Good morning from a clear Bristol. The change from cold to hot has been so sudden, hasn’t it? Very odd .
We were told that our Spanish class would be cancelled as from next September as there was too little take up. That’s very sad. And there isn’t another class at this level.
In the afternoon, I cut back the wallflowers, and cut a branch off the Choisya. I shall keep them low.
As it was so lovely - perfect in fact, with a gentle breeze - I sat outside and invited other residents to join me. Only one did.
Thank you all for your kind words re. the diabetes diagnosis. I’m still very annoyed and feel that my normally trust body has let me down although I’ve been kind to it. 🙄
FGT, it seems that you are finding your feet in Malaga. I’m glad you are enjoying yourself and seeing your friends. It’s an excellent idea to visit in spring and autumn. They are my favourite seasons.
Only church coffee this morning. I may do some sewing.
Have a lovely BH weekend which will unusually be fine.

Good morning from Malta where another sunny day is forecast wth a high of 31°C.

I have had another awful night with so many thoughts swirling through my brain. Made my tea at 4.30 again.🙄

Went for my hair appointment and listened to my lovely hairdresser telling me about her diagnosis of colon cancer. She’s being incredibly brave but obviously shocked. They certainly pulled out all the stops regarding tests , scans etc and have assured her it has not spread so the prognosis is very hopeful.

She hasn’t told her two daughters yet (13 and 9) as the elder of the two has to go in for spinal surgery on 1st June. Honestly, why do these things happen one on top of another? Fortunately she has a very supportive husband and close family plus many friends all rooting for her, myself included.

I had the boys in the afternoon, we played all sorts of games, read dinosaur books and laughed a lot before their mum came for them at 6.30.

I’m meeting my lovely, positive friend this morning at 9 am! She loves an early start and, since I’m not sleeping well, it’s no trouble getting up. Also easier to walk to the village before the sun gets too hot.

That’s sad about your Spanish class not being continued, grandMattie, especially as there doesn’t seem to be an alternative.😞

DGD in Tennessee has finished her ‘sophomore’ year and is now half way through high school. She now has a packed schedule of softball during the summer break starting with a camping event where no mobile phones are allowed. It looks a fabulous spot and they seem to be a lovely group of friends on her team, they all encourage each other which is nice to see.

Hoping you all have an enjoyable weekend and make the most of the pleasant weather.☀️

grandMattie Sat 23-May-26 05:45:03

Enjoy being with your friend, bellas. Going early is a good idea; I don’t like being too hot!
Sounds like your DGD is excellent with her sport; does she want to do it semi/professionally?

Morning Mick, morning All. A clear sky over our corner of Somerset.

We enjoyed a coffee and a sit for an hour by the sea wall yesterday before heading to a garden centre to finish plant gathering. Two large tubs and four small troughs were planted late afternoon when there was some shade.

We’re heading out for a journey on an open topped bus this morning. Something we’ve not done for years, later it will be back home to our cool living room, maybe I’ll try a sit in the garden if there’s no sign of ratty. I’ve had a sleepless night fretting about a granddaughter and am pleased there’s nothing pressing that needs a brain! The rest of the weekend will be spent quietly at home.

Look after yourselves everyone. Have the best day you can.

Bellasnana Sat 23-May-26 05:55:16

Thank you grandMattie, she is hoping it will lead to a college scholarship. She wants to be an anaesthetist (or anaesthesiologist as they call it over there). She’s had straight A’s all year so we are very proud of her)

grandMattie Sat 23-May-26 06:10:06

bellas, good girl. Hope she gets a place and manages to reach her stars! 🤩

Good morning from a breezy but unsurprisingly clear-skyed Cornwall with heat predicted, unfortunately. I'll go out early and then hide under the trees in my wild wood. Actually I want to start digging out an area to extend where I sit up there so I may tackle that in the shade.

This week I've left my allotment for the last time and will miss my lovely ponds and herbs and globe artichokes and fruit bushes but I can't keep on top of it now. I'll start to travel more instead as I won't have to keep a weekly eye on it. I'd like to see more of our country as I've been abroad a lot in the past. I can use the Eden Project as a pretend garden; once you pay on your first visit the next year's visits are free. And their food is luscious!

Anyway, first of all today I'll travel on an early bus to B&Q's garden centre to see what herbs I can find for my patio. I'm glad most of you will enjoy the sun.

Morning all from a soon to be much warmer West Oxfordshire. Obviously I’m still in bed! I slept with just a sheet.

Yesterday’s talk on Holbein was very good. OH and I both belong to the local Arts Society and it is one of the few things we do together. I don’t shoot or beekeep, and he isn’t interested in the various arts courses I do. Anyway it was good to have breakfast first in an independent cafe. It is a real treat to have someone else prepare a cooked breakfast.

Today we are off to a nearby town where I will encourage OH to buy some new shirts in M&S. He hates buying clothes and wears things until they are practically falling apart. I need a new pillow. Many, many years ago I broke my neck in a motorcycle accident and always find it difficult to get the ‘right’ pillow.

I have booked lunch for us in an Italian restaurant. Afterwards, as our daughter is coming to stay tomorrow so we need to buy some provisions. We may have a barbecue on Monday.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from Sunnyside Sandhills northwest coast.
I enjoyed art yesterday, we had painting on silk, which is a bit fiddly, but my sister had liked one of my previous efforts, so I did a similar painting and will frame them for a gift.

It was nice to have lunch in the garden and generally enjoy the easier life this weather affords.
DD flies back from Greece today after a holiday with friends and DS is coming over later. I have my list of little jobs ready for him.

Sorry to hear about your hairdresser Bella, troubles often come that way and not as single spies to quote the Bard.
Thoughts to all 🌺

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is going to be hot today. Yesterday we had a blissful bit of cloud cover in the afternoon, though it didn’t cool things down much.
I went to the gym in the morning and followed that up with a visit to the garden centre on the way home as I wanted to buy some cosmos. I bought seeds to grow some this year but never got around to it. I also bought a lovely hosta which I will keep for DD until they have sorted out their new raised “shade” bed. I was tempted to keep it myself but the last thing I need is another hosta!

This morning I am out early with DD and SiL to go for a walk in the nearby Peak District before it gets really hot - and too busy to park - this afternoon. We will have breakfast at NT Longshaw visitor centre first. There should be clear views of the lovely Hope Valley today and maybe we will see deer - we did last time we went. It will be a very tame walk for my two “minders” but I can’t do all the “rough stuff” I used to do. I’m not a mountain goat any longer - just an old goat😏! I do miss the scrambles on our glorious gritstone edges. We are very lucky to have the National Park on the edge of our city.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Grandmabatty Sat 23-May-26 06:51:16

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and cloudy. No blue skies here! Marzipan I'm another shade lover. Bellasnana I could have joined you in the early hours as I didn't sleep well either. GrandMattie that's a pity about your Spanish class folding.
Yesterday I did some housework in the morning and made bread dough which I left proving while dd and I went to Stirling for afternoon tea. It was very nice and ds joined us. He told dd(eventually) about the baby. He seemed very nervous and didn't tell her until we had all finished eating. Dd was very complimentary and congratulated him and asked lots of questions. When she went home, she told the boys. Dgs1 is very excited about being a big cousin and fired off a list of names to his uncle. Dgs2 isn't bothered 😂 I made bread and it turned out well.
Today I have no plans. My usual Saturday breakfast companion called off, so I won't bother going. I'll do my usual Saturday housework and change the sheets etc. Have a good day all

Gagagran Sat 23-May-26 06:51:18

Good Morning all from another lovely morning on the central south coast. Not at peak heat here until Monday, according to the forecast and we have got the fans set up and into the blinds down routine already. My aches and pains have not dissipated much so far in the warmth but here's hoping!

Laundry is on the agenda this morning and other pottering tasks which always crop up.

Hope the day brings some ease and comfort to all strugglers with pain or worries of any kind. sunshine

BlueSapphire Sat 23-May-26 06:52:52

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton, a fine day forecast. Yesterday was also fine and very warm.

Was disturbed quite early and unexpectedly yesterday morning by the broadband engineers who had come to complete my 'Fullfibre' connection. They didn't need to come indoors to do it, and had finished in a very short time. They then advised me to ring BT to tell them it was done. Which I couldn't do in the morning as I was going to be out.

Went to Dance classes in the morning, the last for me for a few weeks, as we have two weeks off and I have my cataract surgery in about ten days time.
After dance I went with my friend to pick up our very elderly (92 yr old) lady to take her to the shops. We went to Costa first then to Sainsbury's where I did a top-up shop, and got home about 4 o'clock.

I then rang BT and spoke to a very nice man who sorted everything for me and made another appointment for next Tuesday for engineers to come and complete the inside broadband work.

Did very little after that except reheat some curry and rice and then watched the final three episodes of Bergerac.

Up early today as I have a booked a parcel collection with Royal Mail - I am returning the slow cooker I ordered last week as it didn't suit.

Early lunch then out to the theatre for a ballet matinee - the Birmingham Royal Ballet are performing.

Then it will be home to a nice steak dinner and🍷....

Wishing all a pleasant day in the sunshine.

Good morning from our holiday house in Yorkshire where the sun is shining.
The house is lovely , set in open fields and has every facility.
I can just hear the DGS getting up so I will join them for breakfast.
No plans for the day yet maybe a gentle one after the driving yesterday.
Wishing you all the best day possible, enjoy the warm weather.

brook2704 Sat 23-May-26 07:02:58

Good morning everyone from Basel in Switzerland, it looks like it’s going to be a very warm day
It’s a shame your Spanish class will finish gMattie no doubt you’ll miss it
Your poor hairdresser Bellas how worrying for her and her family
Thank you all so much for your kind messages yesterday, we arrived early afternoon after an easy flight from Edinburgh. We made our own way into the centre and sat for a while watching the world go by whilst waiting for DS to finish work and then meeting up at his apartment. We went out for drinks and then back to the apartment for dinner. Today we’re having a little walk beside the Rhine and then meeting his partners dad for lunch, he also lives over here.
Enjoy your bus trip today corner
You’ll miss your allotment marzipan but enjoy other things instead
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

RosieMezzo Sat 23-May-26 07:12:24

Good morning from West Sussex.
I was just thinking, GrandMattie, that your Spanish teacher might be willing to continue the class privately, with just a few of you.

Gingster Sat 23-May-26 07:15:26

Good morning all.
I won’t mention the weather as I know most of you love the heat.

Yesterday’s visitor was chatty and lovely. I had been worried it would be a tricky time with me trying to find conversation and Dh not being much help, but the hour passed quickly and he said he’d enjoyed seeing us.

Today ds1 and I are clearing out my small shed. It’s stuffed with things and I’m having trouble getting to my mower and freezer.
I was going to book a skip but DS says we can manage to take unwanted stuff to the tip . He’s booked a couple of tip times.

DH’s golf clubs, trolley and fishing gear will have to go in the loft. He’ll never use them again 😢, but doesn’t want to get rid.

I need to pop to the solicitor with paperwork for sale of cottage, but I’m not struggling up to town in the heat, so it will have to wait.

I hope you all enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend .☀️🥵

GrannyGravy13 Sat 23-May-26 07:19:50

Good morning from a glorious S E Essex.

I am taking the nearly 9yr old GD birthday shopping today at Lakeside. She told me last night what shops we are going to (H & M, River Island and Zara). I best wear my trainers.

GS 2 had an accident at school on Thursday, went into his Business Studies GCSE, was in so much pain he virtually passed out. DS rushed to the school took him to A & E, were they found he had broken his wrist, fortunately it’s his left one and he is right handed. Couldn’t have happened after his GGCSE’s 🤷‍♀️ poor thing.

Wishing you all a good Saturday.

Ashcombe Sat 23-May-26 07:22:04

A late good morning after we both slept in! Another hot day is expected which is tiring, especially for DH who is trying to manage gardening jobs.

Yesterday, I suffered some heart pain periodically which, added to my general lack of mobility due to arthritis, doesn’t make me a very useful partner and is worrying for DH. He hasn’t slept well whilst I’ve slept soundly.

Wishing everyone a happy weekend. 💐🦩🥰🦩💐

luluaugust Sat 23-May-26 07:24:26

Good morning from a warm W Kent. I intend to read in the garden, pop in some washing and make a curry that is about it
Best wishes

RosesandLilac Sat 23-May-26 07:26:39

Good morning, there’s high cloud above my hillside in south Glos, it was sunny earlier.
I happily pootled around very early yesterday in the garden, planted out the remaining bits and the courgettes (I grow them in a huge container). By 9 it was too warm so I showered and popped across the road to the lovely neighbour who has the most delightful year old twins. I had some children’s books that I no longer need to give her; she also has a beautiful 4 year old son.
Then I phoned the dentist which resulted in driving to a nearby town for an hour in the dentist chair. He’s cleverly rebuilt the tooth, fingers crossed it holds. My gum and lip were very numb thankfully, it was sore once the local anaesthetic wore off!
Tiddler and I spent the afternoon in the Shed, DH cleaned the pond pump and faffed around taking out pondweed. We have two resident frogs who seemed happy enough watching him from the lily pads. The 11 goldfish will be happy with his efforts I hope!
I don’t have anything planned now until Tuesday when it’s the opticians first thing and then a trip to the hospital late afternoon to have a basal cell lesion excavated from my leg. I’m not looking forward to getting there because I’ll go by bus because the parking is atrocious at the hospital.
Sending hugs to those struggling or having buggerations x
🌹

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 23-May-26 07:26:41

Good morning everybody from Málaga where we are forecast 31°C again. It’s not as fierce as it sounds! There is a lovely gentle breeze and it’s not humid which makes a big difference.

I’m going to stay near base again which suits me right now. I did think shall I wander up into Arroyo and have coffee and cake at La Canasta but I’m not sure I want to do what ‘we’ used to do quite yet.

I even enjoyed being in the supermecado yesterday - it’s so different to my larder at home!

So today I think I will carry on with my severe decluttering. My clothes 😮 today it’s time to be ruthless some I’ve had 20 years. Yesterday a friend came round and he brought his socket set and took down the tv, bracket and dvd player. I never use them. Without a fire stick which I can’t be bothered with, there’s only Spanish tv and as I’ve got WiFi, my iPad to access Netflix and Sky that’s good enough for me as I mostly read anyway.

Now time for my second TiB and to read all your posts. Enjoy the hot weather plume in the UK folks!

Grandmabatty Sat 23-May-26 07:27:30

Grannygravy I hope your dgs is ok. Poor soul. Ashcombe lots of rest today.
