Always manage to delete something vital, or mess it up somehow.

Similar when you are told things such as, " you will just need to change the SIM card' on the phone.
After working out exactly where that is, I am afraid to fiddle around trying to get it out for fear of somehow damaging my phone at the same time. Every 'little' issue is fraught with stress at the thought of all the things that could go wrong.

I thank my lucky stars that one of my sons has turned out to be a genius when it comes to tech, though I do feel really bad about having to turn to him for help as often as we do 😔

Just discovered that apparently from beyond the grave my parents have switched my phone to bedtime mode and restricted my usage!! I foresee hours trying to sort that out.

i have a house phone, always had, i don't need a mobile but son insisted and he pays for it and has a tracker on it so he knows where i am, i have no apps and don't have the internet on it (i switched it off) i have a laptop and use that to do all my shopping, i am more or less housebound and have been for about 5 years, i have a 50 inch tv that is never on....son again said i needed a new one, i was happy to get the kindle as large print books are difficult to get, alexa sits on my table and i sometimes ask about the weather or to make farting sounds to amuse my little grandson, my sons house is filled with tech for everything including switching the lights off and on, i don't want to bother with all the tech stuff, at 62 i am happy with what i need.

It seems nonsensical to me that big complex items such as TV have no instruction manual, but you get one with small items such as a kettle.

Manuals cost money and models change.
All tech devices are often up graded. You can’t do that with a paper manual, whereas on line it’s just a few clicks.

I do get not enjoying messing about with tech but you can ask AI where to find things. Your phone info will be in Settings under something like ‘This/my phone’ and will give you all the info needed.

I’m about to look for my TV serial/model number to see which Firestick to use with it. Wish me luck! 🍀

uttb and pably just try unplugging Alexa for 30 seconds that might do it? 🤷‍♀️

Otherwise I think you need to go into the Alexa apps FAQs.

I've thought about replacing my phone as I'm out of contract now. It's such a palaver though, the last time I went to my phone shop provider, I forgot to take my driving licence with me, mandatory I gather as proof of address. In the end I couldn't be bothered to go back and get it plus you need to practically give over half a day it seems to me with all the necessary paperwork, so I'll just carry on with the one I've got.

I love this thread, it’s made me feel so much better. Like others upthread, I’ve been using computers since the 80s and was considered pretty competent but now……….! I’m going to have to get a new laptop and am dreading it.
