Hope all is well, will catch up next week šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø

You must all be in high doh Nannytopsy no wonder you couldn’t settle to anything today. I hope your family gets some reassuring news soon šŸ¤ž

Nannytopsy Tue 27-Oct-26 21:25:55

Hi! I have had a strange day, couldn’t settle well to anything. I did sort out one big cupboard and do some identifying of things for Vinted.
DS is still having lots of drugs and medication on the virtual ward. CT scan today showed no kidney issues, so that’s something else ticked off.
DSiL had successful cardioversion on Friday, which lasted until Sunday night when it went out of rhythm again. MRI and ECG yesterday but appointment is 2 weeks away. Today, his heart went back into rhythm by itself. He is on a real rollercoaster of emotions. Fingers firmly crossed it has settled.
Tomorrow I have a cake to bake for the refreshments for a village talk in the evening. I hope to get in the garden too. All that rain filled the waterbutts nicely.
I hope all the poorlies recover very quickly.

ā€˜Evening All’

Thanks Charley yes I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there. My stepfather was asked by the guy who did the scan whether straight lines appeared wavy. He said not and apparently that’s a good sign apparently. The technician said dry can often progress at ā€˜a snails’s pace’ which at his great age was heartening. So we await guidance in due course.

Sorry to hear you’re still tender GG13 hopefully another good nights sleep will help the path to recovery. I expect it’s been pretty miserable for you the last few days.

I’ve had a good day, brunch with the Boy Wonder, L’il Miss and their mum then reading all afternoon! Is book club a week tomorrow and finding the sweet spot between reading too early and forgetting some or reading too late and feeling rushed as though it were homework is a fine line.

I’ve just posted this from my smartphone and I’m loving swirling around the keyboard with one finger as shown to me by our Yorkshire Lass in the summer! Grandmabatty you are such an anchor in your family - I’m sure stepping into the breech is much appreciated by your daughter and son in law! Best wishes for your grandson’s grandfather going forward.

Jaxjacky Tue 27-Oct-26 20:44:50

Oh no GG13 šŸ’
A day of bits and pieces, admin, cleaning, dinner prep and phone calls, sun with the odd blustery shower.
Imogen and her friend are loving Munich.
I hope those menfolk are doing well Nannytopsy.

brook DD1 & family are at Lalandia tonight and tomorrow (apparently Legoland is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays).Lalandia is like Center Parcs. Then they’re off to Copenhagen on Thursday and Friday! Knowing DD1 the Tivoli Gardens will be on the list of places to visit!
Good that you’re pleased with your hair!

Coffee morning in the church hall tomorrow morning then I hope to repot my amaryllis bulbs which have been outside all summer. Two of them flowered during the summer, so I doubt they’ll produce anything this winter, but hopefully the rest will flower.

Sleep well everyone.

Grandmabatty Tue 27-Oct-26 20:02:27

Good evening kitchen folk. GrannyGravy poor you. Take life easy for now. Brook enjoy your volunteering tomorrow.
I'm lounging about. I dropped off the boys at school this morning then did a quick shop at tesco before heading home to do nothing! After I picked up the boys again, we came back to my house for an hour. Lots of drawing by them and appreciative comments by me. Then I took them home. Dinner was chicken stew with borlotti beans and a baked potato.
Tomorrow I'm telling a ghost story to primary 2 pupils. The teacher has asked me and I'm happy to be involved. I will tidy up the library thereafter and pick up the boys. I'm now doing 3 days a week of childcare. My life will be busier but I don't mind. The other granddad goes into hospital for an operation tomorrow morning and will be out of commission for some time. Enjoy the rest of your evening kitchen folk

brook2704 Tue 27-Oct-26 19:38:34

Aww poor you GG I hope you’re feeling much better soon
Another wet and windy day here, I did aerobics at the gym and then got my hair done this afternoon, it feels so much better now. Tomorrow I’ve got volunteering in the morning so I need to have a quick look at the script this evening
I think Legoland is great for youngsters redcar pleased to hear they’ve enjoyed the visit. Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen is great for families too if they’ve time to visit
Hope everyone sleeps well tonight, take care all x

grannygravy that sounds really nasty. I hope you’ll soon be feeling better. It hasn’t really been the kind of weather to be out and about, but being ill makes it worse.

We had a wet morning and a dry sunny afternoon. I feel like hibernating. I saw my dementia friend this afternoon, it’s quite disconcerting at times because she looks at me but doesn’t speak at all. She is having difficulty swallowing now, and her food is pureed, her DH feeds her because she can’t feed herself.

DD1 and family have enjoyed Legoland today, lots of Lego pumpkins everywhere. No doubt some more Lego will find its way home with them!

Enjoy the rest of the evening folks.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 27-Oct-26 18:56:06

Hi kitchen friends, as per usual I am behind with your news.

Until this morning I have not been near any devices, haven’t been out since Saturday morning curtesy of a gift from a GC (not sure which one) of a nasty tummy bug. I feel as if I have been kicked by a horse in my tum (and yes I have been kicked by several horses in various body parts)

Still onwards and upwards šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø

Charleygirl5 Mon 26-Oct-26 22:45:31

fgt he has dry. He would have been injected immediately, it isn't something which is left even for a few days.

Be careful because dry can turn to wet overnight. Keep your fingers crossed he is not registered blind like a friend of mine within 4 months. Mine has grumbled on but I have major problems even with a magnifying glass.

I joined the Macular Society years ago and if you ring, they are very helpful. If you cant google the number, get un touch with me. It costs £22 a year and I receive a few magazines and what is going on re research. Beyond him and me as we will not be here in 15 years.

There should be a Macular group around Stockport. I meet fellow sufferers every month for coffee and we have a great time.

brook2704 Mon 26-Oct-26 22:27:05

Hoping Imogen has a good time Jax it’s so good to travel when you’re young
I’m just in from line dancing, it was a really enjoyable evening. A mix and of all ages and experience and everyone very friendly. It’s hard to get up off the sofa in the evening and go out, but well worth it! It’s raining here and another windy day is forecast for tomorrow
Hoping your stepfather quickly gets whatever treatment is needed fgt
Take care all and sleep well x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 26-Oct-26 21:32:07

Google tells me:

Dry Macular Degeneration:• Accounts for about 85% to 90% of all age-related macular degeneration (AMD) cases.

(and he is 94 - so dry AMD does seem more likely here).

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 26-Oct-26 21:26:23

ā€˜Evening All’

I took my stepfather to the macular eye clinic where he had a scan (he’d been referred urgently by our iotician). Upshot was the consultant said ā€œyou can go home nowā€ (? not urgent then) ā€œand we will send for you in Januaryā€.

At this juncture I’m not sure whether he has wet or dry AMD but a friend messaged to say if it were ā€˜wet’ surely more urgent treatment would be appropriate.

Maybe it’s dry?

I think I will telephone the reception tomorrow just to clarify to give me peace of mind. I’m not disputing the consultant knows his stuff, just that I ought to have asked the question (or that he could have clarified the situation).

No matter. I’ll look into it tomorrow. I’m surprisingly tired tonight.

Jaxjacky Mon 26-Oct-26 17:22:12

They did thanks Redcar landed 08:07, I tracked for a whilešŸ™‚
Voluntary phone very quiet today, but you have to keep checking just in case.
It rained until about two and was still very dull, so lights have been on most of the day.
Reflux is lurking, I’m being careful, I’d like a glass of wine, missed over the weekend but no way!
Have a decent evening all.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 26-Oct-26 17:02:21

Good evening everyone.
Lights on here but I haven’t drawn the curtains ins yet I don’t like to shut the world out too early.
Another horrible day, wet and cold but the wind has not troubled us today.

I haven’t been out since Thursday, it has not bothered me at all.
I have sorted a couple of wardrobes out and some things have gone in a charity bag and I washed three dressing gowns , I shall see what I think when they are dry as to whether I keep or ā€œchuckā€ them, they are warm winter ones so I-may well keep them.. in case it is difficult to wash and dry during the winter.

I also found a red jumper I like, it is about 4 years old but not worn much, I shall trot it as new and see if anyone remembers it!!

Going to think about a meal now, I’m not particularly hungry so it will be light and quick to assemble.

I hope you are all warm and snug and for those not too well I wish for an improvement for you.

Redcar Mon 26-Oct-26 16:35:42

jax I hope Imogen and her friend have arrived safely in Munich. I used to track the flights that my DDs were on, but I now just check the departures and arrivals at the relevant airports. I would track them if they were doing long haul flights. They’re both very good and let me know they’ve landed! I still worry even though they’re 50 and 46!
Sorry your reflux is back.

fgt our local garden centre had all the decorations in store from the middle of September and I’m sure some offices will have them up already. I’ve got the sparkly lights on in the garden., and need more to cheer it up out there!

Another wet day here, I had hoped to plant some bulbs in pots, but maybe later in the week.

Enjoy the evening everyone, I hope it’s not raining everywhere.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 26-Oct-26 14:53:44

Ye gods. Just back up from collecting a parcel from Argos in my larder down below and found one of these. … no hope now.

Charleygirl5 Sun 25-Oct-26 22:21:40

fgt Yes, I only added "girl" so people knew which sex I was.

I have eaten neither fruit nor vegetables for a week so to make soup. I fancied spicy but didn't have all the ingredients. I was able to consume mixed fresh vegetables, delivered on Thursday. A start.

Heating on but a cold day outside. Sun shining and a slight breeze. The storms missed this area but devastated areas very close.

brook2704 Sun 25-Oct-26 19:58:57

Thanks Jax, sorry to hear about the reflux though, hope it’s better soon

Jaxjacky Sun 25-Oct-26 19:33:03

Hi all, still windy here, but apart from a mere splash, a dry day. Safe journey to your family Redcar, Imogen is off to Munich at some very early time tomorrow morning, daughter chauffeuring her plus friend to Heathrow.
A quiet day, reflux back with a vengeance, it’ll pass.
Stay safe brook glad it’s not too bad šŸ¤ž
Enjoy your evening all.

brook2704 Sun 25-Oct-26 19:18:36

I’m just going to settle down and watch the Strictly results
We’ve stayed in all day today, the stormy weather has been awful, we had a brief power cut but it was soon restored. There’s lots of trees down in the area but nothing too close to home. Apparently it’ll be better tomorrow but the winds return on Tuesday
Hoping the family have a lovely half term break redcar, my Cambridge family are somewhere in Northumberland
Pleased you’re feeling much better Charley, hope corner is too
Take care all and enjoy the rest of the evening

Grandmabatty Sun 25-Oct-26 18:57:06

Good evening kitchen folk. Charley you sound so much better. Utbb I have bulbs that need potting up too. Fgt sounds like a lovely day for you.
I, too, have been quite lazy. The wind has only recently died down, so I stayed home all day. I did wash all the floors and sorted out the dishwasher. I also made up Halloween bags ready for next Saturday. Dinner was burger, chips and beans. Veggie burger and no sugar beans so still fairly healthy. Apart from that, lots of lying around. Tomorrow it will be back to early childcare day so I shall have an early night tonight. I just had the oven and microwave clocks to reset. All the rest sort themselves. Enjoy your evening kitchen folk

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 25-Oct-26 18:42:25

ā€˜Evening All’

I’ve had a delightfully lazy day. Read the papers, then my novel, now for a bit of Netflix. The apartment is small, so it’s very easy to manage. A quick vacuum and a damp cloth and the day is mine pretty much! Suits me anyway. 😁

You sound SO much better Charley (is this your preferred moniker now?).

Thoughts this evening with anyone in the quiet corner. Anxiety over issues is grim and exhausting. My heart goes out to anyone suffering tonight. Been there, got the T.shirt. x

Redcar Sun 25-Oct-26 18:14:37

I think it’s been windier today than it was on Friday. Clear blue sky and sunshine though. Too windy for a walk so I’ve pottered about indoors all day.
DD2 and family came over this morning and she put some bulbs into the garden for me. I had intended to put some tulip bulbs in a large pot, but it was too windy so I’ll do it on Wednesday when hopefully it will be dry and less windy.

DD1 and family were busy packing for half term in Denmark. They’re going to Legoland then Copenhagen. My son in law’s nephew is staying at theirs to look after the dog. I’ve been made redundant! As their house is colder than mine, I’m not too upset about it.

Welcome back charley don’t do too much although you might feel you need to catch up on tasks you haven’t been able to do.

Enjoy the evening everyone - it’s been a long day and will be a long evening!

Jaxjacky Sun 25-Oct-26 10:13:17

Hurrah Charley and eat too.
