Good morning from a dry, clear, bright Bristol. It’s hot and going to be hotter. Sigh.☹️
bellas, did you watch the tennis match where that poor young man collapse? I think it’s criminal to expect players of whatever sport to perform under such conditions.
Yesterday was interesting. I have arranged to meet a few GNetters in a cafe in north Bristol on Tuesday next week. I’ve never been there by bus and only visited twice before. I have got incredibly lost in Bristol and am very nervous of such events, especially if my bus app is ambiguous about the site of the stop.
So, I suggested to one of the AgeUK helpers that she should join GN and come with me. She’s lived in Bristol “forever” and knows the buses very well indeed! She’s now joined and we may well see her on this thread this morning. And, unless things change, we’re going to the meet-up together.
FAB cafe went well, people came to escape the heat.
We had a group meeting with our manager in the afternoon regarding repairs. Nothing has changed, nothing will. Everything depends on the budget but considering that nothing has been done in the 3 years I’ve been here, monies shouldn’t be so very tight! Sigh 😮‍💨
Today, I’ve got t’ai chi and dinner at DD’s.
Hope things improve with MD’s DH. Trust that you are all keeping safe in this unseasonal heat.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sky is what might be called “moody” at the moment. It is raining quite hard at the moment. I have been awake since about half past two, woken by what sounded like distant thunder. That was it then - no sleep in me.

Yesterday, after getting home from the library, I cut and trimmed the front lawn. Despite all the rain we had on Tuesday, the garden was parched so I had to give it a soaking last night.

I am supposed to be walking this morning, and then I will pick up GS, who is at home now for the holidays, and bring him back here. We have a job in the garden to finish that we started weeks ago but couldn’t finish and I promised I wouldn’t finish it without him. Trouble is now we have to work in an area that is full of rapidly growing plants which will make it very awkward. Still, nothing ventured. It will be good to have his company.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning from a slightly cooler Black Country where it rained overnight.

Walking group walk this morning along our local canal, so hopefully much cooler conditions.

MrJ's DD is hopefully having her operation today, after falling over in London and breaking her leg!

Good luck with the meet up gM we have them now and again in Birmingham and they are very pleasant, and it's good to put faces to names.

Wishing you all the best day possible

Good morning everyone from a cloudy Anglesey.
Sorry I've missed a couple of days.
The heat has meant the little chap waking early and being here on my own with him makes it difficult to post until too late in the day.

The weather has been amazing but it broke yesterday evening with a humdinger of a storm that lasted for hours. I'm used to them but the little chap was very spooked.
I had an evening of him cuddling me on the sofa reading his current favourite book over and over again. He finally settled about 11.30pm about 20 minutes after the last thunder so he's going to be tired today.

So frustrating about your building repairs, GrandMattie. At 1 time my mum considered moving to an apartment ( I think it was Anchor Homes) but she heard stories of the parent companies charging big service charges with little service to show for the fees. I'm sure they rely on people shrugging their shoulders and giving up.

Take care everyone. 🌞🌻

Good morning from Malta where it’s going to be sunny and 32°C.

I had a quiet day yesterday but enjoyed pottering about doing a bit of cleaning, and jobs around the house.

I did watch quite a bit of tennis but wasn’t watching the match where Mensik collapsed. He’s only 20 and had just won a five-setter in over four hours. I don’t know how they play in that heat.

I hope you enjoy your meet up grandMattie, very enterprising of you to set it all up and recruit a friend to go with you.

Hope all goes well with your step-daughter’s op today NannyJ.🙏🏻

I’ve got another day with no pressure to do anything nor go anywhere but I think I might go and buy a couple more plants.

Thoughts with you all, especially Marydoll . 🙏🏻

Wishing you all the best day possible.☀️

Good morning, the sun’s just coming over the horizon, pale skies and there’s a very noisy pigeon sitting on the gutter above my bedroom window.
I didn’t do much yesterday, it was less hot thankfully but my oomph was nonexistent 🙄
It’s going to be a bit cooler today so I’ll get the housework done without melting after I’ve taken tiddler out shortly. DH will walk bigger dog before it warms up.
I was messaging DDIL yesterday evening, she wants to have a go at embroidery so I will enjoy sharing my stash with her the next time they’re down.
I will probably spend some time in my Shed today, it’s been far too hot down there the last few days. Tiddler will join me 😍
Best wishes to you all 🌹

ld1963, our parent company is indeed Anchor. The fees are high but not outrageous. What is, is the neglect to the estate which has become very shabby and the “jam tomorrow” attitude of the upper management layers.
They have commissioned a contractor for the whole organisation. They are dreadful, and unfortunately there are another 2 years of the contract to go. This is instead of using local, known and reliable local traders. Grrr

A nice early good morning everybody from me in Málaga when it’s almost sunrise. I’m meeting a friend for lunch in Arroyo who used to live in Manchester. I haven’t seen her since Himself was first diagnosed so it will be a poignant catch up plus, she is in the process of divorcing her husband of many years who has sadly always ‘been a player’. They moved out here five years ago for yet another ‘fresh start’ but sadly leopards and spots come to mind

I took this pic last night of the lovely square in Torremolinos where the couple from Glasgow took me. It is near the Town Hall and looked so pretty bathed in the soft evening light … at 9pm! I was wearing a sleeveless dress and sandals it was so pleasant!

latedecember1963 Thu 28-May-26 06:10:02

Sounds like my mum's gut feeling served her well, GrandMattie.
Such a shame, because the apartment she looked at was ideal in many ways.

Good morning from La Sarthe where we have another hot day expected. Yesterday it clouded over as we dined outside in the evening but the relief from the heat was temporary.

Before it was too hot we drove to Bonnétable for DH to collect his repeat prescription. It was already 29 degrees, according to the car thermometer and reached the mid thirties in the afternoon yet again by which time we had retreated to the coolth of the house.

I was sorry to read of Marydoll’s DH’s health issues and hope the latest medication helps to reduce his BP. Such a worry!

I hope your stepdaughter’s operation goes well, NannyJan53.

Keep cool, those in the heat and a good day to all. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Gelisajams Thu 28-May-26 06:21:16

Good morning Mick and all from Morecambe Bay where we have had rain overnight and it feels a bit fresher. It’s set to be hot again today unfortunately. I’m suffering from itchy rashes which I assume are sweat rashes and insect bites on my leg. We both get a lot of tick bites during the summer since moving here, despite always fully covering up fully when outside.
I didn’t garden yesterday- I got a phone call saying don’t come it’s too hot! I didn’t argue, I was was feeling tired from the antihistamine and still very uncomfortable with the itching. We have rearranged for early Saturday. I usually have an ‘empty’ Saturday morning but not this week.
Today I’m off up the motorway again to Cumbria to meet another friend. Same venue as the other day but it makes an excellent meeting place with a little garden centre and gift shop to wander round when we tire of sitting.
DH will take Crazy dog by himself, then he will continue moving as much as he can upstairs so the carpet fitters can come tomorrow. If Crazy dog scratches the new carpet he’ll be looking for a new home! (Not really!)
As I write I can hear rumbling I think there is a thunderstorm in the distance.
Thinking of all with troubles. Take care everyone 🌸

cornergran Thu 28-May-26 06:33:20

Morning Mick, morning All from a sunny corner of Somerset.

No sign of much needed rain here. Dentist for us this morning, a grocery delivery later and that’s about it for today. Although it’s wonderful to see so much sun and beautiful blue skies we’re both struggling with the heat now and doing a lot of nothing.

Have the best day you can everyone.

brook2704 Thu 28-May-26 06:33:21

Good morning everyone from Arosa in Switzerland where it’s another gorgeous day
So good that you’re meeting up with some Gnetters next week gMattie, I hope you all have a great get together
Hope your step daughters op goes ok today nannyjan
Yesterday we did a circular route to see some beautiful waterfalls then sat at a mountain cafe with a gorgeous view from the terrace. Today we leave here, get the little mountain train down to Chur and then onto Pontresina where we’re staying a few nights. The journey is part of the Bernina Express scenic train route and although we’re not getting the panoramic train we’re hoping to see the gorgeous scenery on the way
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Gagagran Thu 28-May-26 06:42:26

Good Morning all from the central south coast where it is dry and sunny with a breeze. Think it may well be another hot one but I am hoping someone turns the thermostat down today. There is some high cloud at least, which might help!

I have really struggled with the heat, so much so that I didn't go to choir. I think we are well rehearsed enough and there are two more rehearsals to go before 13 June. My energy levels had hit zero by teatime.

DH enjoyed his Downs Link cycle ride but sensibly got the train back from Shoreham late afternoon. He finds it hard to accept that at almost 84 he can't do what he did 30 years and more ago. Today he is off to the tip with a car full of cardboard boxes etc.

Had a lovely surprise picture from the top of Snowdon in the afternoon, from DGD2- yes she made it and even remembered to let me know when she was safely back down! Isn't WhatsApp wonderful for keeping in contact?

Thinking of all GNs with troubles, worries or struggles of any kind and hoping for better news, especially from Marydoll and her DH.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 28-May-26 06:46:34

Good morning from a sunny, but slightly cooler S E Essex.

Off to the hairdresser first thing, high/low lights and a trim. This evening we re meeting some friends who we haven’t seen since before Christmas, it will be good to catch up.

Thinking of our Marydoll and her DH 🌼

Susan56 Thu 28-May-26 06:49:41

Good morning from Shropshire.Another scorcher ahead🥵

Slightly cooler overnight after a lengthy thunderstorm.

Drs this morning for both of us then shopping. This afternoon I will once again find the coolest spot in the house and read.I love the summer but unfortunately the medication I take means I have to avoid direct sunlight.

I really hope for better news from Marydoll today 🙏🏻

Thinking of our absent friends and all with worries and struggles.Wishing everyone the best day possible🌷🦩

Good morning from a sunny W Kent where I shall be attending art group, later we need a quickish visit to Bluewater.
Best wishes

harrigran Thu 28-May-26 06:54:37

Good morning from the NE where it has just started to rain, looked out and the sky is very stormy looking.
Yesterday was a quiet day until DS visited after work. He goes into the office before 7am and finishes at 3pm. I live twenty minutes from his office so he offered to take me shopping. We had dinner together and chatted for an hour or two then he left in time to say goodbye to GD1 who was driving back to her university home, we will not see her again until our holiday in July.
GD2 posted photos of her friend's birthday party, they painted pottery and then had afternoon tea at an hotel. The friend is returning to Hong Kong at the end of term and will be greatly missed by her peer group. She was in Durham while her brother was at university and he has graduated now.
I think I will have a quiet day, I have a novel I would like to finish and I end to file some paperwork.
Have a good day.

Good morning from a bright and sunny Suffolkwhere I think the temperature today will be similar to yesterday when it was 18 all day with a very pleasant breeze.

I’m about to go and water the pots in the back yard before doing a bit of essential admin and then off to my stretch class. I’m struggling with the need to register with HMRC and after not being able to complete the registration online,I resorted to phoning yesterday as advised on the website. After 45 minutes talking to 4 different people, all very pleasant but unable to help,I was told by the person on the online helpline that there was a problem with the website. She couldn’t tell me how long it would take to fix!

Small problem I know given the difficulties faced by some people on here but frustrating isn’t the word. Hope for a better result today. Meanwhile I hope all have their best day possibly in whatever circumstances you find yourselves.

Jaxjacky Thu 28-May-26 07:00:31

Morning from a couple of degrees cooler S Hants, the promised storms didn’t happen overnight sadly.
Yesterday was another day of doing little, 31 and humidity just too much. Picked up book club book, Billy Connolly, that’ll be fun!
We have my daughter and grandchildren here for bbq tonight.
Sounds lovely brook very fresh. Best wishes to your dil NannyJan.
Safe travels and a pleasant day to all.

Grandmabatty Thu 28-May-26 07:01:53

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° with hazy sunshine. It's forecast to get hot later. Brook that's sounds lovely. Enjoy the scenery. GrandMattie it's beyond belief. They take your money but don't fulfil their side. Fgt a lovely photo.
Yesterday I visited my best friend's partner for coffee and cake. We blethered for a couple of hours. I headed home afterwards to put up my swollen ankles for a while, then did nothing else. Dgs1 won his race at his school sports day so he was a very happy wee boy. Dd managed to go for some of the time.
Today I will go to tesco to buy cakes for the nursery staff. I'm hoping for strawberry tarts which are quintessentially summer. It's just as a wee thank you for all they do. Then I will do some tidying in the school library before heading home. How much I do at home will depend on my feet and the heat. Have a good day all.

Good morning from Sheffield
Well the jet washer man worked his magic yesterday . He’s done a fantastic job. It looks so much better and he’s going to give us a price to resurface our tarmac drive which is a bit worse for wear.
It’s a bit drizzly this morning .
We will be moving all the pots and furniture back onto the paths this afternoon and then I need to go and get my bedding plants. A bit later this year because of going away last week.
I also have 2DGS 6 and 9 for the day as my daughter is working . It is a bit easier now that they are a bit older. It used to be like WW3. They’re quite happy little souls and get on quite well these days.
Just the DSinL for tea when he comes to pick up the boys. I’ve got a big quiche, not sure if I do salad or chips probably chips as it’s easiest.
Take care everyoneflowers

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 28-May-26 07:04:58

Morning all from a slightly cooler West Oxfordshire. The temperature is predicted to be 28.

It is my Book Group today. We meet in the local cafe so I will have a light lunch there.

My latest V&A course starts today. It is on Art Deco.

OH cut the lawns yesterday, we had left them for no mow May but we’re off on holiday on Sunday and don’t want to come back to a jungle.

Good wishes for the MaryDs. I hope things are starting to improve.

Have a good day.

Melanie61 Thu 28-May-26 07:07:05

FGT, how is your BIL. Did you manage a visit?
