I have always been a loyal supporter of the Royal family in my 88 years on this planet and it saddens me that so much sadness has been given in recent years by some of them and i wish that the media could refrain from mentioning Andrew or Harry and their clan when ever they follow the King and the rest of the royals doing their duties ,the King has only got to go to church and the media says of coarse Andrew is not there, who cares

Not sure what you mean.
I deleted the one I had from Elon Musk.

grin

I know what they mean, I’ve exchanged a couple of PMs with others on here, some delete their messages once we’ve had our exchange, others don’t. Personal choice, I don’t delete mine. flowers

My oldest son thinks that they should sell a vast proportion of their properties, most of the Crown Jewels and give the land back to the people.

Quite how that would work I don’t know, monies from properties and jewels to be split across all county councils to help local communities.

He does has a point. They do own a considerable amount of extremely large properties and a lot of land!

Someone sent me PMs recently. Then deleted them. Odd.

Probably PM'd you in the evening when they'd had a glass or so of wine, then deleted when they were feeling more reticent / sober.

The king does not own the Crown Jewels

The king does not own the Crown Jewels

Who does “own” them?

henetha Sat 25-Apr-26 19:34:52

Nobody owns them. They belong to the state.

Your son perhaps should do some more research.

Most of their properties don't belong to them. However, why should those they own privately be sold any more than my home be sold and the money given to whichever people?
What about those unoccupied mansions in the UK bought by oligarchs? How does he feel about those?
Billionaires who pay no tax?

All state opened property , used exclusively by the royal family. along with the jewellery worn by them is actually a kind of theft.
It was taken by their ancestors from the people.
I have no time for the royal family and their entitlement, they are normal people like the rest of us.
Conceived in the same way, born in the same way live and die in the same way.
I do not believe in the king/ queen being sanctified by God at the coronation.
All to keep us in our place and to see people bow or curtsy makes me cringe.

Anniebach Sat 25-Apr-26 22:40:30

A kind of theft ? , surely theft is theft.

Does anyone believe the royal family are conceived differently to the rest of other human beings ?

Oh dear, that sounds very bitter.
And not strictly true either.

I think the Royal family is part of a long tradition and I would be very sad to see it go. Looking at the calibre of leaders and politicians around just now I think it would be a huge mistake. What I do believe is that only the King, Queen and their immediate heirs should be part of it, not the extended family. I think King Charles is a good man and I like Camilla, too. I also think William will make a good King one day.
Jealousy is a curse, I feel no envy whatsoever towards their family and don’t envy them the constant limelight.

The children are the future of the monarchy Luckygirl.

If they want it to survive and thrive, it’s no good hiding them away until they are adults, then expect the public to acknowledge their role.

It’s a very privileged life to be born into, with all the ups and downs that entails, but that’s life.

But they are simply children .... I do not think they should have their childhood disrupted by media interest. We do not have the right to demand our curiosity satisfied at the expense of their childhoods.

Fair enough when they are adults and if they then choose to stay with the firm.

Because the IP reads like AI.

If you think that reads as AI you have a lot to learn.
There is a clue in the OP that tells you it’s genuine.

Well I hope the security is improved this week.

Usedtobeblonde Sun 26-Apr-26 08:40:27

I am far from being a bitter person.
I have a good sense of humour which I think I share in my posts on GN.
I just happen to have strong views on privilege and entitlement.
No one should need to show subservience to another, we are all created equal.
I believe in fairness in all aspects of life.
I am sad that I come across in any other way.

It doesn’t read like AI at all, it’s a totally genuine post. Just laugh it off gillsterry don’t be offended.
I agree with you that all the calling out by reporters about Andrew and Harry and media attention is getting tiresome.

MartavTaurus Sun 26-Apr-26 09:00:46

I do not think they should have their childhood disrupted by media interest.

They do not have their childhood overly disrupted on a daily basis. Admittedly they have to turn out for royal events which are a right pain sometimes, but George actually enjoys going to watch football with his dad, and Charlotte tennis with their parents in their working rôles.

Do you know the families? How is our curiosity satisfied at the expense of their childhood? I have a colleague at a school royal children attend, and you wouldn't know who the children were. There is no media interest allowed, visitors are respectful, and it's daily school business as normal, (with a bit of added security involved).

Their childhood is far less disrupted than that of many other children's. Even when the royal children are exposed by the parents, like in the videos of Catherine's recovery, I think it's fine to show the whole family together showing their support.

I am going to my first Republic Day Rally in Cardiff in May and my daughter and granddaughter said they will come along too. There will be speeches music and I've never visited Cardiff so lots to see too.

Republic have a Rally in London and Edinburgh on the day with a March for the first time along the Mall to Buckingham Palace to ask What did they know about Andrew, apparently Charles knew about Andrew’s carry ons the author historian Andrew Lownie maintains but there's been a cover up.

eazybee Sun 26-Apr-26 09:15:58

Decent families don't go about exposing the 'carry-ons' of their members. That is left to people like Andrew Lownie, who seems to focus on the seamier side of royal history aimed at the lowest common denominator.

Yes fairness, very important.

We are stuck woth the RF for the forseeable. I wish they would spread their vast wealth to others.

Aveline Sun 26-Apr-26 10:00:10

How did you know that they don't? They are very discreet.

Anniebach Sun 26-Apr-26 10:13:28

Andrew Lownie said the late Queen was gaga at the end of her life !

Royal history has been seamier for centuries.

eazybee Sun 26-Apr-26 10:26:39

Family history has always been seamy, but family members generally do not broadcast the distressing details, as the poster seemed to expect Charles to have done about his brother.
