I want to buy some. I don’t really know what I want though, I quite fancy a change from the super Amazon ones I’ve been using for years though and wondered if anyone has any suggestions?

Big Bloomers! That's the brand, lovely fitting, no disappearing up yer crack, sweat wicking. Last for years, no shrinking in the wash which even Sloggi do. As a fat, very sweaty lass, I found cotton pants just hold all the sweat and gave me something akin to "trench foot" in an area, err, um, not near my feet!!!

Oh please.... advice on underwear..😅

I like to know what is out there and comfy, what’s wrong with that?

Nanny27 Wed 02-Sept-26 16:23:46

Im with mojack on this one. Sorry.
My pants, my business! 🤣🤣

F and F in Tesco, best cheapo ones at the moment.

I’ve been buying Womens Basic Long Brief Anti Chafing Cotton Shorts Long Leg Knickers / Ladies Soft Boxer Shorts Underwear from Amazon as I was finding ‘normal’ pants were rubbing and making the skin at the top of my legs sore (despite wearing the correct size and style that I’ve been buying for years) Yes they are ‘granny’ knickers, but hey I’m a granny and they make me feel more secure when wearing a dress

There was a thread on knickers quite recently when people were discussing shrinking gussets (that word gives me the ick). I can't find it either, but some M & S styles were criticised for this.

Far too much information 🤮

I’d like to know what the ‘super Amazon ones ’ are that you refer to please! 😆

Have you tried chub rubs from Snag? Lovely colours, comfy and they stop chafing. Bit expensive but worth it and they last forever.

I think this is a conversation best had face to face.
So you know who you are actually talking to...
And why

Bought some shorts from Billetdoux while we were in France this year. Really comfortable, wash well BUT
they’re made in China and evidently I could buy some from A, rather than going to France.

I asked AI why manufacturers were narrowing the gusset and they said basically, it was to cut costs.
However, following an outcry, from Reddit and Mumsnet, on this subject they recommended Huha, La Colchis and Fanny Fit which are now designing ultra-wide gussets.

grin
I love some of these brand names.

WhenIwasyourage I recently bought really nice but comfortable knickers from M&S . 5 pairs for £8, I bought 2 packs. They were a mixture of plain colours and pastel ones with tiny strawberries all over. They did a mixture of plain and flowers too. Can recommend . I like the ones to your waist but they had other styles too.

singingnutty Thu 03-Sept-26 17:28:51

I buy Sloggi because they wash and wash and last ages. I did wonder if they were shrinking but came to the conclusion that I had expanded and needed a bigger size!

Thanks, TwiceAsNice, I'll have another look next time I'm near an M&S.

I got rid of the last of my sloggi a few weeks ago and all I wear now are my beautiful hand made knickers, from old t shirts, old jersey nighties and sometimes new fabric. All with lace and all supremely comfortable and pretty

Easy peasy to make, a few practice efforts first and then the one pattern that you want to make forever.

Don't stick stickers on my paper knickers 🤣

Don’t wear paper knickers sitting on the side seats of an open boat on a slightly rough trip in a mini dress.

I like Big Bloomers, despite the name they are available in smaller sizes and they are machine washable.

honeyrose Sat 05-Sept-26 20:40:49

I like midi ones, but they seem more difficult to get now. I don’t buy white or black as the white would be thousand wash grey in no time and the black ones may lose their colour. Can’t bear the thought of thongs - don’t fancy my bum wobbling about and having a cheese grater effect in the nether regions. I just don’t see the point. I’m in my 70’s and don’t consider myself - or want to be - sexy. Isn’t that the only reason thongs are worn?

honeyrose Sat 05-Sept-26 22:26:27

Cheese wire not cheese grater - ouch!!

I want to buy some too, although I don't actually need any, so won't really buy some. However, I keep looking in M&S, where I have bought some nice ones before, but the packs of 5 all seem to be either pink or lacy (neither of which I like) or various shades of yuck. And that's before you even start sorting out the thongs from the full-sized bloomers and everything in between. Why don't they still do cheerful colours with patterns or flowers?

Sorry, OP, that is of no use in your search for suggestions grin

They do actually. Look in multipack midi or shorts section, I was just looking now.

Online go for Sloggi on amazon, more expensive, but top brand.

And TU online have exactly what you want. I'm just frustrated by the way the 12's sell out quickly in the Sainsbugs shops but they have several packs which are exactly what you want. BTW, TU size big - their 12 is everyone else's 14's.

I gave in recently and bought myself some granny (full brief) knickers, cotton, 5 pairs for £6.50 in Asda. And very comfortable they are, too.
