I have taken the liberty to open a new kitchen.

Bubbles, friendship and support in abundance xxxxx

Hello kitchen people and especially FGT2.🌹

We had lunch out today which was good. Read the papers when we got back.

The pigeon which was nesting in our garden seems to have vanished. She was in her dreadful tatty nest this morning but gone this afternoon.

I won £2.80 on the Euromillions! Yippee. Perhaps I’ll have better luck when I check my Premium Bonds tomorrow,

Sleep 💤 tight.

‘Evening All’

I went to the Trafford Centre today and treated myself to a cashmere ‘v’ neck jumper two-thirds price in the John Lewis sale so £59 instead of £99 happy me. Then (as it was sales) I bought a lovely top from Hobbs too. I enjoyed my splurge the first time this year I’ve bought anything really.

Then this afternoon was my bereavement counselling session for an hour. I cried. A lot. So much to unpack from the last awful 10 months that Himself had to endure. Talking about it reminds me of how bluddy anxious I was. Constantly on high alert. I’m drained tonight to be honest.

brook I do hope that the industrial strength anti histamines work for you and that you’ll be more comfortable soon.

charleygirl I find that hospital and other medical appointments tend to be a bit like London buses - none for a while then loads come along at once! It’s always a route march to find the right department too.

It’s been a glorious day today, dry, sunny and warm. I abandoned my socks, and didn’t need a coat when I went out. I think it’s back to normal over the weekend and into next week.
Fingers crossed I’ve managed to find someone to help with my garden. He’s going to have a look at it on Sunday morning and will decide if he can help or not! I did pull a few weeds out this afternoon, which only served to show how many are still growing, no doubt any rain this weekend will spur them on to greater heights!

grannygravy I hope you had a good meal this evening. Enjoy your weekend free from technology.

Enjoy the rest of the evening folks.

Charleygirl5 Fri 01-May-26 18:50:45

I loved yesterday's sun and sunbathed outside, watching the washing dry with my woollen cardigan on! It was very pleasant

All I appear to do these days is go to hospital appointments. The next is Tuesday, having been informed on Thursday evening. It is local, but one needs hiking boots to visit that hospital and I have no idea where I am going. I hope the transport man does!

brook2704 Fri 01-May-26 18:28:21

Hi kitchen friends, it’s been very warm but cloudy here today with an occasional light shower. I saw the GP this morning and came away with industrial strength antihistamines, eye drops and a nasal spray. If that lot doesn’t ease my hayfever then I’m well and truly beaten! Then I struggled through a couple of dance classes at the gym before getting the bus home
It’s good to have an online break now and again GG👍
You’ve still done more around the house than me grandmabatty 🤭
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all

Grandmabatty Fri 01-May-26 18:05:21

Enjoy your meal, GrannyGravy. I don't think I've ever eaten Malaysian food.
Today I achieved little. I changed the bedding and got the sheets etc washed and dried but that was it. It has been cloudy with some showers, so no weeding happened. Oh well, as Scarlet O' Hara said, "tomorrow is another day."

GrannyGravy13 Fri 01-May-26 17:00:07

Hi kitchen pals 🙋‍♀️

I am showered, dressed and ready to go out to dinner with DH (Malaysian restaurant, up the road)

My intentions are to have a technology free Bank Holiday weekend, so I shall endeavour not to log into GN until Tuesday morning.

I wish you all a peaceful weekend and hope you find some joy in whatever you are doing 🙋‍♀️🌸🌺🌼🪻🌷

Hi everyone.
fgt how nice to have made a new friend, although a sad reason for meeting in the first place.
Another lovely sunny day here, still with a cool breeze, but a little warmer than yesterday.
My niece and her DH came this morning, bringing some of the family photos and documents she had found in her mum’s bungalow. One was a piece of paper relating to my parents’ purchase of the bungalow my niece now lives in. It cost £6600 back in 1970! My parents had to take out a mortgage to buy it, as their previous house was leasehold and only sold for about £4500! The repayments were made by cheque in person at the building society! How times have changed since then.

I attempted some gardening again but the ground is hard now, we need rain to soften it before any more progress can be made.

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.

Jaxjacky Thu 30-Apr-26 20:46:21

How lovely FGT a pleasure for both of you.

‘Evening All’

I met a recently bereaved teacher (only 61) today who was warm and very good company- we got on really well together over coffee. We plan to meet up again in the school summer holidays for wine next time.

Sad reason of course for how we met but it’s so nice just to ‘get’ one another. A new friendship beckons - always a pleasure in life isn’t it?

brook2704 Thu 30-Apr-26 19:48:08

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been another beautiful sunny day here. I met my friend for lunch as we sat for a good few hours in the sunny garden sharing a bottle of wine. Home about 4pm and then I fell asleep on the sofa. Not much housework has been done here today, oh dear, I must try harder 🤭
I’ve not had the ironing board out for a while, it might get a bit more use now that I’m in my linen trousers ….
Hoping everyone is doing ok, take care all x

Nannytopsy Thu 30-Apr-26 19:23:47

My ironing has been waiting all week …
We got the DGC at 7.30 am, then again after school. Now restored to peace and quiet!

Grandmabatty Thu 30-Apr-26 19:22:33

Jaxjacky well done you! Llfl that asparagus feast sounds wonderful, as does your steak dinner Grannygravy
I did the ironing this morning and put the clothes and duvet cover away. Then more weeding in the front garden and more clearing out the boys' room. I had a nap this afternoon too. It's been such a beautiful day again today.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 30-Apr-26 18:51:25

ladyleftfiedlover I adore English asparagus, never eat the imported stuff 😡

The 11yr old is here for his weekly sleepover, I am just about to cook dinner (steak, chips & mushrooms for them, steak and salad for me)

Wishing you adieu 🙋‍♀️

Jaxjacky Thu 30-Apr-26 18:40:45

🙂 Grandmabatty.
Bedding’s turn today, washed and dried, it’s been sunny, still with a gusty wind.
Hob and oven door cleaned, Tesco list fiddled with, birthday cards ordered and a good luck one for Imogen in her A levels.
MrJ nipped out to our sort of garden centre to buy black bin bags while I spoke to our village butcher about chicken crowns - riveting!
Read about the new Banksy sculpture in London, food for thought, then watched the video of Roo travelling with the King and Queen to America.
Dinner is on, pork steaks in bbq sauce, I hope you’ve all had a good day and enjoy your evening.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 30-Apr-26 18:31:08

Hello kitchen people. I am stuffed!

Every year when the first English asparagus are in the shops we have a feast: steamed asparagus, bacon, poached eggs, muffins and Hollandaise sauce. The sauce contains 3 egg yolks and 6 ozs of butter, which is why I only make it once a year!

I had a glass of Prosecco too.

Have a good evening everyone. OH has an AGM to attend so I might watch an old Poirot.

Grandmabatty Thu 30-Apr-26 08:22:50

Jaxjacky 😂 If it makes you feel better, the ironing did not get done. A job for today

Oh Gmattie, how can you ever be ‘ok’ again after such losses? flowers The most apt comment I have received is about eventually adjusting to a new normal.

It’s so heartbreaking, any loss of a loved one. 💐for us all who are devastated and sorrowful tonight but especially you grandMattie x

Nannytopsy Wed 29-Apr-26 21:24:34

Evening all! So my jobs today were to clean the 4 panels of our patio doors then to wash all the paintwork inside and out, because I made a mess of them with the pressure washer. Two loads of washing dried in no time. Then we scrubbed 5 out of 6 teak garden chairs, which the wet winter had turned green. What a mess! Followed by a village meeting but now home with Masterchef. I have just realised that we still have the bed to make 😳. We’ll have to do it at bedtime.
I have sleeves to shorten on a new dress but they are gathered in pleats at the bottom. Life is never straightforward!
Sleep well everyone x

Jaxjacky Wed 29-Apr-26 19:52:38

I don’t like posting after Grandmabatty makes me feel idle 🤣😄
Here goes, washing done and outside this morning, sorted out some seeds, I would have sown a few but sore today, I have appendectomy adhesions that this hip saga has aggravated.
Off after lunch for a DEXA scan, traffic was appalling, a ten minute lie down on a very hard couch, result in two weeks.
Just eaten sausages, mash and beans, very nice too.
I should finish my book at bedtime, really enjoyed it, Susie Dent, Guilty by Definition, it was recommended by a friend.
Thoughts with the quiet corner, I too think of Baggs.

Redcar Wed 29-Apr-26 19:45:05

Hello everyone. A lovely sunny day here, but with a strong north easterly wind which made it feel quite cold. I walked round to the village shops for a few things this morning. I cleaned the shower tray and washed the bathroom floor, then vacuumed throughout the house.
After lunch I attempted to do a little gardening until my back ached too much. I’m beginning to realise that I need help in the garden, not cutting the grass or pruning things, but generally weeding and tidying.

grandmabatty a busy day for you, I envy your energy!

brook enjoy your dance class!

Thinking of all those in the quiet corner.

Have a pleasant evening folks.

Grandmabatty Wed 29-Apr-26 17:12:12

Good evening kitchen folk. Brook enjoy your dance class tonight. It's been a lovely warm day here too. I had a chiropodist appointment this morning then worked in the school library for an hour. Home and hung out a washing, then tidied the kitchen. I've started clearing the boys' room and should finish it tomorrow. I weeded half the front garden and started howking out weeds and dirt from the monoblock path, so a productive day for me. I'll bring in the washing shortly and I plan to iron it tonight. Enjoy your evening folks

GrannyGravy13 Wed 29-Apr-26 16:30:52

grandMattie sending a (((hug)))

brook2704 Wed 29-Apr-26 16:27:29

Hello kitchen friends, it’s a beautiful warm sunny day up here, not a cloud in the sky and about 18°
I’ve enjoyed a volunteering session this morning, a quick class at the gym and then I’m going out to a dance class this evening. We’ll be eating early, just a warm salad with chicken and spicy mayo.
I hope our kitchen friends facing sad and difficult times just now are managing ok with someone to support them, take care all x
