The award could be a simple medal or letter or anything thanking you and not everyone is a show off there are modest people about. It could be put in a drawer, the upside is that you’re doing something to help.I would certainly do it if I were well off and didn’t need it.
It was just some blue sky thinking by a group but not a bad idea if the wealthy voluntarily gave it up.
I still cannot see the point and doubt anyone doing it would want to advertise that they were. A courteous letter of thanks should be quite .
I would never do it, on a point of principle. My state pension is not a benefit, it is a contributory pension. It is something I had no choice over contributing into. I hav paid for it. If I withdraw from receiving it for a period of time will I get my contributions back, or future payments increased.
If I feel I do not wish to receive my state pension for any reason then I should donate the money to a charity of my choice, preferably one helping less well off pensioners.
Once you start playing around with people's pensions like this you muddy the waters between a contributory pension and an benefit income and gradually government interference in our pensions and our entitlement to them will increase.
I think pension rises should be linked to increases in earnings with Pension Credit rising in line with living costs to ensure that even the poorest pensioners receive enough money to live on.
