I have taken the liberty to open a new kitchen.

Bubbles, friendship and support in abundance xxxxx

Hi kitchen friends, I’m home and tucked up in bed after a busy day out today volunteering. All went well with no problems, the trains on time and everyone showed up. I’m volunteering again tomorrow but only in Inverness, these sessions are like buses, nothing for a while and then they all come in the same week! Enjoyable and rewarding though
Sorry to hear Blossoming isn’t too good just now and is taking a break, hope things improve soon
The pictures are beautiful corner thanks for sharing
Hi grannmarie lovely to see you here, sorry to hear your massage sessions are ending though, hopefully something else will help,
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Frannygranny Wed 13-May-26 21:33:37

I’ve just caught up with the very sad news about Soop. She was a really kind caring Gransnetter and one of a kind. She PM’d me in the early days of GN and I’ll never forget her. Condolences to her family and all the other Gransnetters who knew her well. 💐

Jaxjacky Wed 13-May-26 19:41:47

Lovely pictures thanks corner
Ok news on the boiler Nannytopsy, could have been worse.
I’d forgotten how annoying a head cold is, dripping nose, muzzy head and cough, I slept this afternoon.
Blossoming posted on GM, she’s not well and will be absent for a while and there’s me moaning about a cold.
Just had another heavy shower battering the window, normal UK weather!
Enjoy your evening all.
👋👋 quiet corner, I think of baggs and soops family often.

Redcar Wed 13-May-26 19:39:09

Hello everyone, it’s cold here today too and we’ve had a few short showers which haven’t done anything towards wetting the garden! I managed some weeding this morning and started to empty some pots where the bulbs had finished. I’ll plant them up soon with summer flowers but will no doubt whinge to myself when I have to keep them watered in the summer.

nannytopsy I’m pleased that your boiler problem was easily fixed! The thermostat for my underfloor heating in the bathroom always goes haywire when we have power cuts, no matter how brief they are. I’ve had to reset it so many times I can do it without reference to the manual.

grannmarie what shame your massage therapist is retiring and not being replaced. The massages have obviously been very beneficial for you. I could cope with my garden until about two years ago, but struggle now. My garden man has already made it look tidier, after just a few hours work.

Lovely photos cornergran, you must have been relieved to find your way to the rhododendron wood using a real map!

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.

Grannmarie Wed 13-May-26 18:34:25

Enjoy your glass of wine, GrannySomerset!

Grannmarie Wed 13-May-26 18:32:14

Hello 👋 lovely Kitchen people! 🥰

A cold day with heavy showers, my heating is still on, around 19 like yours, Tilly.

Hope your boiler is working ok now Nannytopsy. The story of your wee ones mage me smile!😊

GrannyGravy, sorry to hear about your knee. What a disappointment. My late DH was told the same about his hip but he was still in a lot of pain.

FGT, I'm glad to hear that you're booked to fly to your special place, another 'first', well done, you are very brave. ❤️ I haven't managed to revisit our favourite holiday places yet...

Jaxjacky, sorry to hear that you're a bit under the weather, hope you feel much better soon. Remember, I always recommend a purely medicinal hot toddy for those symptoms!

brook, I hope your Aberdeen volunteering went well today and your journey there and back was okay.

Redcar, I hope the 'garden man' does a good job for you. I have a reliable man coming to pressure wash the walls at the weekend. We used to do these jobs ourselves, once upon a time...

Lovely rhododendron photos, Cornergran, I'm glad you enjoyed your drive out.

I guess those were "indoor stockings", Charleygirl ! What a shame.

I'm thinking of Blossoming, hope we hear from her soon. I enjoy her photos of their lovely walks.

Thinking of all with illness, worries or sorrow. Hope all went well for Dragonfly's DH.

Usual Wednesday here, I took my friend to Mass and Coffee Morning, she really enjoys getting out and about, so good for her spirits. Then I had my last massage at the surgery. Our lovely Massage Therapist retires next week and isn't being replaced. I'll miss her and her ministrations, they have really helped with my achy, arthritic shoulders.

Mince and tatties, carrots and onions tonight, a traditional cold day dinner! Hope Grandmabatty has had a restful day after all her busyness with the boys and the school.

Hello 👋 monami, are you new to GN? You are very welcome to the Kitchen.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening, TOYA.

GrannySomerset Wed 13-May-26 18:17:42

Excellent singing group this afternoon - we work really hard for two hours so come home nicely tired but having achieved something. I too am making bottom of the fridge soup as various veg look a bit past their prime but will be delicious when combined. This cold weather is a disappointment but we are promised warmer next week and will probably be complaining about that. Meanwhile I have earned a glass of wine while the soup simmers.

Grandmabatty Wed 13-May-26 18:09:22

Good evening kitchen folk. It has been a quiet day in Batty Towers. I have done very little but im alright with that. I've just had a bottom of the fridge stir fry with pork in a hoisin sauce and rice. It was surprisingly tasty. The heating has gone on as it has been cold and there's rain too. NannyTopsy fingers crossed for your thermostat and your poorly dh

Nannytopsy Wed 13-May-26 17:39:06

Evening all! (Sorry FGT! )
The boiler problem turned out to be a thermostat problem. One which controls only towel radiators had reset itself following a power cut last week. Normal service resumed for not too many pennies! If it happens again, we’ll get it replaced. It’s a fiddly old thing.
Very chilly here and DH has a tummy bug. I think he might have got it at a restaurant last night - he ate different foods to all the rest of us.
WI this evening, so admin this afternoon and baking.
Enjoy your evenings

Jaxjacky Wed 13-May-26 16:41:19

As the title says monami a place, virtual kitchen, for friends to drop in and share our lives, give support and hugs in good times and bad. All are welcome.

monami Wed 13-May-26 16:01:52

who are these people

Charleygirl5 Wed 13-May-26 12:00:16

As so GtannyGravy if you are mobile you obviously don't have any pain. Have you to be wheelchair bound to access their ridiculous services?

I had compression stockings fitted by a District Nurse, male. Too bulky, couldn't get shoes on so told to wear slippers. Fine in the house but not walking to the bus stop etc. I did say what a stupid idea that was. (my slippers didn't fit either)!

cornergran Tue 12-May-26 23:43:05

We managed to find a rhododendron wood today. without getting in a muddle over the route. The last attempts were fraught, this year easy peasy. How did we do it? Ditched the satnav obsessed with single track lanes and used an old fashioned map smile.

A couple of photos which I hope you’ll enjoy

Hope blossoming is resting and dragonflies husband had a good outcome. You did well with that appointment redcar. That sounds very organised fgt, dont put yourself down, even in fun. Good job you weren’t out in those hailstones brook, they look as if they could bruise. Good luck with the boiler repair nannyt, it’s been cold enough for heating here this evening.

Night, night everyone. Sleep tight.

Redcar Tue 12-May-26 22:22:37

A successful day for you fgt, well done!

I had a fairly early start as I needed to join the 8 o’clock scramble for an appointment to see someone at the surgery. I saw a senior nurse practitioner who was lovely! I’d never seen the car park so busy but managed to get myself into a space eventually.
I walked to the pharmacy in my village before lunch to collect the prescription but the computer was down, so I had to go back late afternoon for it. Feeling tired this evening!

grannygravy a shame you can’t get any nhs help for your knee.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner this evening.

Night night everyone, sleep tight.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 12-May-26 20:26:15

Bummer GG13 ☹️

‘Evening All’

I’ve had a busy day (for me - the bar is low).

Nipped down to the pharmacy below at 9:15am to ask if I could have a covid jab ✔️

Rang up & sorted annual travel insurance. ✔️
Bought euros on line from the Post Office (slightly better rate that way) and collected them at 4pm ✔️

Walked down to the dental surgery and had a cracked filling repaired ✔️

Then stocked up my food cupboards from my larder below ✔️

Another here thinking of Blossoming this evening and also of dragonfly whose husband was attending for an MRI scan today.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 12-May-26 18:31:26

Well my phone appointment about my knee was a waste of time (theirs and mine)
Apparently I am too mobile to access NHS services 😡

Down goes the bank balance…

brook2704 Tue 12-May-26 18:18:46

Thanks for the reminder Jax, I too hope that Blossoming is doing ok

Jaxjacky Tue 12-May-26 18:04:56

Hi all, thanks brook explained more today, sore throat and bunged up nose, this socialising after a few months of isolation!
That’s mega hailstones, good luck tomorrow.
I finished off the admin from yesterday this morning, a short walk - wrapped up - and made chicken casserole for tomorrow. I do hope your boiler is better Nannytopsy, our heating came on this morning again, we had a light frost.
Thinking of Blossoming she wasn’t too good yesterday.
My ⚽️ team playing tonight 🤞
Enjoy your evening all.

brook2704 Tue 12-May-26 17:47:49

Hi kitchen friends it’s been a cool blustery day here in Inverness, we definitely needed our coats. Hope your boiler is fixed soon nannytopsy
I had a volunteering session this morning and then DH and I went out for coffee, we were sat near the window at the local garden centre when there was a hailstorm, didn’t last long thank goodness! Tomorrow there’s a full days volunteering over in Aberdeen, we’re helping out with the final exams so it’ll be a long busy day 😞
Hope the massage was good yesterday fgt you deserve it
You’re doing so well Jax, I guess you’ll have some slower days though, take it easy still if you can ❤️
Redcar hope you can get your appt sorted soon
Hoping everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, thinking especially of those facing difficult times, take care all x

Nannytopsy Mon 11-May-26 21:11:04

There was cake left! Just a bit seconds hand! And no, we didn’t keep a straight face. 🤣. The mums did the telling off!
Our boiler is on the blink so no heating today - just about to get a blanket. The engineer may get to us tomorrow or Wednesday. Luckily we are out tomorrow!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 11-May-26 20:32:42

‘Evening All’

Chair yoga was really good today - I stretch more now and wobble less (we do the last ten minutes standing up beside our chairs) and then this afternoon I treated myself to a full body massage. It is expensive for an hour but it was bluddy wonderful.

I walked there and back in the sunshine too so an hour of decent exercise. I should sleep well tonight!

Jaxjacky Mon 11-May-26 20:26:17

Oh dear Nannytopsy did you keep a straight face?
A very chilly day here, our heating came on this morning potatoes are now covered against frost tonight, vagaries of our climate!
Voluntary phone today, but I was so tired all day, my recovery seems like that, a few really good days then pow, hope a :good sleep will sort it. I’ll need to finish up tomorrow.

Redcar Mon 11-May-26 20:19:52

What a cold day today, the heating came on this morning and has been on again this evening, despite the sunshine. We had a shower late morning, most welcome but not enough to do any good. I met a friend at Hyde Hall RHS garden this morning and it rained as we were leaving. There was more rain there than at home.
The chap who was coming to do some gardening for me wasn’t able to come, but will hopefully be here in the morning.

nannytopsy was there any chocolate cake left after the children had sampled it?

This afternoon I had to make a phone call to the hospital to try to arrange an infusion of an osteoporosis drug. The consultant had told me to phone a particular department to arrange an appointment, but that department said the consultant would arrange it, I’m confused now! Hopefully someone will send me an appointment!

Enjoy the rest of the evening folks.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 11-May-26 19:13:15

Just back from the hospital where I have had a Dexa scan. I got there early and was in and out before my appointment time.

DH has started the dinner. The Imp was fed before I went and is amusing himself with Lego.

Children and chocolate cake…

TillyTrotter Mon 11-May-26 18:21:39

Chocolate cake is pretty irresistible to children . 🍰
