I have taken the liberty to open a new kitchen.

Bubbles, friendship and support in abundance xxxxx

It’s quiet tonight. I’ve had a fairly uneventful day, posted a letter to the solicitor who is dealing with my late godmother’s estate, a longer walk than usual for me, but I don’t trust the post boxes around the village as they don’t show a collection time.
I saw my friend with dementia this afternoon, she wasn’t in our world but was smiling and mumbling at something in her world!

I’m sure your stepfather was pleased to see you fgt and to enjoy a wee dram with you! A difficult question for you to answer too.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner.

Enjoy the rest of the evening folks.

GrannySomerset Tue 05-May-26 20:53:11

Four years on I feel much the same, FGT, air brushing the awful last eighteen months and missing the man DH was for nearly sixty years. No wonder some days are sad, but, like you, I treasure all the good years with gratitude.

brook2704 Tue 05-May-26 22:07:03

Good to see you back GG
fgt 💐
It’s a bit chilly here today, the bus home was running late so I eventually got in about 5ish. After thinking this morning that I wasn’t going to buy anything in town today, it turned out being quite an expensive afternoon 🤭
Hope all our kitchen friends in the quiet corner are doing ok, take care all x

Nannytopsy Tue 05-May-26 22:15:00

I hope you are pleased with your purchases Brook!
It’s DH’s birthday soon, so I need to do some shopping. I also need to buy a 70th birthday gift for a friend who has bought me some lovely earrings. What to get?

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 05-May-26 22:41:48

Hello kitchen people.

We enjoyed having lunch with old friends. We had starters and mains at an excellent restaurant not far from where they live . We then went back to theirs for pudding and coffee.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Grannmarie Wed 06-May-26 16:00:34

Good afternoon, lovely Kitchen people.🥰

I'm trying to catch up with all your news, belated birthday wishes to Nannytopsyand any birthday people I have missed, happy holidays to those on their travels and gentle hugs to those who are grieving, or worrying about their health or the health of loved ones.
Granny Somerset, that's what I'm trying hard to do,
treasure all the good years with gratitude,
TOYA.

I'm beginning to resume my old routine, the Australian cousins are now enjoying a Mediterranean cruise, I envy their stamina!
Today I took my friend to Mass and Coffee Morning, tomorrow I will attend my NHS Strength and Balance class.

At the weekend DS1 and DdiL held a wee gathering to remember DH'S birthday, we had curry and cake and the boys sang 'Happy Birthday ' to their Dad. ❤️ It was good to see everyone together, the Wee Boy enjoyed playing in the garden with Grandpup . It was good to catch up with DGS1 and DGD and their busy lives.

Grandmabatty, I waved 👋 to you as we passed the Kelpies! I hope your garden work goes according to plan.🤞
brook, good to hear that you are spending time in your gorgeous garden. Thanks for the dolphin 🐬 photos, beautiful.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening, take care.

Grandmabatty Wed 06-May-26 16:22:04

I thought that was you GrannMarie 😂
Fingers crossed for the garden work to 1. Be affordable and 2. Go ahead.
I'm glad your family visit was successful and you remembered your dh so warmly. I have been very lazy today. I did 2 washes and hung them out, emptied and loaded the dishwasher but that's all I achieved. I enjoyed the sausages and mash last night and I'm considering if I should have it again tonight. Enjoy your evening kitchen folk

Jaxjacky Wed 06-May-26 19:19:46

Hi all, I achieved today, drove my car a short way and moved from a crutch to a stick.
I also had some online admin to get on with, all done, reminded son, yet again, to return the strimmer he borrowed 🙄
MrJ and I then went to our local and met up with our friends, two halves of shandy for me, home to slow cooker curry.
Glad you enjoyed your detox weekend GG23.
Your weekend homage to your DH sounds very loving Grannmarie.
I hope utbb is still enjoying *Grasmere.
Have a good evening all

Grandmabatty Wed 06-May-26 19:45:27

Jaxjacky well done. You are improving in leaps and bounds. (Not literally)

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 06-May-26 19:55:40

Himself would’ve been proud of his family today I think. We navigated what would have been his birthday quite well between us, focusing on happier times with gratitude for everything he gave us, emotionally and tangibly. RIP my darling man. Missed but never forgotten as you are in our hearts. x

Redcar Wed 06-May-26 20:44:08

Well done for navigating your DH’s birthday fgt, the “firsts” of every anniversary are always difficult to get through. I personally still find significant dates difficult after 5 years. After such a traumatic time, it’s hard to remember the good times!

jaxjacky excellent progress! If I lend any garden equipment to either DD, I know I’ll be lucky to ever see it again! I hope you can persuade your DS to return the strimmer soon.

I took some of my godmother’s sherry glasses to the local charity shop, along with her rollator, less than a year old, but she found it too hard to use. The ladies in the shop thought it would find a new home very quickly.

Enjoy the rest of the evening folks.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 06-May-26 22:00:11

FGT2 sending (((hugs)))

Well done Jaxjacky

Night Night from Gravy Grange 🙋‍♀️

brook2704 Wed 06-May-26 22:36:39

Well done Jax you’re making great progress
We’ve got both DGC here for a sleepover but the days are long since gone when we’d tuck them up in bed by 9ish and settle down for an hour of peace and quiet. They’re both still up, earlier they fell out with each other and stormed off to their rooms sulking 🤦‍♀️ they did make it up soon after though. Tomorrow we’ll take them out somewhere in the morning and then drop them off home at lunchtime
Good to have you back with us Grannmarie and pleased all went well with your visitors. It was lovely to hear how you and your family got together to remember your DHs birthday, difficult days for both you and fgt
Fingers crossed for the gardening work grandmabatty
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Grannmarie Thu 07-May-26 18:25:56

Good evening lovely Kitchen people.🥰

I hope you enjoyed your bangers and mash, Grandmabatty! I remember that song from my childhood, was it Sophia Loren and Peter Sellars?
Bangers and mash, minestrone
Bangers and mash, macaroni 🎵🎶😂

Fantastic progress, Jaxjacky, you must be feeling proud of yourself! Well done especially on your driving. You are regaining your mobility and independence.

FGT, I'm thinking of you and yours, you are supporting each other so well through the 'firsts'. ❤️ Early days still.

Redcar, I am sorry you have endured traumatic times. I hope you can find some comfort in happier memories of your DH. 💐

Hope the sleepover went well brook and the DGC enjoyed their outing this morning. Put your feet up now!

I'm thinking of Baggs, MrSoop and family, wishing them some comfort in their sorrow.

Well, best laid plans went out the window today, I received a call from the Sports centre to let me know that my Strength and Balance class was cancelled. So I had a lazy morning, no exercise involved! This afternoon I had my nails appointment, then my massage at the surgery, very welcome.
I posted my ballot papers yesterday, so no worries about voting today.

Beef stir fry for dinner, natural yoghurt and pomegranate seeds for afters.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Thursday evening and a good night's sleep. 😴
TOYA

Hi all, it’s sunny out, this time of day is often the best, washing was out by 9, cloudy by 10, but it dried,
The strimmer came back before my son started work, MrJ are discussing cut grass or not, I’m for no mow May, he’s not!
Village for blueberries and milk, forgot my new bank card to initiate.
I miss my similar class Grannmarie, it was Friday mornings too, I’ve been assured of a place when I’m ready.
I do hope you and your youngsters enjoyed your morning brook.
Bangers and mash here tonight, MrJ’s signature dish, he does make delicious mash.
Have a pleasant evening all - remembering those in a difficult place x

cornergran Thu 07-May-26 19:18:01

I’m on catchup. Again.

Hooray for your progress jax. Nothing wrong with a surprise lazy morning granmarie.

Although our grandchildren no longer have sleepovers I recall their younger years with more fondness than the bickering of teenage times brook. Having said that I’d not have missed a moment of any of it. Precious times.

fgt and redcar, a hug when you need one.

Sausage and mash is one of my favourites grandmab. Circumstances with appointments meant a breakfast this morning was sensible. Mr C opted for the full monty. Me? A sausage bap, thoroughly enjoyable. Amongst other things it was eye clinic day. The consultant was pleased, I was less pleased with the person wielding the needle. He obviously missed charm school, abrupt bordering rude and the biggest ouch yet. Much better than sight loss though.

It looks as if it could be a re-run of sorts tomorrow. I’ll be another year older. Somehow rat-gate put it out of our minds so no plans. It could well be another breakfast before a trip to a super pier I love. Oh dear. Apologies to the arteries. More apologies on Saturday when there’s a family Chinese meal.

Rat-gate is getting me down now. No solution yet, I’ll not go into the garden on my own. We don’t dare leave the back door open. Our area manager is coming next week, I hope she brings her crash helmet!

Feet up time here. Although my sight has cleared my eye is very sore. I should rest it. As usual I’ve been ignoring instructions and now for once will do what I was told.

Look after yourselves. Rest well.

hulahoop Thu 07-May-26 19:23:30

We have just finished bangers and mash a meal I always enjoy. Everyone sounds very busy at the moment. It's been lovely reading about your outings with family Granmarie. Well done Jaxjacky another achievement ticked.
Fgt glad your family get together went well.Best wishes to all and💐to all needing them.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 07-May-26 19:47:44

Hello kitchen people,

We had bangers and mash too! With peas and gravy.

I made a batch of our favourite lemon ice cream and put the fruit to soak for Barmbrack, which I’ll finish tomorrow.

OH is watching football later so I’ll watch another couple of episodes of Amandaland.

Have a good evening.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 07-May-26 19:48:56

The head younger son gave me for my birthday has now got tulips in it!

Redcar Thu 07-May-26 21:01:41

Hello everyone. I’ve had a mixed day today, a quiet morning keeping DD1s dog company, then a drive across town to the dentist for a hygienist appointment, back to DD1’s just in time for the DGDs to arrive home from school. DD2 had collected them and came in with the 8 year old for a cup of tea. I looked after the 11 and 7 year olds and gave them dinner. I had a Cook mushroom risotto (sausage & mash would have been good).
DD1 and her DH arrived home at about 6.30, and I got home at 7.15!
It’s the most I’ve driven since my vertebral fractures in October and I’m pleased that I could do it. It’s not so much the actual driving, more the getting in and out of the car. I’m pleased and relieved to be able to help the DDs sometimes!

cornergran happy birthday for tomorrow! I hope you have a tasty breakfast and that you get to your favourite pier. 🥂🎂
The ongoing saga with the rats sounds awful and I hope the area manager can come up with some sort of solution to the problem. Fingers crossed your eye is less sore tomorrow.

grannmarie thank you for your concern. I’m fine most of the time, but it gets me sometimes as it does all of us.

jaxjacky I’m pleased you have your strimmer back! I don’t do no mow may, there are plenty of weeds
/wild flowers in the flower beds for pollinators to feast on!
Not sure if I’m imagining it but there don’t seem to be as many bees about this year, which is a bit concerning.

llfl the vase looks good with tulips too!

Thinking of those in the quiet corner this evening.

Night night everyone, sleep well.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 07-May-26 21:44:57

‘Evening All’

Another here who enjoyed sausages and mash for tea with fried onion gravy. Food of the gods! Obviously something in the air tonight.

Went with stepfather to his hospital appointment. He has a basal cell carcinoma on his face but as it’s adjacent to his eye it’s best removed the surgeon said. It will be done around October. He and I were happy with the clinical reassurance this afternoon.

Sorry to hear of your rat woes corner it must be anxiety inducing. And well done you Redcar with the drive over today. Love the vase LLFL but with flowers poking out at the head area it does make me think of those kits (potato heads?) which germinate cress or some such! 😁😁 “No mow May” would get my vote too Jax… (and ‘yay’ for a cancelled exercise class grannmarie as it was foisted on you - so guilt-free)
#lazygran

brook2704 Thu 07-May-26 22:18:24

A very Happy Birthday for tomorrow Corner I hope you have a lovely day and weekend celebrating with the family
We dropped the DGC off home after lunch, we didn’t get out anywhere this morning as they were both late up and were happy staying in having a lazy morning, suited us fine too. Once I was back home I finished packing my case as I’m away tomorrow for the weekend to Cambridge. The new strong antihistamines and other things that I got last week are much better for my hayfever so I’m taking enough for 4 days - I hope they work as well there with a different type of pollen - will see.. They do make me sleepy though
Sorry your class was cancelled grannmarie there’s always next week!
Love the vase llfl

Castle25 Thu 07-May-26 23:31:26

Sausage and mash here as well tonight. Comfort food. Had a lovely afternoon with dgd. She so chatty and loving just now. Every day is something new at this stage.

Grannmarie Fri 08-May-26 09:32:33

Many happy returns, Cornergran! Enjoy your birthday, your trip to the pier and your family meal on Saturday. 🎈 🎂🎉🥳💐

Safe travels to Cambridge, brook, enjoy your family visit and fingers crossed 🤞 that your anti histamines work well down south.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Wee Boy and his mummy and daddy this afternoon. He's had a very short week at school because of the holiday weekend, in service day and the voting.

Wishing everyone a pleasant Friday, TOYA.

Yiayia4 Fri 08-May-26 09:57:33

Morning Kitcheners.
Happy Birthday Cornergran enjoy your special day.🎁🎂🎉

We had a nice weekend despite DH being very low and grumpy, it was good having DS and Dil around. He wants to go to Corfu next month if his medics agree! Will be good if it helps is mood.
The good news, our eldest GS has just been offered an excellent apprenticeship that he’s excepted. We are all so pleased as he hated uni and has been looking for the right placement for sometime.
More good news Spiros had his best time in the Cattery. Its such a friendly homely place and the cats can mingle and play together during the day,he was sad to come home.🤣

You are doing so well Jax very pleased for you.

Safe trip Brook

Good wishes to you all happy Friday.
