Good morning from a hot Bristol, where it’s already 22C. It’s going to be barely bearable today.
Yesterday was pretty awful, and most of m6 poor pot plants wilted despite having plenty of water; I do them at least twice a day.
The not-FAB cafe attracted 2. people. The vicar wanted to knock on several neighbours’ door a little after 11am. I refused. As it was I was melting, walking home; an hour later would have made it intolerable.
The afternoon was spent at a residents’ meeting regarding the work yet to be done. It seems that it has finally sunk in that the contractors are rubbish, aware Anchor’s own surveyor. The latter has been replaced, and I understand the former is about to have their contract cancelled.
The manager situation is now dreadful. Nothing can be found; no one wants a house for 22 hours work + 7 on another site.
Today, I’ve got to bake for my last Spanish class. I’m also serving coffee on Saturday. Easy brownies - 3 ingredients, and cookies of some sort.
Dinner at DD’s, someone is picking me up, as taking a bus at the hottest time of day was not a pleasant prospect; I think I would have cancelled.

Highlight of yesterday was the ice cold water melon, Bedroom temperature this morning was 29 and outside 24 so last ditch measures are in place now

Cross ventilation set up ie all windows open and I have opened the loft hatch for a short while, I will be grateful if inside reduces by even 1 degree. I cannot be adding more temperature today so I have closed all the window vents

It was boring yesterday, as expected, but so be it. It will be boring again today and I would do a rain dance for storms this evening but dancing would make me too hot

Oh yes, 2 milk bottles of water are now frozen, to take turns in front of a fan

With the temperatures . Please can everyone wear factor 50 sunscreen. Hats and I know it won't be comfortable but long sleeves. Protect your eyes as well. Don't forget your ears if you have short or no hair and wear baseball caps. If wearing sandles you need sunscreen on your feet.

I know only to well the devastion skin cancer can be. My husband was diagnosed with grade 4 malignant melanoma in January 2001 and give 5 years to live . He lived 3 yeaes dieing in agony unable to breath with 6 tumours ,4 days after his 47th birthday in 2004. He didn't like sunbathing. And the cancer was hidden in his black hair line just above his right ear an inch from his eye. It appeared over night . He showered everyday and felt it. He also had a full thick bushy beard.

In those days 2,000 people a month were dieing of skin cancer . There are better treatments now but only if caught early , but you must be very skin aware all year round .

People are still dieing monthly from skin cancer please check your bodies not just for moles but any changes in skin colour in areas. Best it to be a false alarm when checking with GP than having the devastating skin cancer.

Remember the sun is dangerous all year round .

You all know to drink water. Better to take sips regularly than lot all at once then leave it for hour or more before drinking again .

I know you know this but please take care. And remember children in buggy's their legs can easily get burnt . I still see children with bright red legs.

Good morning, a miserable me here after an almost sleepless night. It’s already 24°and no breeze despite living on the hillside in south Glos.
I am hoping it’s the last day of unbearable heat 🙏
Having got chores out of the way by 8am yesterday, the day seemed interminable but at least I had a nap during the afternoon, most unlike me.
Off for the ‘review’ appointment this morning, although I have no idea what they’re reviewing as absolutely nothing has happened since the phone consultation 8 weeks ago.
I’ll spend the rest of the day keeping the dogs as cool as possible and doing very little.

Good morning from Kent. Similar temperatures here as you have karmalady. Brilliant idea about the bottles in front of a fan. One of those moments where I wonder why I hadn't thought of that.

I have spent the last few days reading and occasionally watering and d-heading the plants and doing not much else. I quite like it.

A very timely reminder Whiff, thank you. I avoid the sun as much as possible because I have photosensitivity problems.
It’s also worth remembering that if you have a sunroof you can get skin cancer through the sun that way. My neighbour who also is meticulous about sun screen etc had to have extensive surgery to the top of her head because of the sun roof - she always wore a hat outside in the sun but obviously not in her car.

Funny you should mention sunroofs, R&L. DH loved them, I never did, and wore a hat inside the car, to his amusement, when he drove. If i drove, the sunroof stayed firmly shut.

Good morning from an already hot Wiltshire.

Spent most of yesterday indoors with all curtains drawn and our air cooler on which was protesting at having to work so hard so it had to have a rest for a while before kicking in again.
Apart from cold drinks in a neighbours house, we haven’t left the house since Monday. It’s too hot to sit in the garden. My tower fan read 32°c at 10pm last night.

The youngest GCs school is closed today due to the heat and we have the pleasure of their company. We will take them to Ask in Marlborough for lunch as it has aircon otherwise they will go stir crazy stuck inside. We will drop them off at the local sports centre for swimming lessons at 4pm.

Good morning from an overcast Cornwall. In the night I actually thought my heating was full on as my flat was roasting but I slept ok. I have a tiny fan next to my bed directed at my face, very nice.

I had a random day yesterday. Someone nearby was cutting back trees with an incredibly noisy electric saw and I couldn't stay at home. I set out to find cool places, started at the café next door, then took a bus to an art gallery and finally sat reading in a cool library lobby. Eventually I came home and at 9pm was lying on my swing seat looking at the canopy of trees.

I'm getting a bus very shortly to my son's house as a neck fan he ordered for me is waiting for me on his doorstep as I don't want to disturb the family by walking in. A quick turnaround will have me back home for breakfast in Wetherspoons. After that the day depends on the tree man and his noise. Hopefully I can stay at home today.

Good morning from Stockport, 21 degrees and cloud cover.I have had approx 4 hours sleep but nothing to get up for so will try to nap after a cuppa.
I did sit in a neighbours garden yesterday for an hour and a half, she had set chairs up under trees and it was pleasant, we just drank water instead of coffee, she offered wine but I declined.
Today more of the same, how lucky I feel not to have to go to work, one of the few perks of old age.

Good morning everyone from a very bright and sunny Northampton again. Another hot day ahead. It is 30° upstairs, and 28° where I am sitting downstairs.
Up early as I have a hair appointment at 8.30 and need to be on a bus by 8am.
I had my fan on nearly all day yesterday, which helped a bit and took it upstairs to bed.
Once I get home at lunchtime I plan on doing very little except lie on the sofa and read, like I did yesterday.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is a delicious 18 degrees at the moment with a cool breeze wafting through the bedroom window. It won’t last, of course - up in the mid thirties yesterday. Same today. Unbearable. I did manage to get a walk down to the river at about half past seven last night, but even then it was warm. Lots of butterflies about though. Good to see!

I should be out with the walking group today but with an amber warning in place it will be called off and anyway I really don’t want to be going anywhere in the car. So, we mark time for another day. I think I will make a quiche, have some for tea and portion the rest up for the freezer.

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where Bay where we are about to take CDog for his morning walk in the woods. The house is warmer inside than out. It’s a nightmare cooling it despite doing all the usual stuff with curtains etc. The air cooler is ok if you are in front of it but it does nothing to actually bring the temperature down.
DS2 has managed to get the next 2 days off work as holidays, then he’s off for 4 days. Working a 12.5 hour shift in a tin box effectively is not good. DS1 is a firefighter so I’m praying he doesn’t have moor fires or wildfires as they get called these days, to deal with. I do feel for those who have to work in difficult conditions. I’ve cancelled my gardening jobs until it cools down. The weeds will wait patiently for me I’m sure!
I asked GNHQ to remove the jams from my user name. Jams are the initials of some of my eldest grandchildren and not my hobby. It seems an unnecessary addition to my user name.

Good morning everyone from a sticky Lancashire.

Yesterday's toddler group was a good distraction from the heat. It's held in a church and can be cold in winter, but yesterday just felt deliciously cool.

In the afternoon I went into my nearest town for a pre-booked bra fitting. I considered cancelling, but don't like messing people around.
It was absolutely fine, with fans in the fitting room.
I came away with 2 new bras and 2 more on order. It's a brilliant service; there's no measuring, just fitting by trying on. The bras aren't cheap, but I always handwash them, they last ages and I refuse to be uncomfortable.
I've been working on losing weight and I've gone down a band size which I'm pleased about.

Today we're meeting some friends at a local play cafe for lunch and an afternoon play session.

Some good tips there, Whiff. It's obviously still a raw subject all these years on. 💐

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s a pleasant 21 degrees outside at the moment, 27 downstairs and 29 upstairs! It was 30 last night and I found it hard to get to sleep, but managed about. 4 hours. I can cope with that as I won’t be doing much today.
I abandoned my walk yesterday morning and won’t attempt one today. I may flick a duster about and do some tidying.
DD2 has to go into the office today, the train should be air conditioned and her office has it too, but the underground will be awful. I don’t envy her at all.
The 11 year old has the first of a two day induction to her senior school today.
rosesandlilac I hope your review appointment goes well today.

Yesterday I needed to get some keys cut so went to Tesco and loitered by the chillers until the keys were done. I saw quite a few people I knew 'borrowing' Tesco's aur con.

Today a friend is coming for a cup of tea on her walk home from a pilates class in our air conditioned village library. We are a convenient halfway point.

Sainsbury's delivery and Turkish takeaway later.

Yesterday afternoon was spent in and out of the Spa with The Imp and playing tennis (I use that term very loosely) Today both The Imp and 11yr old are finishing school at lunchtime, so they will both be here for a repeat of yesterday.

We will be missing another one of our regular morning friends for a while, she has decided to take a break after venturing onto a different thread and the responses she received…

DH has a doctor's appointment early so I will go to Lidl whilst he is in the surgery.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It is already 22 degrees and will reach 34.

I drove back from Kew yesterday and got home to a very warm house. OH had done his best with curtain drawing and a fan but it was still uncomfortable. When I went to bed my bed was actually hot!

It is the monthly book group today which is in the village cafe with air conditioning! I also need to do a Waitrose shop.

I was looking forward to an Arts Society lecture tomorrow but it has been cancelled due to the venue not having air conditioning.

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. It is a pleasant 18°C outside but a stuffy 27°C up here in my office. The house is highly insulated and once warmed up, it stays that way, not good in summer!
I did little yesterday except for sitting about jobs though I had to nip into town briefly to pay for the TV engineer I have booked for today. My smart TV has been updated but now blocks my Freesat system. I've partly sorted it but it still needs twiddling with. It's been doing terrible things to my temper!

I had to go into the garden after dinner and water, I've a lot of newly planted shrubs and veggies that need it. I see my peas are ready to pick so that's a little job for later.

Today....very little again, admin, reading, a little tidying and definitely avoiding any sun exposure.

A good reminder Whiff, I've had a friend die from melanoma, a fair skinned lady who worked as a volunteer for 2 years in Africa. What a painful loss it has been for you, losing your dear DH like that.
