good evening from sunny Australia. daytime 35c and the sun blasting down; a delight. Swam 1.5k and did my laundry. Hung it outside, all dry one hour later as slight breeze.
Working in someone else's home

Good morning Mick and all from a blustery Morecambe Bay. I’m hoping for a calmer day weatherwise as yesterday was horrendous. We took Crazy dog for his usual walk through the woods, then he stayed curled up all day, realising how awful the weather was. During his last walk there was a sudden flash of lightning followed immediately by the loudest clap of thunder. Crazy dog sensed something was coming as seconds before he shot under the hedge and laid down.
Shortly we will drive to the woods if the roads are passable. Hopefully if it dries up the onslaught of clearing brambles from our hedge will continue. The next job is to plant 5 bare root roses. Take care everyone.
I didn't post this morning - had the DD's puppy to 'puppy sit'. As it was dry and very windy, I washed the big bath sheets, towels and terry towelling robe, after my shower. Everything was blowing nicely, then there was a little rain in the air, when suddenly my whirligig clothes line completely collapsed in the wind - which has reached gale force!! Luckily everything was OK and had dried quite a lot so hadn't got dirty!!
Good afternoon all.
Just popping in to say *ginster’ when I have to put compost in the car by myself I put a tarpaulin on the front passenger seat and strap the bags in there. I find it much easier than hauling them up and over the boot sill.
Hope you are all having as good a day as you can.
That's incredibly frustrating Ash, especially as none of it is your fault. I hope it gets sorted soon
Sorry your trip to France has had to be cancelled Ash through no fault of your own. Let's hope the car issues get sorted soon.
Greetings from a wet Co Armagh,
I got soaked walking round to our club committee meeting and again walking home
We were settling the program for after Easter til we close in the summer , someone suggested we keep going but most people blanched at the thought , I do miss it , but it’s a lot of work keeping it interesting so a summer break it is
Thought with the poorly
Beechnut I have thought about that. I have had a lot of stress over the years and do suffer with anxiety and I am a worrier. Our best friend’s husband is in his final weeks of life so maybe I have that first and foremost on my mind. I’m thinking how we can best support them both. This is so new for me that they are so close together Thankyou xx
WhiteSwan I sometimes get an aura when I’m feeling stressed or anxious about something. Could that be causing yours.
Good morning from a sunny NE but the forecast is for rain from 9am.
It was a very windy night and I had to wear earplugs to get some sleep.
Sister and BIL are visiting this afternoon and we will go shopping, last time for a while as they are off on holiday for a few weeks to visit their four DGSs.
DD rang me at the weekend and told me she had found out about the incident in her street the other week.
Turns out it was a well respected neighbour, an athlete who represented Belgium, who suffered a drug induced psychotic episode. He smashed up his house and broke into a neighbours. DD says his athletic days are over as he has broken too many bones while jumping from a balcony.
Armed response were present because he was shouting words that suggested it may have been a terrorist incident.
So pleased it is sorted and DD will be travelling to the UK for the Easter weekend.
Have a good day.
Morning from South Lanarkshire, an unusually disturbed night for me so I’m back in bed for a bit of a snooze but I wanted to thank you Marzipan for posting those delightful pictures again. I didn’t get a chance to look at Gransnet till I came to bed last night and the sight of them just lifted my heart, I chuckled out loud, it was lovely.
Best wishes to everyone for a good day
Good morning from the east coast it’s grey and chilly this morning.
We have just taken DDs car in to the garage for a service so I followed DH there.
He’s meeting DS at a garage today to look at a car. DH spends weeks looking at cars before buying one but DS is happy as long as it’s a reliable car and is happy for DH to look and pick one for him. DS just doesn’t have the time which DH sometimes doesn’t understand. The lad is having to dash out in his lunch hour to meet his dad. DGSs mother leaves everything to DS and isn’t very helpful with GS so spare time is very restricted.
Last night while looking after the DGDs I started with the migraine aura again. I had to dash to my car for paracetamol as I didn’t have time to start raking through DDs drawers. It went quickly but I wish I knew what’s going on. I’m with my mum all afternoon so tablets will be attached to me incase it happens today. It’s worrying me.
DH is out with his friend tonight so I might have a Chinese at the one that has a gluten free menu. Stepping on the scales this morning I am almost two stone above my ideal weight not good at all so I maybe should have something healthier I’ll see how I feel later.
Hoping today brings a moment of joy🌼
Thoughts to those struggling with sadness and stress🌸
A very late good morning Mick and all GN's from a still, quite bright so far but cold North Yorkshire . I had a rotten night but then finally got off to sleep and overslept, so now have been catching up with basics and breakfast, Grateful to have had a better sleep and feel a bit more rested for once, but it has rather upset my plans for the day and need to catch up.
Yesterday it was very cold, and it helped me to resolve to make an effort at sorting out my bedroom, whilst still searching for the bp machine. So I worked quite hard and did do well , but was cautious climbing up steps to look in top cupboards. The steps are very light fortunately but the treads are quite narrow so have to take care. I got to a point when my back was getting quite painful and had to stop for a while.
I had one or two things to do in town and thought I would do that , giving myself a break from climbing at the same time. It was very cold so went in the car, and it was looking so dirty , decided that I would take it to be cleaned on the outside. I have usually cleaned the car myself, but of course that has got harder to do these days. However I have managed by waiting for a day I feel ok and it is not too cold, but it really was filthy and I thought being monday it would be quieter at the car wash place. So got my bits and went there. Having never done it before I had to watch someone in front of me to see how you went about it.
The people there obviously knew what they were doing and it was quite interesting to see them working seamlessly , without needing to tell each other, but one person would do one thing and then move elsewhere and another person would appear and carry on with polishing or whatever. Anyway they really did a good job and I was pleased with the gleam they managed to give the car , which I never seem to do. My back had rather seized up from the mornings climbing about and I decided to go for coffee on the way back
I was very carefully just sitting down in Nero's when a man approached me and said hallo. I looked at him and realized that he was the organist who had played for us with swale singers at festivals and in concerts. Hadnt seen him in years and so that was very nice and he joined me. He was also a music teacher but had retired and actually lives not far from me, so it has been amazing that our paths had not crossed before. As we chatted my next door neighbour from my previous house walked in and she also joined us. So what was meant to be a quick coffee carried on for quite some time. It was really lovely to talk of music and gardens etc etc, and it cheered me , from my feeling a bit down about getting the car done by someone else. I had changed my phone and no longer have the landline so she had tried to contact me but not had any luck so it all went very well.
I came home refreshed and set about making curry for the evening meal and then back to a bit more sorting and yes at last found the wretched bp machine! It was so long since I had used it I had to reread all the instructions and still dont feel totally up to scratch with it, so will have to check it again before I use it today.
My late start was not planned as I have a visitor coming this afternoon, so I think I shall just hide the very full ironing basket away, and finish off the bedroom tidying and then I have some beef stew to make, and lovely rhubarb to cook, which should smell much better than yesterday, when the smell of smoked fish seemed to linger around! A quick check round the lounge so that they can sit down without being surrounded by my books and paraphanalia. I need to get going on my catch up morning so will come back and read all the posts a bit later.
Hope everyone has a good day today
Thanks monk what a good idea.
Jaxjacky both DH and myself are signed up to all the local establishments and they send discount vouchers for various occasions throughout the year, the latest is my half birthday🤔
Good morning all
I picked up 3 bags of compost yesterday from Range, so one around to help lift it , so struggled through the carpark with a very unwieldy trolly and back to the car, when I wrestled it into the car. I do miss Dh doing this sort of thing. Oh well! It’s amazing what you can do when you have to.
This morning I’ll pot up the plants into the tubs at the front.
Music club was lovely with lots of tunes/songs from the musicals, with stories behind them. The lady who runs it with her Dh is hilarious (think Dawn French) and makes for a really enjoyable afternoon. Her Dh sorts out the music and just smiles at her many antics. She was a Probation Officer before retiring.
This afternoon I have Bridge Club. Last week I came top with my partner . This week ? Who knows? 🤞. It’s someone’s birthday so there will be cake.(there usually is anyway.Birthday or not).,
Annoying about your car Ash.
Glad your dh helped prune the rose Rosesandlilac.
Good luck at the dentist GG. Another dental phobic here 😬.
Have a good day, one and all. 🌺
Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s raining and looks a bit nippy out. No matter as I’m off out after lunch ~ meeting friends from the hospital up the road where we all used to work. Naturally I haven’t seen any of them since Himself died a month ago.
However the couple of hours in a bar should be enjoyable and I’m looking forward to it. One of the general surgeons (long retired) is giving a talk there. He has apparently written a book about his years at our hospital and the trials and tribulations of working in the first NHS hospital in England (opened back in the day by Nye Bevan no less).
Good morning all, 8°C here in Glasgow. Unfortunately, we are promised rain. I had hoped for dry weather, because my tumble dryer stll hasn't been repaired.
It looks like I will need to purchase a new one, all for the sake of an unobtainable door catch.
I am going to chase up the engineer today.
I too am off to the dentist, to have a crown fitted. It was too risky to remove the broken tooth, due to my health problems. I am not looking forward to it.
Best wishes to all, who are struggling.
Good morning from a dull looking Suffolk where I fear we have seen the last of the sun for a few days.
I’m meeting a friend for coffee in a nearby town which is where I have a pedicure booked for 1pm. We are trying,in anticipation of fuel restrictions, trying to limit our use of our cars and it’s just helpful that both activities today were booked before the present crisis.
Hope all have a good day.
Morning from an overcast S Hants, heading into a colder period.
Yesterday on the voluntary phone was average, all lifts sorted by 6:30 pm.
I need to get out today and stretch these legs, I’ve a to do list which sadly involves ringing the dentist 😕.
I’m pleased you didn’t tackle that thorny challenge Roses.
You must be so cross Ashcombe it really isn’t on, all the knock on from someone else’s fault.
Where do you get all these vouchers monk!
Cashpoint later, to pay for my hair cut on Friday.
🦩🦩
Good morning from N.Bucks . It seems we are back to overcast chilly weather.
Yesterday was a quiet day, a bit of housework and some card making for craft club.
Some ironing to do this morning and a walk down to town for a couple of bits. Lunch out with 3 friends and a bit of art work .
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.
Good morning from a wet northwest coast. Another quiet day yesterday and a mix up over tickets for a symphony concert next Sunday. I had a gift voucher and booked in January. I forgot I had also booked for my friend and he booked another ticket…
Long FaceTime with sister in the south, she always cheers me up and today to the music club. I’ll be glad to get going again after the miserable cold I’ve had for a couple of weeks.
Thoughts to all🌺
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry but feels much colder than recently
So sorry to hear your trip to France is postponed Ash so frustrating for you both and as you say, none of it your fault. I hope things are resolved soon and you can get back there
I’m off to the gym for an aerobics class this morning and then I’ve got a hairdressers appointment this afternoon. I’m looking forward to catching up on all the local news and the banter in the salon.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning everyone from an overcast Northampton, showers are forecast later.
Had a good day yesterday; back to yoga in the morning which gave me a good stretch, then to the little cafe round the corner for coffee.
Then home where I found a pile of post awaiting me, including the new cruise brochure for next year, 2027. I was tempted and booked a Canaries cruise for next April, which had a
good discount!
Did a quick load of washing which I hung out, had lunch, then it was round to my neighbours for coffee and cake for the three of us. We put the world to rights for a couple of hours!
Back home I spent a good hour still putting stuff away from my holiday, and general tidying/sorting.
Later this morning DD is coming to take me to my first cataract appointment - this is where I have all the pre-surgery tests and examination, and discuss what lens I will need.
I have promised DD lunch out afterwards!
Hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning all from a dull Black country.
Roofers are due today to replace the garage roof, typically the weather has changed hopefully it will remain dry.
Will eat out later once they have left we have yet another voucher.
Best wishes for anyone celebrating, safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.
Have the best day you can ☀️.
