Good morning from a clear, dawning Bristol. The temperature is so much more comfortable now.
Mick, I hope the antibiotics are kicking in and you feel more comfortable.
Yesterday was quiet, I went to church coffee where I met a young woman to whom I had given some of the kg of spices DS brought. She shared it with a neighbour who found them so delicious that , knowing I still had a “ton”, asked for more! I emptied my bags for them.
The rest of the day was quiet; I did some square assembling, and some cutting out too. The quilt will certainly be colourful.
Just church today, then an empty.

It is twilight here, and cooler 16° with a high of 25° predicted.

The GC were very good and still asleep, their breakfast orders given last night, both included poached eggs.

Nothing much planned for today.

I fancied roast chicken for dinner so that is what I shall be cooking this evening.

Good morning from s somerton, sunny, cloudy and warm

All the major garden and allotment work is finished, three apple trees pruned, crab apple lopped and brown compost available for all the compost bins. The big branches went to the tip and three big trugs to my allotment bins, There is a massive amount of available food for my compost worms

I pottered in the house all afternoon and had an unexpected nap in my chair plus a good sleep last night, I feel recovered and refreshed and very grateful for the falling temperatures

Today I will lubricate all the moving parts of doors and windows, boring but necessary. Then rest time, all day and evening. Reading, knitting and a film today

Good morning from Malta where the high today is 37°C.

Yesterday, sadly, saw the first murder of the year on the island. A 44 year old woman killed by her former partner (who had already served a year in prison for abusing her). 😞

The boys are having such a good time in Gozo that they are staying another day so Milo dog and the canary will be here until tomorrow.

I haven’t made my mind up about today yet but que será, será!😄

Another early start DH has a fishing contest it is about a mile away from where the wedding was at Stratford.
I've stripped the bed and got that on in the machine.
Will decide any other chores as the day progresses.
Karmalady I think my moving parts need lubricating 😀.

Good morning, it’s a wonderful cool 13° here, to have really fresh air is wonderful! There are grey clouds all across the sky but no rain forecast for today (or this week except drizzle at 2pm on Tuesday 🤷🏼‍♀️)
Oh how I wish for rain……… I don’t think I’d care if it poured down for a month!
Yesterday I was really puffed, horrible sensation but it’s better at the moment.
My lovely friend from along the road came for a chat, she has a gorgeous Basset hound who’s a really character.
I did spend a little bit of time in my shed but it was too warm so I retreated back to the living room, in front of the fans.
I started sorting out my sashiko threads, there’s a traditional way where you plait them as they come in a skein that’s all too easy to tangle. I have more to do today.

Good morning Mick and all GN's to come, on a dawning still sky but at the moment window open and lovely cool air coming in. I was wide awake and didnt think I could fall asleep again so hope this will help me to get back to a better pattern in the future. Glad you are better than you have been Mick and I plan to join you in having a quiet day at home , catching up on chores and listening to radio 3. Hope your day goes as you want it to.

Yesterday was a very mixed bag and ended up not going to any plans made but actually quite good. Unfortunately lately I have been having poor nights, and got into a pattern of difficulty getting off to sleep, whatever I do, then after 2 or 3 hours waking again , usually back causing me grief and needing the loo, then again great difficulty getting back to sleep, finally dropping off then not waking until after 8am feeling like a zombie. So same pattern and it was well after 8am when I finally woke up, convinced it was sunday, and creaking around taking my time. Then the radio made me realize that it was actually saturday and I was rather in chaos mode.

So I rejigged my ideas, had a quick breakfast and made a shopping list and rushed to get out on the yellow peril, before the day got too hot. It was actually grey sky and very comfortable on the buggy, with a slightly cooling breeze as I drove along. Very busy in the market as everyone made the most of the cooler morning to enjoy wandering about, rather than having to get back before the sun got too hot. So I calmed down a bit, had time to look at a couple of 100% cotton tops etc., and as I was really in quite a lot of pain, was pleased to accept the offer of help from my usual fruit and veg stall, where they know me well. So I was "the lady of the manor" giving the man my bag, and choosing what I wanted, and he gathered everything I wanted. My big treat was some beautiful large cherries, not cheap, but we are coming to the end of cherry time. Well that was my excuse ! So he got exactly what I asked for, loaded it up, took my money and brought the bag to me so that I could stow it safely, and all without having to get on and off, which is the most painful for me. So I thought about going for a coffee, but decided to get back as the sun might still get out and duly went home.

Came in and started to unload shopping, with plans to get back to GN's posts and have some coffee, when the cool air let my brain start to function again, and I suddenly thought I could go out somewhere whilst it was cool enough. So a few things shoved in the fridge, a quick sandwich made and wrapped up , along with yoghurts,lots of waters including some tonic water, and hastily washed the cherries. I had my Yorkshire Post , which I had just bought, and shoved the suncream and hat in and a jumper and some trousers to be ready for any eventuality, and put my fold up chair and everything into the car and took myself off to Saltburn.

Had a lovely trip, with windows on the nearside open, giving me quite a nice breeze coming through. Being a bit later, and going through Great Ayton way rather than the main road. had a lovely ride. The sky was grey, the wind cool, but comfortable to be in T shirt and shorts and sandals and no need for sunglasses. I felt as though I had just been let out of prison and was enjoying the freedom. With the weather we have been having, I have been sensible and keeping out of the very hot sun, but this has meant it has not been practical or worthwhile to go anywhere but just for local things. Think it also did the car good to have a proper run out rather than these very short local trips.

I was seeing changes as it has been many weeks since I have been out that way. One or two houses being built, are now finished. The countryside brown but lovely, and looking more like the end of september with the majority of crops gathered, and a few tractors and trailers on the road, and finishing up in the last fields. The straw crops are standing in the fields waiting to be collected and I saw the variations . Most of the fields are full of the very big circular bales, which have to be picked up by fork lifts and machinery, could be rolled by hand but not picked up. Then there were a few fields with the oblong bales, spread around. I remember the pleasure we used to get at harvest time, when I was riding and taking rides out, and we were able to use these for jumping over before they were gathered in. I am so old I also remember in a few small fields, where it was an awkward shape or you couldnt get a machine in, having stooks stacked up against each other. My granny had a field like that many years ago. Shows my age doesnt it?

So after an easy drive to Saltburn, it took me some time to find a parking space along the front, - no surprise there - but I was able to get my chair out, (cant sit comfortably on the benches) and had my binoculars and my paper and my sun hat and was fine. Lots of people about of course, but there was no disabled space in the car park down near the beach, so I went up to the higher level promenade and was able to see all around, with families enjoying their time on the beach, tide was out when I arrive and very calm so no surfers but plenty of people paddling. Stayed until nearly 4pm and then had a gentle drive back to Guisborough, where I was able to get a coffee at Cafe Nero, only problem there was a load of dug up road and barriers up outside, so had to park a bit further along the road and struggled to walk to the cafe, as my back had definitely seized up.

So by the time I got home it was getting on for 7pm and I was of course greeted by all the mess I had left, plus the stuff from the trip. Too weary to do much , and ended up watching Wallander later. A miracle, a repeat that I had not seen before, so just sat in the tip and watched. Then bed and now it is rather the day of reckoning as I need to get cracking sorting things out.

Yesterday has made a good difference. I feel more like myself, and can think more clearly. Even if we have another major heatwave I know that I will be able to get going again. I was beginning to feel that I was never going to make plans or get things sorted again.

It has been sad to see the devastation of country and the houses burnt, but perhaps it will make people wake up to the possibilities of such things. If we all do what we can, conserving water, and not being stupid enough to set fires, or barbecues outside or leave glass bottles etc which can cause a blaze. The day before yesterday, an idiot man threw a cigarette out from his car window as he passed me, and it makes you wonder how many fires are started by such behaviour. At least if you must smoke, you really need to be careful where you leave cigarette ends, or matches.

Having lived in countries which had earthquakes, and also been living in places with some unrest, we always had a "panic bag" with a set of clothes, medication and prescription, and a notebook with phone numbers, both for friends and family, but also such things as insurance emergency number, lists of things like passport numbers and residencia information. Given the situation here now, I think , rather than the press being sensational and constantly repeating themselves , that it would be a good thing to suggest that we all collect a "panic bag" just in case. You might be miles away from any likely fires, but right now you do not know what might happen, and how much easier it will be , when you are in a state of shock, if you can put your hand on important information.

I have decided to do that today, so it will be passport, driving license etc, clothes , and most importantly a weeks medication, so that if the worst should happen, at least I wont have to rush about trying to get tablets in a hurry. These days , with mobile phones and long numbers I dont remember all the long numbers, and I have one or two letters from my husband that are precious to me a a couple of photos. It will be very unlikely, I feel ,that I will need to use it, but given my experience over many years, I would feel stupid if I wasnt prepared (Brownie Guider to the fore") At the very least I would think that taking photos of documents that mattered , could be something that would be worth doing as a stand by.

Well the sky is clearing, and so far still cool, so time to use my newly found energy to make a start. Wishing everyone a happy day, with a cooler sky and dare one hope for some rain. Despite the cooler day, we got not a drop of rain here yesterday. I shall come back later to read all your posts and catch up with news.

An ambulance has just come for one of our frailer residents. Sad, but this is a consequence of living in sheltered housing!

Madeleine it's good to hear you had such a good day yesterday you sound more like the Madeline we have become to know.
