Returning , or not, OP’s

Yes, it is annoying. Sometimes questions are asked, to clarify the situation, and no response is given, which means some advice can be worthless.

Yes even of it's just one post saying thank you for all the replies.

It's even better if the OP comes back to say what she/he has decided or done. Or if the advice has helped. That will help others in the same position.

I see one GN post quite often and I do roll my eyes as she never came back after receiving loads of really good advice a year ago from many GNs.

I think some of these threads are the result of after dark panics when someone has been told or discovered something that is worrying them sick and they are surfing the web searching the web and asking all and sundry for help and assistance. Probably posting on 5 or 10 different sites

Come the morning they feel more optimistic and calm and simply cannot remember where they posted or how much they said.

Definitely. I gave very specific info to a poster re a travel query and then silence. It makes you wonder if it's worth it sometimes and further instills the thought that newer posters are ignored. I will certainly ignore that particular poster if she asks for advice on anything I happen to have knowledge on.

I am relatively new but do try to respond to posters. I hope that newbies don’t get ignored because of a handful of posters who never get back. I have found it hard enough to be taken notice of as it is but this would just penalise anyone new who would then just give up.

It’s nice if people respond but I guess we are all busy and when things happen in real life that would take precedence. We have no idea what people are dealing with really.

Yes to this.

Sometimes when the poster thanks all, amd updates us, people still say
.. "Pack a bag, now!"
"Tell your mother in law blah blah..."
"Gently tell your fifty two year old son..."

So, I suppose some people lose the will to live to carry on with a thread they started, and issue they've since dealt with?
