Why don’t men shave any more?

I’m not a beard lover at all. I can’t think of anything worse than a scratchy one and I do wonder how much wildlife lives in them. The guardian had a piece this week about a female partner who was fed up of all the food lodged in his beard. Yuck.
I feel the same about Rasta type dreadlocks.
Possibly one of the reasons that I’m happy being a lesbian !

I really don’t mind. My Dh had a beard on and off all our married life. It got so I could never bring to mind whether he had a beard on any given day or not, unless I could see him. In later years, he had a more designer stubble look.

My husband has had a beard since he was 17 and he’s gorgeous,he shaved it off for charity once about 25 years ago but it had grown back within the week…just as well.I didn,t like him barefaced and our daughter walked past him in a supermarket and didn,t recognise him.
When I worked in Glasgow over 50 years ago over half the photographers had beards so it’s not a new fashion.
I love beards .

The only time I've seen OH without a beard he was wearing a dress. It was a vice versa fancy dress party in 1977 - I wore a suit.
He grew it again immediately,. Now he, our son and son-in-law all have beards. I'm all in favour.

I’ve always liked men with beards, going back to when they were popular in my student days (late 60’s). My DH of nearly 11 years sports a neatly groomed beard which suits him well (IMHO!)

My late OH had designer stubble and very nice it was too!
What I hate are the fussy nest sculpted beards ... what a turn- off .....

I'm not keen on beards; they seem unkempt for most who sport them, including my son 35. His is very thick; his wife trained as a hairdresser so will keep him trimmed up, but it seems he is always getting crumbs stuck in it.

I'm not saying they don't look attractive on some, but it's just not my fav look.

It’s just the fashion, it will pass. I hope.
To me stubble looks scruffy and the beards worn by so many men are identical and make them all look alike.
Worst of all are the little moustaches, apparently back after 75 years. Old films were full of them and my father grew one, briefly.

I think men and women, should go for whatever look they feel happiest with. My cousin wanted to grow a beard but his wife didn't like them so he was not allowed to.

Not sure the look suits everyone. Roy Keane for one.

A ggood beard takes quite a bit of maintenance.

I like a beard. It has to be in good order though! Apparently Peter Green (late Fleetwood Mac guitarist and singer) had pieces of cheese in his beard for weeks.

I disagree that not shaving is laziness. Surely looking after a beard, trimming it, grooming it etc., must take far longer than a quick shave?

Maybe because some spend so much time shaving their heads as soon as they start balding? No time for their chins...

My son is 50 next week and he looks great with his ‘designer stubble’ he’s worn it like that for years his partner likes it too.

That's exactly what I was going to say

A very friendly delivery man came to the door last week with his beard plaited in a 6" pigtail. He carried it off well.

Harry the young tree surgeon arrived with shiny dark brown shoulder length hair and a decent beard. It was 90º and I felt for him with his helmet on as he welded his chainsaw. Again he looked the part. Roughty-toughty and rarin' to go!

I think men's hairstyles can be really creative these days. Not like the days of the mullets and perms.

Oh God I hate a beard.

George Michael was shaven - just not clean-shaven.

I quite like beards but I do think it they tend to make quite different-looking people look similar.

Me too - depending on who it is though as it doesn't suit everyone.

And me- it has to be properly maintained though.
