Good night Allira. Goodnight all.
Thanks Casdon. You may have gathered technology is not my thing. Just mulling over thoughts to try to understand how a good inoffensive poster can end up in this situation,
The mods must use a search facility so they can find out how many times posts have been deleted, for example, by poster name. The system will also retain the personal details of previously banned posters, correspondence with them by email, and possibly the details within deleted posts, so they know exactly what was said. I imagine it’s fairly basic though, I doubt there is an AI system to make decisions based on an algorithm, it will be the mods themselves reading the evidence the check turns up, and making a decision as to action based on that. These are only my thoughts, though, others may know more than I’ve surmised.
Casdon. I suppose I was wondering if the mods receive a few reports, lets say about LauraNorderr, do they then ask AI to look at the reported posts written by LauraNorderr. Read through a list of what might be retaliatory posts and decide to ban taking only those posts completely out of context.
It made me smile too!

I am going to announce that I have just made my Pasta Arrabeita a touch too spicy.
Is that supposed to be amusing?
Yes and it is very amusing 😄😄😄
LauraNorderr
Gosh Doodledog I hadn’t realised that Growstuff had been banned.
A poster I rarely agreed with and who held strong views but always interesting and well researched posts.
Goodness me, let’s have a rewritten and clear list of rules followed by a total
Amnesty for all previously banned posters.
Once we have a list of completely unambiguous rules we will all know how to behave as expected.
So GNHQ please may we have unambiguous rules and a wiped clean slate for all.
Thank you.
Growstuff is (unfortunately) back under a new name but her style hasn’t changed. Might take the mods a while to realise but several of us know.
Annie is not AI, it’s just the generic name used by the GN moderators, who are real people, presumably because different moderators might respond on different occasions? AI can only respond to questions that it has pre-programmed searches for, not one off complex questions.
Blimey LauraNorder
As some Gransnetters seem so keen on AI now, I thought I'd ask AI about Annie at GNHQ.
This is what AI said:
"Annie" is the primary alias used by the moderation team and official community representatives at Gransnet Headquarters. [1]
The Gransnet and Mumsnet teams share offices in London. When staff members need to respond to forum feedback, clarify moderation decisions, or engage with the community in their official capacity, they generally use the username "Annie."
So are we dealing with AI, devoid of humanity, of empathy. If this is the case we have no chance and I’ll probably be gone before midnight.
So Annie, please confirm or deny the above.
Thank you.
And I’m outnumbeted
Rude and obnoxious? I suppose it depends where the bar is set. At least I’ve been prepared to come on here and say what many are thinking. But off I trot now because clearly a reality check is not appreciated.
LauraNorderr
Tuliptree I find your attitude to be rude and obnoxious. However I do not intend to report you as I am big enough to decide to ignore you. Your rudeness doesn’t harm me. I hope it doesn’t harm those to whom you’ve directed your rudeness. They too can choose to ignore you. You have not been racist or sexist. Obviously you are free to ignore me too.
Isn’t this the whole point of our fight for fair play and an amnesty for all. Also our fight to treat us as adults who can decide for ourselves.
Great post!!
Molly why on earth wouldn’t you be here tomorrow? I do think maybe a reality check might not be a bad idea. I called a poster disingenuous and was deleted and I’m still here so anything is possible ( but I do have a bestie in GNHQ ) ( Joke)

I think it’s quite insulting to a large number of Gransnetters to rubbish threads they’re on as echo chambers and imply they are serial reporters. There’s some interesting and feisty debates going on and I’ve only seen one deletion so far.
That’s true.
However, is not the disparagement or dismissal of those posters’ views which do not match those of the posters complaining about the echo chamber, equally insulting?
Implying someone (unnamed) is a serial reporter is as uncomfortable for the person who thinks it might mean them as it is for the person who has been reported and subsequently banned.
That could be solved by reporters identifying themselves and their reasons for reporting, but that’s not going to happen.
Identifying reporters would possibly mean posters are afraid to report.
Not identifying them possibly means posters are afraid to post in certain threads.
Maybe a halfway house - reported posts would be left there, with a label saying that they had been reported and giving the reason why GN feels they are contravening the rules.
There are some interesting debates going on, but one person’s feisty is another person’s reportable offence.
I’ve seen several deletions over the last few weeks.
And once more, I’m posting this, wondering if I’ll be here tomorrow. It’s not a comfortable feeling.

Crikey Tuliptree you’re feisty.
Well quite frankly I’ve just had enough of the hyperbole on this thread

FGT2 I am on the point of giving up on the N & P threads.
Well that’s your choice isn’t it? There are lots of threads I don’t post on - I don’t feel the need to announce it
