We've been doing "No Mow May" too Jax.
I think our small front and back lawns look lovely and are still green while our neighbours have dead brown lawns.
DH is just going to take the tops off tomorrow and will wait until after the promised rain before mowing shorter.
Redcar MrJ is itching to cut our back grass/weeds/flowers, we’ve observed No Mow May!
Never alone with us lot FGT you are doing so well, yes you’ll have moments of sorrow, lots of memories, but you’re also making new ones this trip.
Brave lady x
fgt Just love your outlook. Really pleased you're enjoying your holiday
fgt I’m alone too and it’s good to know you’re there! A hot day here, but no Mediterranean views unfortunately. The Waitrose at Sidford in East Devon has a lovely view of the sea from its front windows and the car park. We used to holiday there a lot (Sidmouth, not Waitrose!), although from the times we shopped there we might as well have actually stayed in the car park.
grandmattie I agree that being alone is not nice, but I’ve seen DD1 and her DH and dog today for an hour, and had a chat to DD2, so I’ve had some company, I won’t see anyone tomorrow unless I make the effort to go for an early walk to see the dog walking people.
jaxjacky for some reason I feel guilty using the hose to water the garden, but the water butts are almost empty now. I am apparently using more water than average, according to Anglian Water.
My next door neighbour is shaving the grass in our front gardens!
yiayia your new grand pup is beautiful! Well done to your Dgs2 on passing his driving test.
Have a pleasant evening everyone, make the most of any warmth we still have!
Aw Yia what a cute puppy!
And thank you for responding grandMattie.
It’s not nice.
I don’t actually mind eating alone I’ve done it many times on occasions over the years. I’m quite confident in that respect.
It’s more the actuality of really ‘being alone’.
I had a few tears in the lift coming back up. Hey ho.
Dory you’re feeling alone. It not nice, is it?
But I’m pleased that you are having such a good time as well as getting your head cleared. Abrazos
I’ve had another Good Day.
Met a neighbour in hers for coffee after she’d had an apt refit two months ago. Very nice - however too ‘contemporary’ for me - what is it with grey everything these days? Yikes.
I wandered up to the Carrefour. Just for a mooch. I bought some artificial greenery that’ll do me nicely 😁 and took this photo at the checkout! What a view eh? I don’t get this in my larder downstairs at home … a view of the Mediterranean, just a stunning view.
Well done to your grandson Yia 🚘 and I'm glad you’re booked up for some R&R.
Good news from your sister FGT and a meet up planned 👍
26 today, tomorrow will be down to 21, a big difference, no rain due until Monday. MrJ bought flowers today and spilt some of the preservative stuff on the floor, so that needs washing, he’s making pasta sauce right now.
Watering again tonight, another heat wave and they’ll bring the old hose ban in I expect! I hope you’re still enjoying your trip brook.
Have a pleasant evening all.
Afternoon Kitcheners,it’s been a very warm sunny week and we have enjoyed being outside and having BBQs.DH has been painting the garden table and chairs it’s taken him all week but good for him to keep busy. Some good new, my GS2 passed his driving test this week that’s quite an achievement as he’s doing A level exams at the moment.
We have a new granddog Dalmatian number 2 called Whizzer. Both dogs crashed out this morning my DIL said it was very peaceful!
I was so sorry to hear about your dog Niene animals become family and it breaks your heart when they go.🪻
Your trip to the Swiss mountains sounds wonderful Brook we did it in our motorhome many years ago and I remember the scenery was stunning.
Glad you’re enjoying your holiday FGT and good that you have so many friends around you.
Hope your feeling a bit better Grandmabatty, not nice feeling low.🌹
We go to our favourite place Sunday week, our grandson is coming the following day and is looking forward to us showing him around.
Thinking of you all.
I’m just home from Bingo in the village hall, the first evening session since last October. As most of us are older we don’t like going home in the dark in the winter! It was quite well attended, and good fun especially as I won a little cash!
DD2 took me to the local garden centre for a look around and a coffee this morning, which was enjoyable and I resisted the temptation to buy more plants.
I think tomorrow will be warm again but no idea if we’ll get any rain. I’ll have to tackle the housework tomorrow, and will make the effort to clear the dining room table of papers again. Not only do I have some of the household items from my godmother’s bungalow, but I also have photos and papers from my sister in law’s house too. Most of it needs keeping but I don’t know where to put it.
There are lots of toys in the dining room too, my suggestions to donate some of them to charity are met with resistance from the youngest DGDs.
fgt a relief that your sister is coping with the situation regarding her DH, a good idea to meet up later in the year when her DH will have recovered from his operation.
Night night everyone, sleep well.
Night night dear friends, I am behind on your news, will catch up over the weekend 🙋♀️
Happy Anniversary GrandmaC47
I dont often pop in here, but I am sitting looking down the gsrden after such a pleasant day weather wise after the heat. And waiting for the moon to rise. Yesterday it was almost golden and getting towards full.
Fgt your holiday sounds perfect. We spent several holidays in an apartment in Nerja with a swimming pool on the roof looking down towards the sea and back up towards mountains. The apartment block was old and full of character. When we arrived we were unhappy that the balcony didnt face the sun....how wrong we were. It was perfect being in the shade.
Tomorrow I must cut the grass and scrub the garden table. I need a strong pair of helping hands to move some tubs with me and to put some bricks under a couple to raise them up higher with shorter tubs in front. A friend will help on Monday.
Enjoy your evening everyone and a cool night for sleeping at last. Even last night after a cooler day was still hot.
Very quiet here tonight. I seldom post but love following everyone. I’ve had another quiet week. Had my hair cut very short on Tuesday because of the heat. Then the weather has changed here. Much more comfortable with cooler days, the heat wipes me out.
It was our 55th wedding anniversary yesterday but it passed with little acknowledgement. Not surprising after so many years 🤣.
Fgt, your time in your happy place must be bitter sweet. Hope your bil recovers quickly.
‘Evening All’
Very quiet in here tonight.
I’ve had a Good Day here in the sunshine, halfway through my holiday now.
I won’t be going into the Costa del Sol hospital in Marbella to support my sister. I had thought to go Monday however she’s fine, coping admirably (I would expect no less) and so we have tentatively proposed meeting for lunch halfway between her place and mine, later in the year. As long as she’s okay I’m fine about that. I offered, that’s the main thing. It’s what families do. 😊
Hello kitchen people.
Not quite the day I’d hoped for! I awoke feeling a bit rough. I think I was still recovering from the recent extreme heat even though it was ‘only’ 28 today.
I didn’t think I’d manage Book group so sent an email to our leader explaining I wasn’t up to it. A few minutes later I developed a migraine - the third this year. I quickly took a triptan and curled up on the sofa. I recovered enough to watch the first of two V&A lectures on Art Deco.
Have a good night and sleep 💤 tight.
Sounds idyllic Brook.
Hi kitchen friends, hoping everyone is doing ok and keeping cool in the heat
Hope you sleep better tonight Redcar and don’t wake too early!
You’ve made really good progress Jax and seem to have recovered well so far, I hope the ongoing pain isn’t too problematic for you ❤️
Hope your evening is going well fgt your friend sounds like a very interesting lady
How kind to take cakes for the nursery staff grandmabatty, the end of one chapter and a new one begins. I’m sure you’ll miss taking and picking up dgs2 from nursery, I know I miss those days too!
We’re just back to our hotel room after eating out. We had a beautiful day journeying through the Swiss mountains, the weather has been amazing. The snowy mountain tops, the green valleys and the alpine lakes are so beautiful this time of year.
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x
I really thought we were going to have some rain this afternoon as it was very overcast for quite a long time. But of course it passed us by as usual, maybe tomorrow? jaxjacky how dare it rain on your barbecue!
grannygravy well done for doing all that ironing! You must have been melting. I need to do some tomorrow but I won’t be able to stand for longer than half an hour so it will have to be done in stages.
fgt enjoy your evening with your dancing friend! I’m pleased that your BiL ‘s operation was successful and that your sister is coping with the situation. I’m sure she’ll be glad to have your support when you can get there.
grandmabatty the end of an era for you when your Dgs2 leaves the nursery. You’ll miss your involvement with the nursery and children.
DD2 and family arrived home from their holiday in Türkiye at 1.30 this morning, their flight was delayed by an hour and a half. It’s a good thing that the airport is only half an hour away from us. They had a good holiday, but with showery rain at times. I was still awake at 4.00 so actually heard the dawn chorus, the first time for ages.
School again next week and the weather will change.
Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.
Family have just left, they came at 5, my son joined us, it rained on our bbq! big splodges, not heavy and intermittent, we played UNO before we ate, a family favourite.
Enjoy your evenings out out FGT and GG13 🥂
Good evening kitchen folk. Im glad to hear your bil is recovering, Fgt. And that sounds like you have made a good friend. GrannyGravy have a lovely time with your friends.
Today I went to tesco early doors. Dgs1 needed a yellow t-shirt for tomorrow at school- a local charity thing- and I wanted to buy cakes for the nursery staff as a wee thank you for all they do. Dgs2 will leave the nursery in 4 weeks and my link with the nursery will be ended. I did want to get them strawberry tarts but there were none to be had, so chocolate éclairs and raspberry donuts it had to be. They were very much appreciated. Dgs2 came over to say hello then ran back to play. After that, I did some tidying up in the library. It didn't take long so I headed home and sorted the kitchen. I rested in the afternoon then roasted a gammon joint and had some with potatoes, green beans, cabbage and cauliflower cheese. It was very tasty with loads left. Neine, I was sorry to hear about your dog. I've loved all 3 of mine but my feet are too bad to get any more. I couldn't walk them. Enjoy the rest of the evening all.
I have just got myself ready to go out to dinner with our friends, haven’t seen them since before Christmas, wine will be consumed.
I have ironed all the bedding sets, along with shirts, trousers and dresses, two hours in total 🤷♀️
Been an odd day weather wise, really humid, no air and rather hazy.
Enjoy your evening dear pals 🙋♀️
