Not much good with technology
My cooking is average
Cant do diy in the slightest
And quite a lot more besides.

Thankfully there is a bunch of things I can do.

What can others not do?

I dont have the slightest bit of ego problems with not being able to do some things.
Nor telling people I cant.
And thankfully, being part of a very large family, we all help each other help.

What cant you do?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 30-Mar-26 09:09:27

I cannot ride a bicycle, much to the amusement of my AC who have tried on numerous occasions to teach me, the GC have now accepted the challenge to teach Granny…

Naughtyneine Mon 30-Mar-26 09:10:02

I can't cook rice..it doesn't matter how many different recipes or followed advice from friends I've tried...it never ever comes out fluffy...slice of rice anyone?
Oh who mentioned handstands and cartwheels....I could do them really well and now have a real yearning to try and do them again....which at 71 and 8 weeks post hip revision op would be madness....but in my head I can still do them ( and do you know later this year I may give it a go....😱)

Basgetti

I’ve found I can pretty much do anything I turn my hands too.

Sorry, I’ll get my coat 😁

You’re not alone. 😉
But I can’t play chess, click my fingers, wink, or do that clucking thing with my mouth.

fancyflowers Mon 30-Mar-26 09:20:50

I can't walk very well, I can't ride a bike ( never got one in spite of loads of letters to Father Christmas).

I can knit but I can't crochet.

I can't do maths, it never clicked with me. And I didn't see the point of learning calculus. Apparently it had something to do with how many cornflakes could fit in a box. I really didn't care.

I can sew and made my own wedding dress and all my bridesmaids' dresses, as well as most of my girls' clothes when they were young.

I can't swim properly and don't like the baths. It's far too cold when you get out.

I can't deal with technology. My limit is turning the TV on and off.

I can't grow peonies. I have tried for years and failed spectacularly every time.

I can't ride a horse. (To be fair, I've never tried - we weren't a horsy family where I grew up).

That's it for now but I'm sure there's lots more that I can't do.

Try as I might I can’t climb a ladder so I have never been or seen my loft. I often wonder what my DH has up there.

I can't remember what I can't do...

TheWeirdoAgain60 Mon 30-Mar-26 09:41:41

I just can't ....

do any type of needlework, including knitting, never had the slightest bit of interest in it, constantly shouted at by ''teachers'' at school for not doing it ''properly'', and the same situation with any type of cooking/baking.

I can't garden. No idea where to begin. I have indoor plants, and that's it!

I can't do drawing, painting, or craftwork. Drawing little doodles and adding stickers in my diaries is the furthest I've ever gone!

I can ...

run 20 miles non-stop

A good swimmer, doing multi-lenghts of the Olympic-sized pool.

My singing voice is Karen Carpenter style.

Fallingstar Mon 30-Mar-26 12:49:43

I can’t do anything first thing in the morning - though I generally get up early - have to have a cuppa and a little while to collect myself or I am discombobulated.

cc Mon 30-Mar-26 14:42:27

In general I can't do anything that I don't want to do....

MammaTJ Mon 30-Mar-26 14:42:37

I'm so rubbish at housework, I don't try any more! 🤣

knspol Mon 30-Mar-26 14:48:01

Cannot cook anything unless very basic, can't bake a cake, can't sing or even hold a tune, can't play any musical instrument, can't find my way out of a paper bag - no sense of direction whatsoever. Can't draw or paint. Sometimes can't even remember what day it is but what the heck, I bumble on fairly contentedly.

Jojo1950 Mon 30-Mar-26 14:52:39

You must feel very lucky indeed. That’s fabulous 💐

Why do we find it so much easier to say the things we are not good at? Maybe we fear looking boastful if we say the things we are good at? Having written that, I thought I should say something I am good at - and at once found myself reluctant! It turns out that I am afraid of looking boastful myself.......so here goes: I have sometimes made it easier for some other people, who asked me to help, make positive changes in their lives. Well......there are lots of things I am no good at - but having made myself write something posibive I will stop there. I wonder if others will find it harder to recognise things they are good at - but maybe give it a try?

There are things that I can’t do, but nowadays there’s an ever growing list of things that I can no longer do. I can no longer run, or jump. I found that last one out when I bought a skipping rope during Covid, meaning to exercise more. I took it outside. Unfurled it, placed it in position behind my heels, swung it over my head and tried to jump. To my surprise I just couldn’t make my feet leave the ground. Sad really, because I used to love skipping when I was younger.

I love a good sing-song, but the croaky sounds that come out of my mouth these days, well, they sound like gas escaping 😱. So that’s on the list of things I can no longer do too 😟

grannybuy Mon 30-Mar-26 15:07:03

I can knit, sew, crochet and do some alterations. Can also cook and bake, and used to do all the wallpapering. I can’t swim out of my depth. I used to cycle a lot when young, but not brave enough now. The things that I wasn’t good at was to some extent because I wasn’t interested in them eg ball games, athletics, or maybe wasn’t interested because I wasn’t good enough. I’ve never been able to do a cartwheel or handstand, or even touch my toes, despite being short and slim. I’m not good at keeping on top of cleaning - again possibly because I’m not very interested!

Polremy Mon 30-Mar-26 15:08:34

I can sing ….well, I’m really good at knowing all the words to hundreds of songs.
It’s just the tunes I find difficult!

debsf1 Mon 30-Mar-26 15:23:58

I can sit and be tattooed for 8+ hours yet can’t tolerate the earth shattering pain of a paper cut without feeling faint..
I can / could horse ride though I haven’t done so for a few years and I can’t ride a bike to save my life. I can’t hit a dartboard without endangering lives around me, I can’t crochet and I can’t dance despite very intense training when I was young, my two left feet won in the end. However, I can cook, hang wallpaper, change a tyre and replace an oven thermostat! 🤣

jenpax Mon 30-Mar-26 15:30:40

I cannot sew, bake cakes (although I could cook you an excellent 3 course dinner 😉) I am useless at maths though weirdly was good at chemistry at school? I am unable to work out how to assemble flat pack furniture (the strange diagram sheets defeat me as make no sense!) I cant do much DIY, but why not outsource to those who can 😁 I am scared of heights so cannot climb ladders. I never could whistle although I have a good singing voice I was useless at most sports at school and never enjoyed them (possibly because I was bad🤔) I could never master hand stands or roller skates though I did manage ice skating. I am not great at housework (again I outsource) and find housework beyond tedious. I used to be able to crochet and darn😁 never learned knitting so not sure if I could do that.

Won't touch anything to do with electricity (can change a bulb and batteries) or gas.
Will have a go at basic plumbing eg find a leak, tighten washers up.
Painting and decorating I hate and it shows
Laid brick edging on a garden path but had to get someone to cut two bricks needed for angles.
Will fill up washer on car, check oil and tyres.
Assemble Swedish type furniture (very slowly).
Knit and crocket basic stuff.
Used to sew curtains, dressmaking, upholstery but now basic alterations and soft furnishings.
Can't say expert in anything.

StoneofDestiny Mon 30-Mar-26 15:51:37

I couldn’t agree more 👏👏👏
I had to dig deep for my failures. 😂

Sounds pretty ok to me 😂

Cyclistmumgrandma Mon 30-Mar-26 16:18:30

I knit, I make my own designs by adapting fair isle patterns. I can crochet, sew and am a pretty decent cook. My maths is good and I'm pretty fair at technology (I have designed and run websites). I cycle (have toured Croatia and Brittany by tandem). Just got back from a holiday involving deep water snorkelling and have kayaked in Antarctica. Can't sit cross legged any more though as a knee replacement put paid to that and I don't hike long distance.

Janash Mon 30-Mar-26 16:20:05

I can't walk far sad Paralysed 21 years ago and tried and tried to get back up and 'running' but the best I do is stagger like a Friday night drunk.... still practising though!

I can knit, sew, crochet, cross stitch, bobbing lace pretty good cook and baker. Electric trike arriving any day soon trying to strengthen my legs that way smile
