I agree with Merlotgran as well, the angle of the photo is strange, it’s hard to tell who the legs belong to and is altogether
too relaxed for a good public photo.
There’s a middle way between the usual stuffed shirt look and this one imo.

Oh, I forgot to say, even the dog looks like its having fun!

The photo was taken by someone else, not Catherine.

I think it’s a lovely relaxed, happy photo.

Reminds me of the photos we used to see of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip having picnics or barbeques on the Scottish hills.

Personally I prefer to see proper formal photos. This is one for the family album.

Instantly reminded me of a Famous Five book cover ( which I'm sure was the photographers or Wales' intent) . Perhaps that should become their nickname , the Famous Five, in life and in wholesome adventurous spirit!

They are newsworthy and many people want to hear and see photos of them.

They clearly have one photo session every holiday and then use those photos for all events until the next holiday. This set of snaps included the ones released for prince Louis's birthday. A clever mix of gaving the photos when needed without subjecting their children to endless photo calls.

I like the idea of a family photo at holiday times, but I don't think this is a good photo.
One for the family album but not general release. Running about on a beach or paddling would have been more to my interest with their dog rushing around.

I would like to hear what other professional photographers say about the composition.

I love the photo - it makes me sad that my DS's marriage is not so successful!
