Fitted sheets

After having to manipulate my bottom sheet again to put it straight I am left wondering if any fitted sheets have strong enough elastic around the edge to stop them wandering around when used?

I love my silk pillowcase. But I do iron the other cases and a quick sweep with the iron over the duvet covers. MS fitted sheets seem to be OK movement wise. But the best fit for no movement at all is a tucked in flat brushed cotton sheet. Looked as though no one had slept on it. But my matteress is very square at the corners, not rounded at all and I think that helps. My mother would be proud of my hospital corners as she was a nurse.

I iron pillow cases. I like pure cotton and like the feel of a soft iron pillowcase on my face. Tried the silk one that claim to be better for hair and wrinkles. Didnt like it.

M n S fitted sheets, fine cotton, all different sizes and depths.

I prefer the ones with strong elastic only at the ends, the "all round" ones bag out more at the sides after a couple of nights.

Iron sheets? Never.
Mum didn't back in the day either.

Scotts of Stow do deep fitted sheets, colour choice not as wide as 'ordinary' ones

Well here’s my thang😏
I’m sick of sliding all over the bed then Tucking the sheets back under then picking my doona off the floor 😅😅 I’m going to find lovely cool smooth cotton polyester sheets and send all my microfibres to St Vinnies 🥺

Get yourself a set of 'sheet suspenders' or bed sheet holders - they clip onto the underside of the fitted sheet and stop them from going anywhere. Absolute game changer - you can buy them on Amazon, eBay etc and they're not expensive.

Sheet suspenders are news to me. They sound like some sort of kinky fetish equipment.

Hey, I'm not judging anyone's kinks...gringringrin

I buy fitted sheets from Rise and Fall. They are not cheap but the elastic is very strong and won’t move. They do different sizes.

I like the 400 thread count Egyptian cotton deep corners. I get them in Argos. They are £28 for a lovely thick sheet. The elastic is strong on corners and I put it on over thick mattress topper too.

I find Dorma fitted sheets are good, a perfect fit with enough give for fitting easily.

Are you sure the sheets you buy are not too big for the mattress you use them on?

I ask because I have only had the problem when I stupidly bought too large a size as I had left my reading glasses at home.

What does SK stand for?
an old boyfriends mother used to ‘do’ B&B and ironed her sheets on the bed. Really good for older fitted sheets and takes 2 minutes

The fitted sheets from Rise and Fall are perfect . They are over £50 each but have wide elastic all the way round, as opposed to thin elastic on just the corners . They are also deep and fit most mattresses . I don’t buy any others now .

Glad not only me BlueBelle who doesn't iron! Ironing sheets, what a waste of time, they are crumpled within one nights sleep. Life is far too short to iron and sheets especially!

I bought my latest sheets (two years ago) from Sheet Story. They are deep and have great elastics. They also have a tag to show the top/bottom of the sheet so you don't have to guess! The first ones I bought through amazon but when I bought the quilt covers I went direct to the company. We are really happy with them. sheetstory.com/

I wondered too. Then I bought Tempur. Fab!

Barbadosbelle Mon 30-Mar-26 15:07:06

.

Most fitted base sheets are only elasticated on the corners and they can come away.
However. M&S, JLP and Amazon do sell some that are elasticated all way around, which are perfect.
You just have to seek them out!

I find that so many fitted sheets simply don't fit well, some are so loose that they crease up everywhere and others are so tight that I break nails trying to pull them down over the corners.

I have been using suspenders for year, but can't lift the mattress any longer. I now buy Rise & Fall Sheets, a bit more expensive but worth every penny they simply spring in to place and stay there. They are fabulous quality too. I have stopped ironing the fitted sheet because they look like they have been ironed once on, but I iron everything else.https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChsSEwi7zPfr4MeTAxXFk1AGHSTbEMkYACICCAEQABoCZGc&co=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwvqjOBhAGEiwAngeQnQ6eSpn31oPOL2ixNuAltuTX9ukJwKCDk9-938vRv0_vSDV9gV6MfBoCEFcQAvD_BwE&cce=1&sig=AOD64_3tqBkK3rbY4vrafEmIVe82JKok5g&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwjLyPHr4MeTAxV1TEEAHcZ-DUoQ0Qx6BAgUEAE

I have 400tc cotton sheets Habitat, from Sainsbury’s, they’re at least 10 years old and never a problem. I put diagonal corners into place and they stay there.

The other disadvantage is that you can't sew "sides to middle" when the centre bit is getting thin!

I've never sewn sides to middle! My mother used to, with a lovely flat felled seam but I could still feel it in the middle of my sheet.
