which is so persistent it is breaking through everything else, voices, music, even upon waking, it isn’t even someone in my playlist, but the background to something on youtube which I cannot even recall, a narrative song which intrigued m, so explored
I have only myself to blame…

My worst one ever was Cliff Richards ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ which lasted for weeks, an awful time, I was nearly demented

anyone else?

the subliminal influence of current popular songs excepted

Yes. This week it's ELO Wild West Hero. Luckily I do like ELO.

Fernando

It's not the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, is it?

I have "I've Got a Brand New Combine Harvester" by the Wurzels invading my ear at the moment. Can it get any worse?

I also revert to an annoying tune that I can't identify sometimes. It sounds a bit like a German/Hungarian folk dance but I have no idea what it is.

I love Wild West Hero (well, ELO, full stop), but what made me live it even more was a story I heard many years ago on Radio Sheffield when they had a Music Day. Someone emailed in to say that they had been on the verge of suicide when that song came on the radio. They listened to the song and something in the words made them change their mind and they decided against committing suicide. It just shows how powerful a song or a piece of writing can be. I loved the song even more after hearing that. I’d love to be able to tell Jeff Lynne that story. Sorry, I’ve gone completely off topic there! My own ear worm is usually something like Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep that I catch a snatch of on the radio grin

For some reason I often have hymns as earworms. My latest is Way far beyond Jordan and I can only remember a few lines.

The one I have had for weeks goes 'What do you get when you kiss a guy? You get enough germs to catch pneumonia, and after you do he'll never phone yer. I'm never gonna fall in love again.' The rhyming amuses me but I am fed up with having it on my mind day and night.

I have 2 at the moment. One is Valerie (or Valerrrreeee) which we are practising at choir. The other is 'Go Steady' by Sam Ryder which makes me want to cry.

I frequently have hymns as my earworms but lately it’s been ‘stately as a galleon she sailed across the floor, doing the military two step as in the days of yore’. I don’t remember much more which is so annoying!

I had 'The Road To Marrakesh' by Crosby, Stills and Nash literally going round in my head for weeks.

Hope it doesn't come back now I have typed this.

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Forgive our foolish ways

Quite frequently now!

Valerrrrreee is really catchy isn’t it?

That could be my fault - in the Get/Got thread 😁

Golden slumbers sung from Paul McCartney it’s been going round in my head for 2 days now !

kittylester Mon 27-Apr-26 17:31:00

I had that one for a while, Hiraeth.

Mine, which I have had ever since watching a film with John Wayne in it called The Horse Soldiers is “The Bonny Blue Flag”. It’s always there in the background and I don’t even realise I’m humming along to it. I wish it was a tune I had always been fond of but it isn’t and I’m stuck with it!

Casdon Mon 27-Apr-26 18:02:01

An interesting thread, it’s interesting to see what earworm other people get. I love music, and listen to a lot, but for some reason Greensleeves is a permanent earworm for me, it has been since I heard it first when I was eight or nine - it’s very annoying, I try never to hear it.

At the moment I’ve also got Whatever by Oasis going through my head at random moments, don’t know why, as I don’t think I’ve heard it lately.

Celieanne86 Mon 27-Apr-26 19:46:57

At the moment driving me mad is Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour dream coat, it’s just the first verse which luckily I know the words to. A couple of weeks ago I was tormented by drums, day and night, the Rythm and volume was so bad I sent for British Gas to check the boiler as I thought it was that banging, it wasn’t, the engineer said the only noise he could hear was the humming of the fridge, lucky him.

Magenta8 Tue 28-Apr-26 07:31:24

Today it is "The Old Grey Goose is Dead" Ugh!

Oreo Tue 28-Apr-26 08:11:28

Just be glad it isn’t The Chicken Song 🎶😂
