Why don’t men shave any more?

I have just looked at a video on You Tube, and all of the men ( all over 50) have what I believe is called ‘designer stubble’. Does anyone find this look attractive?
Even Paul McCartney, whom I have loved since I was 11, is sporting an unshaven chin.
Do they really believe it looks good?

Yes, I like a hairy man .( but not on his back) DH has had a beard for years.

I love hairy men.
Even hairy backs.
Just nothing sprouting from nostrils or ears.

I am rather partial to designer stubble 👍

I am rather partial to designer stubble 👍

Me too - depending on who it is though as it doesn't suit everyone.

Maybe their womenfolk have commandeered their shaving equipment 🥸………..I’ll get my coat

What I really don’t care for is those (often scruffy looking) little ‘hipster’ beards.

My brother has a white, full beard and moustache. It rather suits him.
He looks like Father Christmas.tchgrin

They're either kidding themselves that they can pass for a George Michael look-a-like but they don't, or they're lazy - which they are.

I have only had designer stubble once, playing a killer in Harold Pinter's The Dumb Waiter back in the Sixties. Full beard ever since, but not too long - no accommodation for the birds in Edward Lear's limerick.

And me- it has to be properly maintained though.

George Michael was shaven - just not clean-shaven.

I quite like beards but I do think it they tend to make quite different-looking people look similar.

Oh God I hate a beard.
I agree Valdali, it is like a uniform for young men these days.

A very friendly delivery man came to the door last week with his beard plaited in a 6" pigtail. He carried it off well.

Harry the young tree surgeon arrived with shiny dark brown shoulder length hair and a decent beard. It was 90º and I felt for him with his helmet on as he welded his chainsaw. Again he looked the part. Roughty-toughty and rarin' to go!

I think men's hairstyles can be really creative these days. Not like the days of the mullets and perms.

My son is 50 next week and he looks great with his ‘designer stubble’ he’s worn it like that for years his partner likes it too.

AmberGran Mon 29-Jun-26 19:13:12

Maybe because some spend so much time shaving their heads as soon as they start balding? No time for their chins...

Im with your taste Miss Aventure👍

I like a beard. It has to be in good order though! Apparently Peter Green (late Fleetwood Mac guitarist and singer) had pieces of cheese in his beard for weeks.

I disagree that not shaving is laziness. Surely looking after a beard, trimming it, grooming it etc., must take far longer than a quick shave?

MissAdventure Mon 29-Jun-26 19:30:04

A ggood beard takes quite a bit of maintenance. smile

Not sure the look suits everyone. Roy Keane for one.
