There's a thread called 'what made you fall in love with comedy' so I thought I would start this one.
I fell in love at 21, he was back and forth from his seagoing career. When we got together, I was immediately at ease with him, and he felt like one of my best friends that I could talk to about anything. We just knew that we would marry and make a life together. We must have been right, we're still together 58 years later.

I was on a chance night out with a girlfriend. We were both Police Officers and at the last minute decided to go to the Police bar as it was cheaper ( we were both skint at the time!) I had just come out of a disastrous marriage and then a 1 year long relationship with a colleague, so wasn’t really on the lookout.
In walked the 2 x 10 shift with my future other half among them . He was a 3 month probationer so i didn’t know him.
The friend I was with fancied him like mad but it seemed it was me he was drawn to ( she was furious!).
We talked all that night and the following week he came to my house whilst on duty to ask me out. We’ve been inseparable since then . It’ll be 30 years next year. We’re just very alike but also very different. He has a great sense of humour and not bad looking either!!
his money , lol
Our first date was on valentines day, we got engaged on 1st April, and married on 3rd June. All in the same year, and no I wasn't pregnant. Have been married for 48 years now.
Rebound! 😄
(It worked out fine)!
I wasn't originally attracted to my OH and the first time I saw he had a hairy back, I was positively turned off. I spent a lot of time looking at his dodgy eye and gappy teeth wondering why he hadn't got something done about them. However, we talked lots and I find him really kind. He was balanced and calm which I wasn't used to at all. His ex-wife was so horrible to him which I found really unfair on his behalf yet he was still thoughtful about her. I watched how he was around his children too. I gradually grew to really like him. When he walked in and found his wife in the passionate embrace with his best friend, I decided he was fair game so we started a relationship. It is something I have never regretted and we have stayed very happy. There is a certain amount of karma in that his ex-wife, although she stays with him, is not happy with the best friend!
My husband exudes kindness. One of his work colleagues told me “Everybody loves Mr Artcraftbiddy”, and that sealed the deal for me.
I visited a bank on business for company I worked for. I used to prey the tall, dark teller with the gorgeous brown eyes would deal with the business. Unknown to me, the bank manager who was rather nice himself, mentioned to my heart-throb he thought I was rather nice. Don't know how long he waited but we bumped into one another in the town and he asked me out. We both changed jobs two years later but manager always kept in touch.Would have been 60 years marriage this year but sadly only made 56 years.
Samsara1
I took his clothes off and thought Oh Yes. (he was a patient and unconcious).
Did you ask for a date on the day he was discharged from hospital?
You obviously couldn't do so while he was a patient.
His lovely hands!
I was at my first high school disco and saw a boy that was so mesmerising to me that my stomach flipped every time he smiled and laughed. Fast forward to when I was 15 I was out with a friend at a bar and he was there with a friend, my friend knew his friend so whilst they were talking I asked my crush if he wanted to dance. He was about 6’3 to my 5’1 and at the end of the dance whilst I was looking dreamily into his eyes he began the long journey down to kiss me, I had butterflies in the anticipation of that kiss and that reinforced what I had felt at the disco. There was never anyone else, we married when I was 21 and celebrate 40 years of marriage in October this year.
He was the only boyfriend I’d ever had that was genuinely interested in me as a person. 56 years on and we still haven’t run out of things to talk about.
Fantasy OH.
Very smart, handsome and loads of money.
I had a father who was very ‘distant’ very little interest in his children (though my mother more than made up for it) then I had a child with a similar man ( that didn’t last long) then I met my DH. He was a single parent to 3 children. He absolutely adored and doted on them.
I found this unbelievable…a man with so much care and interest in his own children. That did it for me.. we have had 33 happy years together so far.
I used to go to work on a moped, which was always breaking down.
A workmate always offered to fix it, and the bike worked well after he had sorted it.
When he asked me out, I knew he was a keeper.
We married, and have been together for 55 years.
He is still fixing things.
We met at our local Grammar school and became friends .
He left for university and I went to college to train as a teacher .
We met up during the holidays back at our home town .
I began teaching in the East End of London . He worked away at various places as a computer engineer .
I met someone - fell in love - married - had 3 lovely children . He married and had one daughter.
My husband had an affair and left us for another woman . So I moved back home with the children .
His wife left him so he went back home with his daughter.
We met up again and renewed our friendship.
When the children left home we lived together then got married .
Now in our mid 80s and married for just over 54 years .
We had been deserted by our respective spouses after years of marriage and were both very sad. It was just nice to be able to share our feelings with someone who really understood and we grew closer. I think love came gradually but grew stronger and after 42 years I always think that my first husband did me a great favour.
His confidence. I was very shy and I loved how he could talk to anyone. He got on well with my parents from day one. Together since 1972.
How wonderful to read of so many happy relationships- very heartening ❤️
I was 12 when I went to visit a new friend. She had some other friends there and we all sat around chatting. We had a jokey argument about our local football club (Spurs) and that was that. I wrote his name and mine together all over my school pencil case. We are both still big Spurs fans and do everything together. We got engaged at 17 just two months before my Dad died
. The way he treated me then convinced me he was the right one for me. How right I was, we have now been married 57yrs and are still extremely happy. 😃
grumppa
She was a gorgeous redhead, and when she dumped her boyfriend, who played in the same front row of the scrum as me at our local rugby club, I moved quickly. We clicked, and were married in just under a year from our first date. Our golden wedding was followed all too soon by her dying.
So so sorry .. All our deepest condolences.
It was lust at first sight, tbh, but if he'd turned out to be boring or stupid or mean, that would have been the end of it. A creative engineer, he was none of those things, but he was impulsive, untidy and poor at time management. Unfitted for corporate life, he eventally started his own company, which he ran happily until he was well over 70. And he loved me faithfully for 59 years, as I did him.
Lots of chemistry and a romantic invite to The Madrid Capital and it just happened !!
I fell in love after he talked me down from total hysteria about my exams. We were on a date going for a walk as usual (no money) and I completely lost it. I was so stressed, anxious and tearful, so sure I would fail. He was utterly calm, kind and caring. I passed the exams and we got engaged. Married 50 years this month.
I fell in love with his voice before I ever met him. There was a column in the local paper 'Kate Friendly' and I replied to his ad. We corresponded for 3-4 weeks and then exchanged phone numbers. He worked away and on weekends he was home he had his daughters so it was difficult to meet up He lived in a different town, didn't drive and I didn't have a car at the time. He rang me virtually every night and eventually after a couple of months of phone dates - he was home for a couple of weeks and were able to meet. It felt like we'd known each other for ever - he moved in with me and my daughters a few months later and eventually tied the knot. He was an amazing husband and stepdad to my two girls. Unfortunately our time together was cut short when he passed away suddenly 19 years ago, this year we would have celebrated our 30th Wedding anniversary.
