What good news šŸ‘

I believe they stab the bull before it goes into the ring just for starters ā˜¹ļø

Animal cruelty cannot be used as entertainment in my view.

PS the bull’s horn went up his rectum. I saw the photo of this today.

I agree it should be banned Basgetti but does that excuse people saying good and putting emojis. Why rejoice in it. A man will never be the same again.

Gloating over any suffering, to humans or animals, is abhorrent. And says a lot about the people who delight in the pain of others.

It certainly does.

I agree.

The matadot's views are not shared by me but the injury sounds dreadful. He is, however, recovering. I hope the bull is ok too.

Apparently 77% of Spanish citizens are against the practice of bull-fighting so why it continues I do not know.

Same for all the sports that still use animals in this country- horse racing, hunting, shooting and fishing etc. Are we nicer to our animals? More often there is no chance that they would injure us that badly...man v bull seems a bit better matched than man v fish.

Spain is a different country: they do things differently there. I remember some years ago in Cordoba on Easter Sunday the traditional procession pausing at the statue of Manoletti the famous billfighter.

Cardamom Tue 21-Apr-26 23:12:09

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Matador take note.

Grantanow Tue 21-Apr-26 23:13:09

I should have written Manolete, not Manoletti.

Sadgrandma Tue 21-Apr-26 23:14:04

It should never have happened. Cruel sport. How can anyone enjoy watching an animal being tortured and a man being mauled. It's beyond me.

He knew the risks.

I deplore bull fighting.
However I am with rafichagran and Rosie. We all know the bull had no choice but the matador did ! That is no reason to revel in such a serious injury !!!! Rejoicing in the matadors pain is disgraceful.

Why are matadors always male?

Rosie51 Wed 22-Apr-26 01:20:00

Basgetti yes we know the matador knew the risks, so does a mountain climber, sky diver, or racing driver. I recognise none of those involve animal cruelty but would you dismiss serious injury or death to any of them with "they knew the risks"? If not why not? Does the animal cruelty aspect absolve everyone of common human decency?

NotSpaghetti Wed 22-Apr-26 05:09:59

Is this the incident where he was unloading the bulls ahead of the "fight"?

argymargy Wed 22-Apr-26 06:40:18

ā€œDeath in the Afternoonā€ by Ernest Hemingway is a forensic study of the culture of bullfighting. Fascinating as well as horrifying in many ways. Worth a read if you’re interested in other cultures rather than just dismissing them for being different from ours.

There are female matadors, but they struggle to get the recognition their male counterparts have.

Allsorts Wed 22-Apr-26 06:55:29

Its a cultural thing, a spectacle watched by many, that should be stopped. How can anyone watch it? The Matadors know the risks and that Matador so badly damaged, is someone's son who is now paying the price. The poor bull had no chance.

Mollygo Wed 22-Apr-26 07:21:51

Saying he knew the risks means you can celebrate his pain? Basgetti

Do you apply that to all sports or other walks of life?

Iam64 Wed 22-Apr-26 07:45:06

It’s a hideous barbaric way to treat any. Rearuee. It should bebsnned

The difference is that none of those activities you mention involve deliberately inflicting cruelty on another being. So no, I have no sympathy whatsoever for matadors injured or killed in pursuit of their barbaric 'sport'. If someone tortured an animal in a similar way in this country, would people brush it aside as just 'tradition'?

BlueBelle Wed 22-Apr-26 07:59:44

Rafiachain you say I agree it should be banned Basgetti but does that excuse people saying good and putting emojis. Why rejoice in it. A man will never be the same again

I for one am glad the man will never be the same again that’s the risk he took and this time he lost how many bulls has he tormented, hurt and killed in his ā€˜career’ The bull had no choice. Perhaps there’s a tiny chance it might make someone else think and withdraw from this cruelest of cruel spectaculars IT IS NOT A SPORT, a sport is equal in nature
I cannot believe people go to watch an animal be goaded, stabbed and killed in the vilest of ways and anyone who defends this cruel spectacle is as bad as the matador because without supporters it would not exist.

TheWeirdoAgain60 Wed 22-Apr-26 08:50:41

HA HA HA! The bull did a brilliant job!

Smileless2012 Wed 22-Apr-26 08:51:01

I agree BlueBelle and if I'm disgraceful because I have no sympathy for the Matador; so be it.

keepcalmandcavachon Wed 22-Apr-26 08:56:58

A medieval 'entertainment'. Revolting, in a country with so much art and culture to be proud of too! This must be abbhorent to most of the poputation of Spain surely?

NotSpaghetti Wed 22-Apr-26 09:34:15

I thought it was in Portugal?
