We had breakfast out today and I’ve had nothing since nor do I feel hungry. It is so Hot! Breakfast was porridge with fruit and two mini pancakes with maple syrup.

I am going to make an omelette for my husband with cheese and mushrooms because he says he’s not hungry either.

Oh look, there's some melon in the fridge.....another piece will do. Failing that if the tummy is empty, I'm having a weetabix.

Greciangirl Fri 14-Aug-26 15:35:22

I have definitely lost my appetite.
I usually have 100% real Greek yoghurt with a sprinkling of mixed seeds, raspberries, blueberries, ground flaxseed, drizzled with honey for breakfast.
That seems to fill me up and I’m not eating lunch because I’m not hungry, but am able to enjoy my evening meal much more.
Relying on ready meals too much because I don’t have the energy to cook from scratch.
Also salads are easier as we all know.

Out early for a walk with the dog before I had any breakfast, cereal with fresh fruit and fresh coffee when I got back.
Lunch was pastrami and coleslaw on sourdough cob and a banana, because it all needed using up, or should I say half a banana, I had to share it with the dog.
Maybe I’ll just have a salad tonight.🤔 drinking lots of water too.

Too hot for me, really don't want to cook anything. Husband however, wants things like Cottage Pie ! Much too hot for me !

Jojo1950 Fri 14-Aug-26 16:07:04

Then let husband make his cottage pie.
See how hungry he is then. Mine would say if you are not having it then I won’t either.
Born LAZY!!!

I was defeated by a curry last night .
I've been eating a lot of salad and far too much ice cream .

sodapop Fri 14-Aug-26 16:38:52

Whitewavemark2 can I share your crab salad please, one of my absolute favourites.

39 degrees here so limited cooking, Mr Soda said he doesn't want to see another salad for a good while. New potatoes, charcuterie and salad for us.
Looking forward to the cooler weather and a gravy dinner smile

I think we've discovered the secret of how a Mediterranean diet works!

SunnySusie Fri 14-Aug-26 16:54:06

36 degrees here yesterday and the main rooms in the house all face south. After a brief open of all windows when we get up, its then batten down the hatches and descend into semi-darkness until the sun starts going down. Nothing however seems to dent my appetite, although I draw the line at cooking. Its salads all the way.

We’re also eating very little at the moment, just two small meals a day. Just too hot! However a glass of chilled rose and a crisp or two at six are still appealing.

Living in Scotland does have its advantages! It may be dark and cold over a long winter but the summer has been good with 25 degrees tops! Even at this low temperature I still find I have little appetite.

Me and my husband are the same, it’s too hot to eat or sit outside. But our 3 lazy cats are loving this weather. They’re sunbathing and sleeping in the garden, and scoffing all their meals, (they are also drinking lots of water) I’ve tried to entice them into the house as it’s nice and cool inside but they’re loving this weather😻😻😻

Witzend Fri 14-Aug-26 18:14:15

Funnily enough, people in very hot countries do still eat normally. They even eat hot food.
My Singaporean SiL maintains that no meal that isn’t cooked and served hot, is a ‘proper’ one.

I am having a melt down day, as regards food. Today is no worse than the last umpteen days but it has still been a day of curtains closed and shut windows, and it is a good job I am on my own as just feel like screaming " I have had enough!" . Much good that would do, but my back is painful, not up to standing around much, and with a fridge, and cupboard ,full of food I cannot think of anything I want to eat. So the grand result is I am boiling some new potatoes, which I may skin and put some butter on, or rinse in cold water to make potato salad to eat with some cooked meat I had some cereal this morning and have been drinking water cooled down in the fridge for the rest of the day.

I have lived in various countries such as Syria and Portugal and all over Europe on shorter times, so have always managed to cook etc. But then I was usually with my husband or family and someone else might make a good suggestion.
Ah well tomorrow is another day and might be a little cooler!

I got up early to open the windows to let air in to cool down but at 8am it 31 degrees again in the hall

Unfortunately the heat hasn't affected my appetite nor of those I live with who keep asking me what is for dinner

I am totally with you I eat normally and graze more as my mouth is dry, but I don't enjoy drinking without some kind of food with it. I dislike water, get fed up with squash, only have a couple of decaf coffee a day, what do you enjoy drinking. No alcohol nor tea which I totally dislike.

I think today has been one of the hottest. A.though we were out of the country during the very hot June weather so I can’t compare that.

Didn’t feel remotely like even going into the kitchen. So have chucked a Bingham in the oven.

Let’s hope tomorrow is a tad cooler.

What is a Bingham? Google says it is a type of plastic, I hope you have not put hat in the oven??

Charlie Bingham ready meals win tasty for a treat, pricey.

madeleine45 Fri 14-Aug-26 21:31:07

Update from ratty me. I cooked my potatoes with skin on and they are easy to whip the skin off while they are hot. . Had a very small steak from the reduced basket and so pan fried it with some onions , and that with a small glass of red wine, and some cold water has revived me. The kitchen will have to be sorted early tomorrow am, but I was able to at last open the windows, and watch gardeners world and cool down a bit. Hope that will let me get to sleep tonight and have a better night.

On Thursday I defintely ate less than usual. It was 38 in London at Kew gardens, cooler in the west country. After breakfast, it was too hot for a large meal at lunch. I ate snacks for dinner. On Friday I wasn't hungry at all...infact I gave my dinner (a pesto and mozarella wrap) away to a young homeless man...Not sure what he made of it..he seemed happy enough with it though. They were collecting for Crisis and I do think it would be horrible to be out in this heat all day.. (It was still very hot at 730pm, and I really didn't need to eat it..) It is a bit cooler today. Not half as hungry as normal. Every heatwave has its silver lining.

Made a lot of strawberry, raspberry and peach slices jellies served either with icecream or Elmlea cream.

Primrose53 Sun 16-Aug-26 20:14:15

I bought some Cucumber and Mint Relish yesterday from a craft fayre. It is delicious and very refreshing with a light meal in this hot weather albeit cooler today.

And they're in greaseproof paper and wood, not plastic.
