gulls flew silently right above me and the underside of their wings caught the light from somewhere although it was still pitch black. Magical. I went to bed too early so have been awake for a while, making gingerbread cookies which I'm now eating with a cup of tea, and reading Why The Whales Came by Michael Morpurgo.

Today I'm going to see my arty daughter-in-law. She's made chicken stew for our lunch. We'll have a good chinwag and no doubt I'll see her new tattoos though as she's petite she must be running out of space for any more hy now. 😆 My 16-year-old grandson has been offered a place on a Digital Art, Graphic Design and Animation UAL Level 3 Diploma course. Well, there's a mouthful for you. Anyway, his mum will give me all the details I'm sure. It sounds perfect for him. Later I'll turn off my freezer and enjoy the unwelcome task of clearing it, with towels and newspaper galore.

Good morning from s somerset, dry and some sun today

Yesterday was more like it, I spent five hours on the allotment in two tranches. Did a lot of heavy lifting and had some good chats with people. I took heavy tools back there, after winter and that leaves me free to cycle. There is a long waiting list now, I am not surprised

Today I intend cycling to the allotment, I have a couple of hours of work left and I think I can leave home at 9, its too cold until then.

I love these spring days

grandMattie Sun 22-Mar-26 05:45:06

Good morning from a clear, and noisy Bristol. The birds are sounding so cheerful.
After the coffee at church, I had a quiet day. I took home more than the usual number of tea towels, one of which must have had a load of petrol on it as the whole wash smelled. It was great that the outside drying removed it completely.
Today will be quiet again, after the church service. I might sit in the sun, but the breeze makes it too cold after about 10 minutes.
marzipan, I’m so pleased for you DGS, it’s so great when they find something they really want to do.
fgt I’ll be thinking of you today.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

Thanks gM. It's young to be choosing such a specific course but his dad did exactly the same with a photography course and made it his career so I've no doubt it's the right one for him.

Good morning, there’s frost on my Shed roof, the sky is clear and the air crisp this morning.
I enjoyed doing more embroidery yesterday, sod the housework! I do need to get the housework done today, or it will start to look messy. I did a bit of faffing in the garden first thing yesterday, it was somewhat chilly but I had some long rose stems to tie down. I need to get more heavyweight wire to secure the whole climbing rose to the fence.
Little else going on here, I will take tiddler out shortly, I enjoy our early dog walk although I am getting slower and more breathless, roll on getting some results from the hospital.
Have a lovely day 🌹

Grammaretto Sun 22-Mar-26 06:33:33

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I think it's cooler today but yesterdays sunshine was an absolute tonic.

I sat in the garden soaking it in and listening to the birds whilst knitting and drinking coffee. The merlin app says it could hear a song thrush and a nuthatch neither of which I spotted. 😟

I sowed up several seed trays with veg and flowers, so my greenhouse is a busy place again.
After food shopping I cooked a Spanish omelette and made salad ready for the evening return of my friend who's staying while she visits her disabled adult son who lives in care in Edinburgh. I also had a lovely visit from the Australian helper who was here before Christmas.

My DGD is recovering well from her appendectomy I was glad to hear.

Today will be finishing the pottery which was made on Friday and maybe a film tonight.

I really hope Marydoll's RA settles down and she can enjoy life again.

Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Bellasnana Sun 22-Mar-26 06:38:38

Good morning from Malta where it’s dry and bright at present but showers are forecast with a high of 37°C.

It’s DD3’s 37th birthday today so we are all going out for lunch. Her in-laws are very kindly giving me a lift so I won’t have to drive.

Oh grandMattie so you are still the only one washing those tea towels. Someone else ought to take a turn at doing them.

Lovely that your DGS has decided what he wants to do at such a young age, Marzipan.

karma you amaze me. Heavy lifting is not something many of us could manage!

Had a FaceTime chat with DD2 and DGD yesterday. They were at a tulip farm and it looked absolutely beautiful even though most of the tulips were past their best. They found enough to take a bunch home. There were animals there as well, all looking very healthy and well cared for.

I hope you all have a good day, thoughts with those who are finding life hard for whatever reason. 💐

ginny Sun 22-Mar-26 06:49:54

Good morning from N. Bucks. I’ve not looked outside yet but hoping for a warmish day.
Thanks for the sympathy for my DGS yesterday. His top lip is very swollen and he is eating very gingerly but is fine in himself. He says his mouth looks like a duck beak.
Hopefully we will do some garden jobs this morning and then see how we feel this afternoon.
Hoping our poorly friends see some improvement and others with troubles find relief. Wishing all a pleasant day.

baubles Sun 22-Mar-26 06:54:24

Good morning from dry and cool South Lanarkshire.

The highlight of yesterday was my dog walk at dusk. I was enjoying the sound of the birds in the trees when I realised that the creatures swooping around were not birds but bats. I hadn’t seen them at this spot before then and spent a while just standing watching them.

I did some window cleaning, they’re a bit better than they were but I definitely didn’t inherit my mother’s ability to get them sparkling.

It’s our monthly Sunday cafe in the hall after Mass this morning so I’ll be helping with that. I mostly clear up as I find the heavy teapots a bit tricky.

Hoping everyone has the best day possible.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 22-Mar-26 06:55:58

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I think today might be rather quiet, although I might pop to a nearby Hobbycraft shop. For my monthly craft group we are each doing a collage for our next meeting. I have decided to use a mixture of cloth, paint and wallpaper, but I don’t have anything suitable for a backing. I think this project will take more than one meeting. Oh, I have some WI admin as well. Everyone has had to complete a new application form and I have to update the data base.

Yesterday’s Memorial for one of the WIs members went well. The church was full and the tea afterwards was lovely.

Have a good day . I’m thinking of those of you with difficulties.

madeleine45 Sun 22-Mar-26 06:57:07

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a clear but grey, and very cold day in North Yorkshire. A very slight breeze, which I hope stays or improves as have a lot of washing I want to get out on the line, and if possible finally get the cashmere jumpers washed as they got left yet again.

Yesterday was a very mixed day. I was really creaking around in the morning and it took me ages to get going. I went down to the market on the yellow peril and got various bits and pieces and the Yorkshire Post, and came home and started on the usual chores and boring jobs , which actually when I am feeling uptight and edgy are good as a calming everyday thing, to see at least some improvement when I look round.

I could not find the wretched bp machine, and can only think that the cleaners have moved it somewhere which seemed sensible at the time, but they forgot to tell me! So started looking for it, but to no avail so far whilst various other bits and pieces surfaced so not a total waste of time. It was brighter in patches with some bits of mist coming and going.

I got in touch with my friend to see if she felt up to going to the book sale with me, which she wanted to do, and so it was a quick lunch and got there early so that I could get a space in the car park with not too far to walk, and whilst I have never wanted to be up with the lark to queue for sales day for clothes etc, books are another matter. Even more so with second hand books. I love the thought that something I have been hunting for for years may turn up, or the missing book from a long ago series you cant find, so there we were ready with bags and cash to go in the minute the doors opened.

My back was so painful that I had only looked through 2 or 3 boxes when I knew that I couldnt stand all the way round so had to have a chair which I moved sideways with me as I got to each new box to look at. Fortunately there were very few other people there at that time, which I was surprised at, so that I was not causing an obstruction and was able to slowly go round the whole room, filling my bags as I went. Some with authors I knew, some much better editions than the one I had got at home to do a swap with, and other exciting and interesting unknown books. There was only a little sadness as I reflected that I have been going to these book sales over the years, and from originally being able not only to go round each box of books even managed to go round a second time to check I hadnt missed anything, and here I am now struggling to get round with a chair in tow!!

Never mind, it was a joy and a calming influence after the previous day. Despite the chill in the air and the bits of mist the countryside looked lovely with a lot of blossom and some beautiful magnolias out and we took a little detour to drive past and through a village that has a lovely aspect and many beautiful gardens , now full of daffodils and other spring flowers just starting. We called for coffee at Nero's on the way back where I was glad to let my friend queue up and order, as once I had got into the car, my back really had seized up and I was in quite a lot of pain even moving about slowly. Didnt matter , when it comes to books it is all worth while and I shall enjoy sorting through my new acquisitions. So it ended up a much better afternoon and I didnt attempt to do very much last night , just made a meal and listened to some music.

But then had a phone call from my son. I hoped it was going to be to say he had got an interview for the job he is looking at, but not good news. He had had an accident and his left hand is quite bad. The hospital is not sure if it is broken or not, as it is very badly swollen and they have not plastered it but strapped it all up as he has to go back when it is less swollen and have something looked at as apparently whatever it is ,doesnt show up on an x ray. Fortunately it is his left hand, not the right, but that means he cant drive at the moment so will have to see how things work out. and may have to drive over to see them, which would mean staying somewhere overnight as these days I dont think I could do the round trip all in one go.

So today my plan to spend a day sorting things here is going to be encouraged by the chilly day not tempting me outside and I am now calm enough to plan an organised search, which means lugging the steps out so that I can investigate the high cupboards to see if I can find the elusive blood pressure measure. I have organised 3 different bags at the ready. One for things in the wrong place to collect up and put back where they belong, one for things for the recycling bag and the other for rubbish, so my hopes are that however much I manage to do today will at least be improved by my efforts, and I shall listen to my programmes and when I need a break I shall read a bit of the Yorkshire Post. I have lamb curry arranged for dinner and so what energy I have can be directed to the great sort out. Fingers crossed I shall find the machine before I run out of energy! Well that is the plan anyway, but of course something else may alter the day, we shall see.

Hope your domestic day goes as planned Mick. Good news for your grandson Marzipan , always great when you can follow your dreams. There are always difficult times in any course, but if you genuinely love the subject it really helps you to get through those times. Karmalady hope you have a safe trip to the allotments and enjoy the open air.

It sounds a positive day for everyone at the moment, so hope your plans all come off and you enjoy a satisfying and pleasant day. I shall look forward to reading more posts later and catching up with news and views , but for now it is time for coffee and Bach before 7 to start my days activities

Good morning from a sunny NE where it is 5°.
Yesterday was a very quiet day, no visitors so I went into the garden and sprayed the weeds.
Another quiet day, maybe I will tidy my wardrobe as I seem to have mislaid two pairs of boots.
Think I will search in the freezer for tonight's dinner, prawn dim sum were disappointing last night despite steaming as directed.
Have a good day.

Good morning from Sheffield

Well the electric bikes are charged, tyers pumped up. We are off on our first bike ride of the year.
I did very little last year due to my awful sciatica. Although it’s a lot better, I’m unsure how I will be on a bike. I’m hoping that it will be ok.
We will go from our house to a local water and wildlife park. We can go through lanes so it will all be off road.
I find it stressful riding on the road. Because I live in an area of industry and mining, long gone now, there are many disused railway tracks that have been reclaimed and made into cycle and walking paths.
I can remember how it used to be when the coke ovens and mines were working. You could smell the sulphur in the air from the coke ovens. My father in law was chief engineer there and when he came home my mother in law made him undress in the outside toilet before he came in the house because of the muck and smell.
Now the area is a beautiful haven of green, lakes, woods and walks. It’s unrecognisable.
If you remember the miners strike , I live close to Orgreave where the awful riot was.

The weather is good , I also don’t cycle in cold weather.
The conditions have to be just right!

Chicken curry for tea

Take care everyone flowers

Good morning Mick and all from Morecambe Bay where it was 2 degrees a short while ago, misty in the distance but with a beautiful pink arc right across a pale blue sky.
Yesterday was spent working on our hedge and painting the pergola but today we are taking Crazy dog on a breed walk. He loves meeting and playing with other dogs but wants to lead the pack so not a lot of playing. Will continue working on the hedge this afternoon. Take care everyone.

Morning Mick, morning All from a clear, chilly corner of Somerset.

A fine morning forecast with some rain appearing later.

Eventually had all sorted ready for our friends to arrive today. It’s ages since we had anyone to stay, I just may have forgotten how to do it. I know we’ll both be exhausted by Thursday when they leave, it will be worth it though.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Grandmabatty Sun 22-Mar-26 07:17:49

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and dry. It feels much colder though. Madeleine i have a blood pressure monitor which I'm supposed to use but don't. I really should. I hope you find yours. baublesmy last house had bats swooping round from the trees nearby. I just loved watching them. Sadly, none near me now. Bellasnana a happy birthday to your dd. I hope brook is enjoying her weekend away.
Yesterday was a quiet day but productive. The weather was so sunny and warm, it cheered everyone up. I was at aldi early and hung out a washing on my return. Then stripped the bed and started housework. I got most of it done when dd and dgs2 popped in. Dgs2 wanted to see inside the new car and enjoyed 'driving' it. Dd put out my bottle box which dsil had forgotten to do.
After they left, I continued housework and generally pottering about. I remade the bed, lay down and fell asleep for an hour!
Today I intend to go to the garden centre. I need a new brush and shears and I'll treat myself to a pot of spring flowers for outside the kitchen door. If it stays dry, I will begin to tidy up outside too. It's all a bit dishevelled. I want to make an apple sponge or apple crumble, I havent decided which. And a chicken curry, I think. I didn't make one yesterday. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a brightening S E Essex it’s 4°with a high of 14° forecast.

We will pop to DS4’s late morning to drop of Easter gifts and $’s for the GC. They are off to Florida in a couple of days and are so excited. My GS is asking to measured each day to check he hasn’t shrunk and still tall enough for the rides (he is 6)

Roast beef for dinner.

Wishing you all a peaceful,day 🙋‍♀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 22-Mar-26 07:19:47

Good morning all from a misty south Manchester where 11°C will be our high for the day. I have L’il Miss coming over while the Boy Wonder plays for his other (stronger) team. When asked if she’d like to come to play again she said “Please, grandma, if I’m not too much for you”. How can you ever be too much for anyone darling girl?

This afternoon I plan to pootle and faff sorting out some drawers and culling things. Himself said not to keep a shrine to him. I shan’t, but the only way I can be brave enough to throw things out is by throwing out some of my stuff too. x

Redcar Sun 22-Mar-26 07:21:41

Good morning everyone from a bright but cold mid Essex. Yesterday was another lovely sunny day and I ventured into the garden, hoping to start cutting the edges of the lawn. It seems that both DDs have borrowed my edging tools! One may be returned today. It’s not a task that I enjoy and will take me ages to do properly but hopefully the result will be worth the effort. I did dig out some more weeds so am filling the garden waste bin again.

I have a load of washing on and hope to get it dry outside, there’s very little wind, so it may not dry well, but we’ll see.

marzipan good that your DGS knows what he wants to do and has been able find a course that will enable him to do it!

I hope that all those with health issues feel a little better today.

Have a pleasant Sunday everyone.

luluaugust Sun 22-Mar-26 07:30:19

Good morning from a chilly W Kent. Quiet day today, usual call to DB and lunch to cook. DH has a very bad back so he will just want to potter about. I think we overdid it yesterday visiting Sainsburys and the garden centre.
Best wishes

Gagagran Sun 22-Mar-26 07:38:19

Good Morning all from a sunny but cold central south coast. 0 degrees on my garden thermometer at 6.30 but will soon rise in the sunshine. Isn't it just lovely to have the sun back after such a damp and gloomy winter?

Laundry this morning with lots of DH's cycling gear in the first load. He had a lovely ride along the refurbished promenade at Southsea and into Old Portsmouth yesterday and said the Solent looked magnificent with the blue sky and blue sea sparkling in the sunshine. It is lovely there and always something to see with the ferries to-ing and fro-ing and sometimes even a Naval vessel. We saw HMS Illustrious leave there on her last voyage, with thousands watching her sad departure.

Thinking of all our strugglers and hoping the day brings some ease and comfort for us all.

Greyduster Sun 22-Mar-26 07:39:37

Good Morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sun is already doing its stuff. I slept through until seven this morning and feel rather groggy. I spent most of yesterday afternoon working on my front rockery bed, digging out weeds and cutting back some plants that had forgotten their station in life and were encroaching on their neighbours! All is now peace and order. However spending all that time on my knees was very wearing. My legs hurt this morning!

I have DD and SiL coming for a late Sunday lunch today so I will tidy round and then make a plum and apple crumble for dessert. The plums are some that came off my tree last year - I hope for the same bounty this year.

Melanie enjoy your bike ride to the country park. We used to walk there and back along the TPT from our house here but I can’t do the distances now. It is, however, only a five minute car journey so I can still enjoy it. I love the way that all the old mining and industrial areas have been transformed into havens for wildlife.

Have the best day you can folks.

grandMattie Sun 22-Mar-26 07:41:55

baubles, I was born and brought up in the tropics and we had fruit bats which are bigger than gulls…. So it was a great surprise to see the tiny, sparrow size pipistrelles here! I find them fascinating and lovely.
bellas, the hall is mostly rented to on-church organisations; they don’t care as long as there are clean tea towels. When I fist came, they were left in a box, damp and smelly. I can’t stand it. I don’t think many people realise that I’m the tea towels fairy!

dragonfly46 Sun 22-Mar-26 07:43:47

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire. I went for a walk yesterday and wasn’t in too much pain when I got back which bodes well for when I have the granddog at Easter.
I will try playing Scrabble with friends this afternoon although I still cannot sit in one position for long.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.
