Hello everyone. I've just caught up. LLFL...I hope your toe is improving daily. I've got something between my little toe and the next one that aches like mad. I don't know if it's a corn or what but the relief when I take my converses off is immense. Jax...brilliant that you are back to the pub on Friday... They have obviously missed you as much as you've missed them. I saw my consultant on Friday and apparently I was the subject of many MDT meetings locally and regionally (Somerset Devon and Cornwall) pre op and a post op one is planned very soon. I'm still in the recovery stage and could be up to a year but he was delighted to see me smiling again and walking straight and back at the gym.
Redcar...backs are a buggeration as dear Soop would say. Mine is playing up now that I'm walking differently and I get that shin pain too at times I'm hoping as time goes on it will settle down.
NannyT... The bonfire sounds hazardous....Can she not take it to the 'tip' and dispose of it?
Cornergran... You've given us an idea now for a weekend away in Maevemouse.. We've both wanted to go to the Eden project and it's not too far away from here. I really should be banned from anything to do with plants at this time of year. I stopped at Solstice Services on the way home last week... allegedly to stop my hip seizing up but the truth is there is a huge Home Bargains with a big garden centre to the rear. I was doing ok until an assistant showed me a trick of how to get more plants in my trolley....oops. I casually suggested going to Beaulieu over the early May Bank weekend. DH said he immediately smelt a rat at me a) voluntarily going away in the motorhome and b) to a place that has a motor museum. He was of course absolutely correct...it's the Gardeners World Spring Show. Watch this space!!!!
Last week was fairly manic...I went to Surrey as even though the work was postponed for the 3rd time the car had been booked in for a service at DH previous company and I didn't feel able to cancel it again. DF and I went to Knole one day...Bluewater ( my back hates it there, the floors are so unforgiving) and the Ideal Home Show which is nothing like it used to be or is it that I've got to an age where I am not a sucker for the spiel exhorting me to buy a garlic grater plate... I've survived this far so I think I'll be ok. I did get a very useful cross body bag to use when flying especially EasyJet who at times count your handbag as your cabin bag. It will hold a passport, phone, cards and some notes too.
The weather has warmed up so it's probably time to unpack the summer stuff but you can guarantee if I do arctic conditions will return.
Love to everyone not mentioned....all those in the quiet corner and those in pain or distress.

(910 Posts)I have taken the liberty to open a new kitchen.
Bubbles, friendship and support in abundance xxxxx
grandmabatty that’s very noble and disciplined!
jax my DH and I didn’t bother with pudding, but every now and then I fancy something sweet, the thought of churros and chocolate made my mouth water!
Night night.
It’s gone very chilly this evening! I have had to put the heating on for an hour. A bit of gardening today with more planned for this week, slowly and gently.
I hope MrSoop is coping.
Hi all, aren’t the evenings lighter now after a sunny day. Today was domestic duties wiping down kitchen cupboard doors, then outside to do the windowsills and front door.
MrJ kindly weeded the veg bed, he watered it later too with the hose, so dry already, we checked our water butts are fairly full.
Beef casserole was for dinner, very tasty too, I hope utbb enjoyed her meal out.
I could do both something now Redcar, but nothing around, we don’t usually bother with puds.
Thoughts with those who are sad, it’s been a tough few weeks in the kitchen.
Grandmabatty
Redcar the churros are firmly in the fridge! Well done for your walk.
Churros in our family reminds us of walking home as the sun was rising and buying it from little more than roadside shacks in Spain. With coffee you could stand your spoon in ☕️
Just back from a late lunch, I resisted the temptation of looking round the antique centre. Roast beef and wine, delicious.
Bidding you a good night 🙋♀️
Redcar the churros are firmly in the fridge! Well done for your walk.
Another lovely sunny day here, so I went for an early (for me) walk and met up with some friends walking their dog. One of them used a mobility scooter, so it was a fairly brisk walk!
Did two loads of washing and tumbled them dry using half price electricity.
DD1 and family called in after the 7 year olds swimming lesson, bring Macdonalds for lunch for us all. They didn’t stay long as they were going out in the afternoon.
I did a little more gardening, the garden waste bin is nearly full. There are a few bare patches at the back of the garden, I’ll need to plant something before the weeds take hold again.
Sometimes it’s good to just eat what you fancy fgt. My eating habits have certainly gone downhill since my DH died! My consumption of biscuits and chocolate has increased, he was much more disciplined than I am!
grandmabatty the churros and chocolate sauce wouldn’t last long here, but I would probably feel guilty for eating them!!
Have a pleasant evening everyone.
Good evening kitchen folk. NannyTopsy that is very unneighbourly of her. Brook, it has been a lovely day here too. FGT eating what you fancy is a good thing.
I've had a quiet day. I went to Aldi this morning and stocked up, then pottered about. Ds has messaged me off and on all day and dd nipped in to steal carrots. I'm still waiting for the amazon delivery. Hopefully it won't be long. I had garlic and lemon salmon fillet with green beans and peas and cheesy mash. It was lovely. I have churros and chocolate dipping sauce and can't make up my mind whether to have a couple or leave them for the boys. Anyway, I hope you are having a pleasant Sunday.
‘Evening All’
I’ve had a smooth restful day. My bereavement counselling on Friday afternoon was cathartic but gruelling as working through past anxieties and upsets from the last 10 months took it out of me to be honest.
So no wine this weekend was the best idea. I always sleep SO much better without it shame I like it really!
My tea tonight was random but just what I fancied (you can do this when living alone, well I know you can anyway - but you know what I mean) so I had two hot buttered crumpets (I ALWAYS think of EllanVannin 👋) and a large mug of hot milky Horlicks. Delicious, not gourmet dining true but it hit the spot.
Thoughts with everyone in the quiet corner today. Life can be tough sometimes and anxiety is truly exhausting. xx
It’s been a lovely sunny day here, a slight breeze but not cold. I’ve enjoyed a few hours pottering in the garden, everything is growing well.
There’s chicken in the oven that we’ll have with veggies later. I’m on the antihistamines now for hay fever, they make me quite drowsy so I’ll probably fall asleep later unless I keep moving…
The neighbours bonfire doesn’t sound too good nannytopsy, I hope it’s not that often
Good you enjoyed the Eden Project cornergran, not so good about the rats, hope they’re on their way soon
Hoping everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, take care all x
It’s quiet today! We went to a plant fair this morning and I bought some interesting plants, mostly for DH’s tropical bed. I used my half price electricity to do two lots of washing. Unfortunately my neighbour decided Sunday afternoon was the best time for one of her regular bonfires. She runs a rabbit rescue in her small garden ( 50-60? Rabbits) and burns the bedding and associated droppings from the many cages. It smells awful. Hopefully, I can peg out my washing now. We are just watching DH’s rugby team win comprehensively.
We’ve had an excellent day trip to the Eden Project with the coach driver taking the strain. The sun shone, it wasn’t at all busy and we spent very little. Result!
We’ve been assured ratty and friends have been reported to pest control who will turn up at some point to assess and manage their highway across several gardens. I’m not sure I dare sit out until we’re a rat free zone but knowing someone will come is good enough for now.
I’ve not even managed potatoes this year jax so you’re one up on me. My farm worker father would be horrified, as am I really.
Time I tried for sleep, rest well everyone. TOYA
Quite day here also, night night 🙋♀️
Hope all kitchen pals are doing ok
It’s been a quiet day here, I went out food shopping this morning and then got on with the usual housework this afternoon. Not much else done but the day has gone quickly. I got a random phone call from someone asking if we wanted to view a new apartment for sale in Inverness, it got me thinking about downsizing in the future but I’m definitely not ready to give up my garden yet.
It can’t be helped Jax, you’re making really good progress though
Take care all
Hi all, a quieter day, garden wandering and weed spraying on the tarmac drive, my greenhouse is looking sad. I usually start my veg and flowers off in the house, then move to the gh, I’ve had to accept this year, there will be much less, probably no veg home grown apart from potatoes - MrJ put them in - and some beetroot. He took our grandson to football this afternoon, enjoyed by both.
May you all have a decent sleep, it makes a difference.
A lovely sunny day here. I didn’t go for a walk, the recreation ground is always busy on Saturday mornings. I did some ironing then more gardening. After lunch I cut back some shrubs, then sat out in the garden with an ice cream for a treat!
Have a pleasant evening everyone, I’ m watching rubbish tv!
Thinking of those in the quiet corner, I hope that life will be kind to you tonight and tomorrow.
I haven't been able to access qransnet for a few days so haven't caught up.
Corner gran my late neighbours cat brought me a dead rat (has a present) I was mortified and immediately told neighbour to come and remove it.
Fgt you are doing well hope counselling helps.
Jaxjacky slowly but surely you are getting there how lovely you received flowers and gifts on return to your Friday nights.
SueD the quiet evening must have felt strange after having a lot of company.
Sorry if I have missed anyone in quiet corner.
Good you made it to the pub Jaxjacky
Dragonfly I do Pilates and sympathies
UTTB onwards and upwards
Our date night included The Imp, who was an absolute angel and has added sag baghee to his favourite Indian food list 💙
Pleased things are getting back to normal Jax and sorry about your toe LLFL.
Pilates was brutal this afternoon I could hardly walk up stairs coming to bed. They do say ‘ no pain, no gain’!
Hope you enjoy The Eden Project Corner it is somewhere I have never been.
Sleep tight everyone.
jaxjacky so pleased that you’ve been able to resume your Friday catch up in your local! I’m sure you were welcomed back with open arms by all your friends. Great that you’ve been able to get back to normal at last. Take care!
Hi kitchen friends, hope everyone is doing ok
It’s been a busy day here, I’ve just done the usual classes at the gym then walked back into town. It’s getting very busy with tourists again, I enjoyed sitting with a coffee and people watching in my favourite cafe. I fell asleep on the sofa earlier, the end of a busy week, or it might have been the wine with dinner ….. I’m hoping to catch up with Dd2 and family over the weekend now that they’re back from their holidays
Sorry to hear your feet are suffering grandmabatty, hopefully resting them helps and they’re better soon
Pleased you’ve had a better day uttb and hoping your toe is on the mend again llfl
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x
If I win the lottery Nannytopsy 👍
One of those days llfl I do hope your toe settles down again.
Good kit Redcar should help a lot.
Glad you enjoyed your trip out utbb you sound perkier.
We, that means me too, were out for a Friday catch up in the local! December was the last time for me, it was so lovely, saw so many people I’ve missed, hugs and given tulips, only an hour and a little, but very cheering.
More rest Grandmabatty orders!
I hope you enjoyed your trip outcorner and it encourages sleep
Glad that people seem to have had good days! Enjoy the Eden Project Corner.
I took my exercise walk ( only one crutch!) to visit a chap in the village who had a new hip 8 days ago. He’s 14 years older than me but is struggling a bit - can’t get in and out of bed etc. While I was there, another man came to discuss hip surgery! Will he be able to drive his motorbike to Germany in August? 🤣
DH has continued cleaning the patio today. We have soak aways not drains and a large patio, so we do it a bit at a time. I have done a bit of church fundraising admin. We have raised £15,500 so far. Only £184,500 to go to retile the roof. Any generous millionaires out there? 😁
Hope you all have a good evening then sleep well!
Good evening kitchen folk. Llfl your poor toe! Hopefully it will get fixed..Utbb it sounds like you had a good time.
I've paid the price for walking further than normal yesterday (which isn't much). My feet are swollen and sore. So I have rested most of the day. I did get most of the washing done and tidied up. I suspect tomorrow will be a repeat of today. Enjoy your evening all.
Good evening everyone.
I have had a much better day today, I think I was just very tired yesterday.
Last night my friend texted to remind me that we had a tentative arrangement to go out today.
It hadn’t been confirmed and I had forgotten about it.
I decided to see how I felt this morning and then decided to go.
We just went to a “ shopping mill” place.
I hadn’t been for ages and it had all changed, not for the better, I shan’t rush back.
However we had Scampi and chips in the little cafe and I bought a very reasonably priced every day jacket, a new free standing magnifying mirror for the downstairs loo, some birthday cards and a bath sheet, just one unusually as I wasn’t sure about the quality.
I don’t think it will get a partner!!
We came home in pouring rain and I fell asleep on the sofa for an hour and a half, going out is so tiring for me now but I am pleased I went.
Sorry about the back Redcar and the toe Llfl look after yourselves.
While my friend was ordering the food I got chatting to a lovely couple on the next table and as usual it was all about our ailments, he raised me a knee, both done, and I raised him a hip, one hip and one knee.
They were so chatty I suddenly unbidden, thought, I wish you were my friends.
My friend up the road is definitely showing more signs of cognitive decline.
I was sad and frustrated with her on Wednesday as she was very sharp.
Lovely sun and blue sky now to end the day, I hope you are all enjoying it.
