Good morning Mick and all GN's from a wet chilly grey and breezy day in North Yorkshire. No sign of any sun and looks like a day to catch up with jobs inside.
I had a horrible day yesterday, and it didnt improve physically either. When the day starts badly I have had to learn not to push myself but go with the flow, and usually after a shower and coffee and a slow start things improve. I have to work the balance of moving about and doing some stretches etc and sitting down when I need to. Whatever I tried to do, didnt work yesterday and it was very frustrating .
I had planned to go to the market on the yellow peril but felt so awful that I gave up that plan, and only went to Tesco in the car, used their buggy to get the basic requirements and the Yorkshire Post and came home. I had to leave stuff in the car until I felt able to get it out, but no frozen stuff so it didnt matter. The rubbish day continued and the best I could manage was to at least get washed up and the kitchen tidy, but even abandoned planned cooking and got some cooked mince that I had in the freezer and that at least made me something decent to eat and warming.
I spent some time looking at the grand national runners and then watched it on tv. Many years ago I used to ride out for someone and followed racing and any horse things . Going to school in Beverley, we had the race course there and in this area of north Yorkshire there are quite a lot of racing stables and racecourses. But these days I dont attempt to go to them in person, cant do the walking about. The liverpudlians really make a great time of the National and I like seeing all the various groups making the most of their outings, whether it is ladies wearing their very best outfits and hats or the syndicates proud of their horses. I remember when they brought the Ascot race meeting to York and what a buzz it was then. It is cheering to see people determined to enjoy their special day out, given the doom and gloom in the world at the moment. I dont see it as "fiddling while Rome burns" but "we wont be beaten and will find something special to enjoy" So I watched the race, but hadnt put any bet on , but had hoped that Panic Attic - the mare - would be in the running and was sorry she went so early.
Anyway the racing and the paper kept me interested and I could kid myself that I was choosing to do that rather than I flipping couldnt do anything else. Despite doing very little I felt exhausted and went to bed early, but still had a rotten night, if I turned over in my sleep the pain would wake me up so I cant say I feel much better. However I have Bach before 7 and Private Passions to look forward to on the radio, and if it clears up I shall go outside for a breath of fresh air at least. If the sun comes out and the day warms up I shall put a chair outside and sit out with a book to read. I am trying to get out in any sunshine there is as I am having to take vitamin D and so need to get what sunshine I can. Good excuse to get out if there is any about. Shant hold my breath! Well with no plans anything will be a bonus.
Mick, hope your cycling is worth watching. I used to love Jersey Royals and my husbands birthday used to be the first time for them as a treat. They had a very special taste , quite different from any others and yes I think it was the seaweed. I have been disappointed these last few years , when I have bought them as dont think they are as special. Dont know if they are treating them differently now or it is my tastebuds but dont find them so good, but ah yes which is best, simply boiled with lots of butter or made into a lovely potato salad. GrandMattie you will be sick of pennant sewing but your cake sounds lovely and I wish you a happy birthday for the day it arrives. Bellasnana thank you for your good wishes and I am with you, jobs can be put on the back burner if you have the chance to see friends. Wish we could have some of your sunshine here today.
Well wishing everyone a peaceful and pleasant sunday, and a chance to see more blossom and flowers to remind us things will get better.
