Abused, but clean smile
I can remember putting my daughter's little white tights on her by bumping her up and down in them until they were on "right".

Remember doing that with my grandchild not too long ago πŸ˜‚

Bath once a week with those scratchy bath salts or Radox, Vosene or Linco Beer shampoo and that bloomin' awful shower thingy which attached to the bath taps, but invariably shot off halfway through washing your hair, so you either got a blast of scalding hot water or freezing cold! And I had really long hair (so long I could sit on it) so I had to endure my mother brushing it (with no mercy!) then putting it into pigtails!

I was watching an old clip on YouTube how we lived in the 60s/70s those awful rubber shower attachments were featured.
Also the ones that went on the kitchen taps, long rubber things that looked like teats.
No fancy pull out taps for us πŸ˜‚

I must have had a blessed childhood or a rotten memory
None of that
I do remember being given an eggcup of whiskey to rub on toothache and I remember having scorched legs sitting too close to the fire to get warm I also remember being given newspaper to wrap my sanitary towels in and told to never let Dad see it !! I remember not being alowed to wash my hair or to go swimming when I had a period and I remember longing for a fringe and a wart and never getting either

Whiskey for tooth ache πŸ˜‚ you must have been posh.
I too remember the corn beef legs (too close to the fire) πŸ˜‚

Love Sushi Mango - Australian men who just started doing these skits and found world wide fame! Saw them in Hobart Tasmania a few years ago.

I'd never heard of them before the bath video popped up.
I'm glad I found them. smile
Are their parents Greek?

Maria59 Sun 06-Sept-26 08:11:21

I remember being dried with the rough towel no body scrub needed then.

Very old and poor terrace in Liverpool. My clever dad built a bathroom from a small box room on the first floor, we had a cellar with a sewage pipe. There used to be an old copper in there for the washing and later a geyser with the bath

Before that yes, like many, we had the tin bath in front of the fire, no privacy but who cared when the oldest (me) was only 5. I was first, followed by three siblings. 4 of us girls under 5 then, three more siblings appeared by magic, later in time

The main room was such a mess on saturday nights, toys everywhere and all the bath stuff but we started sunday clean and tidy. Church first then always a family day out, even if only to the lovely local park or Otterspool on the bus. Later on bath night was sunday so we were neat and clean for school

I remember one sister getting a nit nurse note and the frantic use of the nit comb. I sat in the bath for a long time dragging that comb through my hair, I never had nits but the very idea mortified me

Kartush Sun 06-Sept-26 06:25:07

My mam couldnt be bothered, she just stuck my sister and i in the bath and left us too it. If we got clean, we got clean, if not too bad. I had to wash my sister.

No I meant a wart I ve no idea why I wanted one perhaps some friends had them or something I ve no idea but obviously I thought I was missing out 🀣🀣🀣

My Mum was always quite generous with bath water but my cousins had to bath one after the other in the same water. When we stayed with them we had to do the same. I have been put off bathing for life.

MissAdventure Sat 05-Sept-26 16:48:24

We sometimes got Matey for Christmas.
I can't remember it being that much fun, but you could squirt it on your head like a horn. smile

Grannybags Sat 05-Sept-26 16:44:34

I remember Matey! Yes made to look like a sailor I think.

4allweknow Sat 05-Sept-26 16:38:26

Bath on a Sunday, hair washed at same time. Sure that school uniform was also sorted out on Sunday and lasted a week.. At times I do think we have become obsessed with cleanliness for both personal and household purposes.

Sunday night was bath night. Three in the tub at once. Rota on the back of the airing cupboard door who had to come out first last.
Dried with a rough towel as one gran says.
Then the dreaded bone comb would come out 😩
No wonder we would fight to be last out of the bath πŸ˜‚
To this day I never have a bath on a Sunday night.
