If you drive, do you prefer to give lifts or be the recipient of lifts?

I am always happy to drive and give lifts to other people but some times I end up being the passenger. Which is ok generally but, last week I was given a lift to the pub by a friend which was quite scary as she seems to be losing the capacity to think peripherally. Luckily we arrived home safely. But, I think I will stick to my car in future.

My Mum has dementia & she accepts lifts from all manner of people, people in their 90's from the old-peoples club, etc but I have terrible trouble getting her in the car with me to go to a Drs appointment or visit relatives. I drive 70 miles to see her & then she worries about me driving her a mile on a lovely quiet road to the village shop. It's almost certainly because she remembers teaching me to drive, & has forgotten that was nearly 50 years ago. The most annoying thing is that, at the end of a trip, she always says thanks for driving so carefully & well, but by next morning she has forgotten & seems to expect a Starsky & Hutch-style drive again.
