I once asked how someone was, and was taken to task abouf how innapropriate i was for having asked.

Whether they are banned or simply stop contributing it seems this happens reasonably often. It is a shame ,particularly when someone who has been a ‘regular’ is banned and most of us have no idea what caused it. A recent person to be banned never, as far as I am aware, transgressed . Sometimes I think someone with opposing views complains and causes a banning quite unnecessarily and we are the poorer for it. It would be very boring indeed if we all held the same views on everything.

I have been on GN since about 6/9 months from the start.
I have only reported one poster many years ago.
She was banned several times as she kept coming back under new usernames.
She could be very rude and personal.
I can’t waste my time anymore and stay off politics and other such threads. Leads to a pleasant life.
Some who I have found out have been banned seemed to me to be absolutely fine in their posts.
We don’t know what goes in behind the scene.

Oh I have just found out who has been banned. Oh I am gutted. She was a lovely poster and hope she is reading. I am not getting into naming names but she will know who she is!
So have I Galaxy - appalling isn't it ?
I’m genuinely shocked. Like others I read grumpy imo goady few posts this morning. Thankfully, the report button wasn’t used . Surely we are all old enough to disagree without shouting or fallin out
How true 😥

How do you know that people have been banned rather than having just withdrawn? Xx
Because long standing members meet up and/or exchange email addresses
I am often slow on the uptake I think...
I have no idea who has been banned!
I tend to ignore the goady and I am always right posters
Unfortunately I didn’t yesterday and was immediately deleted for posting an emoji 🤦♀️
I am wary or naming names because that poster might not want us to talk about it.
Just for reference if ever I get banned please mention my name, go into mourning etc

😀😀 smacked botties!!
Reporters really do need to get a grip.
Whitewave, am glad you are here, do you know how it works? Do people just contact HQ and complain. I didn't see the thread in question so feel at a disadvantage. Honestly I know people have different relationships with different posters ( and I stress i didn't see the thread) but to me banning this particular poster is a bit like someone saying David Attenborough is a bad un.

You'd like to think so Iam64 - sad really but I think it says more about the ones reporting than the ones being banned.
To clarify I mean do you know how it works to get a suspension/ banning lifted? That last post made it sound as if I was asking advice on how to report!

It was a good one though GG13 - I had to enlarge it to see it, made me laugh 😂
I ignore the goady pedantic posters and miss GSM who disappeared
Personally, I am slowly in process of disappearing. I`m not dead, nor ill, nor banned but I do value my time and will not be spending much of it on GN
To report a post and not own up to it is cowardly and sneaky.
Tantamount to anonymous bullying

👍👍
On finding out who is the latest to be banned I am shocked and bewildered.
I don’t know what happened so can’t comment on the particular posts but always found the poster a reliable member of GN.

Well the banned person needs to lobby GCHQ and people on GN also need to lobby. But until that banned person gives permission to use her name - there is nothing posters can do really.
It does take a lot of heft, though GNHQ can be persuaded - they aren’t totally deaf or blind and neither are they frightened to reverse a decision.
I do respect their decisions though - they are not always wrong.
There are some GN's whose remarks can border on the patronising and insulting. They seem to think they have superior knowledge on certain subjects than us lesser mortals. However, a forum should be a place where everyone can feel free to have a say and have their views respected. Maybe some feel life is too short to have their posts rubbished by others.
Thanks whitewave, I will contact them. I don't know whether she wants people to name her or not so I am trying to be a bit discreet.
I would agree I have never found them to be frightened about changing their mind.
I don’t post as much at this time of year but now I’m getting worried about what I might have missed.
I like things to just stay the same these days. Life’s too short to rock the boat unless supporting somebody else who needs it.
Well I’m beyond shocked as this poster never to my knowledge posts anything in the least controversial and I hope if she does read this thread that I’m angry on her behalf and will contact HQ.
It’s true I don’t come on this thread every day nor read every thread but she is the least likely to ever be banned imo.
Personally I only report personal attacks or antisemitic or race hatred kind of posts.I know that this poster never did any comments of that kind.🤬
There was a really interesting discussion yesterday between two posters with opposing views. They both took the time and trouble to work through their opinions, and in a respectful way.
The end result seemed to be that both will probably retain their individual views, but that they had shown respect for the other poster's views.
Isn't this better than the frequent reporting and/or attempts to shut down and/or deliberately derail discussions that we see so frequently?
