Aha, there you are Roses!

Good morning. I’m up a bit later today after two busy days.
Yesterday the two boys enjoyed painting and were good as gold.
Our WI party was a great success. Most of the ladies were in dresses and hats and we enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. We had decorated the hall and gathered club memorabilia. The old minute books made interesting reading. A brilliant speaker kept us entertained and laughing.
I was very relieved to get the cake I made down to the venue in one piece!
Hope all went well with outings yesterday and good to see pictures of handiwork.
A quieter day today after some housework I’m hoping to finish off a painting.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Good morning from a cloudy Suffolk with more of the same for the rest of the day.

It is DGD2’s birthday today and she is spending the day with school friends before they all go off to universities all over the country. Other DGC are back to school at different times but all there by Monday. Really does feel like autumn now.

I’m off to my stretch class soon and then a quiet rest of the day tackling a pile of ironing. Very talented sewing on display here today.

Hope the day is a good one for all.

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 14°C.

We are been having Internet problems for days,so I need to be quick, before it goes down again.
Virgin Media, get your act together!

Oh Glammagran how awful for you. 💐
I feel for you, my mouth isn't healing after my procedure last week, it is so painful, I cannot put in the plate. I think I may have to contact the dentist.
I am not eating, but why am I not losing weight?????

Love the dress, Karma.!

The P.P is coming to visit today. I should have met him in the presbytery, about a serious safeguarding issue, which needs resolved before the weekend, , but I have been struggling with health issues.
I hadn't said anything, but he kindly offered to come to me
I was speaking to friend yesterday, who was a scary GP, she gave me a talking too, said I need to slow down.
I don't think I can go any slower! 😉 It is so frustrating, to say the least

I wish you all a pleasant day, whatever your plans.

hollysteers Thu 03-Sept-26 08:12:46

Good morning from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast.
The new front porch was finished yesterday after heavy rain. The men are coming back to patch up a bit of skirting board inside, but apart from that, that’s it. It’s strange to me at the moment, but I’ll get used to it. The old one was wood and had deteriorated so much, but was the original wooden porch.

I’ll carry on practising new songs today and thinking towards the family holiday in Greece next week.

So sorry about your dental woes Glammagran, nice work Grandmattie and I hope Madeleine had a good day🌺

brook2704 Thu 03-Sept-26 08:13:16

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry but with some heavy grey clouds
Have a great holiday with the e bikes melanie and enjoy the hot tub afterwards
What a gorgeous cake ginny well done you! The party sounds really good
It’s a nice easy relaxing day today, I might potter in the garden or go out for a coffee but nothing too strenuous. DH is off to the Men’s Shed group so I’ll have an empty this morning
Hope you can easily set up the new iPad Jax
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

Good morning Michael and all GN's on a greyish morning which doesnt seem to have decided whether to rain or brighten to sunshine. No doubt as I have much washing to get dry it will rain!! I am going to post to you in bits today, in the hopes that the wretched thing gets through. Have already had a bad start to the morning as the milk has gone off and I cant have any cereal. Normally I would dash off to get some straightaway, but I am really struggling to move about at the moment.

Do you know that saying "Take what you want - and pay for it" ? Well that is very true for me today. I knew the cost but will just have to grit my teeth and keep going. The show was worth every bit of the cost! I am of course, reaffirmed in my knowledge that Muker show is the best one there is, and, for me, worth every bit of effort and whatever it costs me. So it was yesterday despite a lot of rain, and sadly , finding out the hard way that probably that is the last time I can manage to go independantly. More of it all later.

First I would like to thank you all for your kind words and support and thinking of me. It means a great deal to me to feel I have all your friendship and interest. I always miss my dear husband, but on Muker show day, I always think of how we went together and all he did for me when my back was bad. Over the years of taking plants and flowers for the classes, the home made cakes, his wonderful prize winning photographs ,the music for the singing and the car would always of course be stacked with clothes to suit all weathers, so from sundress and hat through to thick trousers and walking boots we had the lot. As we say round here "short of nowt we've got!" Despite weather and illness and anything else thrown at us, Muker show day was a pinnacle in our year, and whatever was going on in our lives at the time, it was the day which reaffirmed our love for each other, and our belonging and our friendships over the years. Every time I go there without him now, it is that seesaw of emotion, missing him each time, but bringing back the memories of past times. It is also lovely that I know so many people who come there, from everything like hospital car, the choir, joining in all the classes etc., and there are still those who remember Brian, and that is a lovely feeling , that he is still part of it all.

But unfortunately, however much I carefully dont look at things that dont fit in with my view of myself, each year I squash down the knowledge of how much harder it is, getting myself there and the difficulty of getting all the bits and pieces onto the field etc. I could not possibly sit on the ground now - they would need the firebrigade to get me up again, but having to take chair, mac, food, binoculars and all the many things I need for the day is some task even from the disabled car park. Added to which the nearest car park for disabled then slopes down to the show field. Fine when you arrive but oh the struggle to go back uphill with things at the end!! I try to be totally selfsufficient and spend time working out ways I can get round problems and work out how I can manage (like the little red hen!) . To have to ask for help is not my way, and if it takes me three journeys moving things a bit at a time then I will. Ah but I think yesterday someone had levered the field up to a harder slope. I was soaking wet, in a lot of pain, and could only manage a few steps at a time. Thought it was going to take me some time to g et back to the car. But bless them two kind men came over. The first man said give me those bags and your chair, and where are you parked. I thanked him for his kind offer of help and suggested that he might like to walk at his own pace and just leave things by the car.

As he set set off striding quite quickly, I was left with two other bags. The thing I cannot work out is liquids, which always weigh so heavily. and the "liquid"rain had already soaked me to the point where clothes seem to be sticking to me. Another man came over and said give me those love, and followed the first man, for which I have to say I was truly grateful, but also really annoyed that I couldnt "do it myself".

It rather sunk in that , whilst I intend to come every year until I die, this was going to be my last time as a driver. Fine to still drive anywhere = as I intend to , but that bit between the car park and the destination just about defeats me. My big yellow peril wont of course go in a car, and the new little one is ok for shopping malls etc but the springing wont work at all on bumpy fields. Ah well I think I shall have to go back to the old ways. I can drive myself there, and then have a lovely dales pony saddled up to go round the field on!!

Right part one over, and I am now going to attempt to creak into my shower, then get dressed and off for some milk, whilst the washer gets going. Part 2 later and I shall catch up with some of the posts.

Now to hold my breath and hope the wretched thing goes online ok. If not there will be some very short, anglo saxon words being spoken, if the lap top doesnt get hurled through the window. A dieu GNs for now!

Llamas99 Thu 03-Sept-26 08:17:40

Whoa ginny what a lovely cake! I know you received many compliments and I expect it was very delicious!

monk08 Thu 03-Sept-26 08:17:51

Good morning all from the Black country.
Slept in this morning so haven't read through yet will catch up with everybody's happenings later.
Not much happening here out with friends this evening.
Hope Madeleine enjoyed her day yesterday.
Have a good day everyone whatever your plans.😎

Gelisa Thu 03-Sept-26 08:21:26

Good morning from a breezy Morecambe Bay.
SDog was returned safely yesterday although he was a little wet and covered in sand, as we had stopped on the way to give the dogs a run in the dunes.
I slept well last night and I’ve only woken up as DH put a cup of tea next to me. I’m not sure how I slept through as the workmen are particularly noisy next door but one. I think there’s a skip delivery. I will be glad when this construction is finished as it’s quite an eye sore I’m getting worse as planks of wood, insulation and household rubbish are accumulating. Our lovely next door neighbour called yesterday to give us a “heads up”. I feared he was going to say they had had enough and were moving. But no they are very much staying, but to politely tell us they are having an office pod erected but it will be against our adjoining fence. No problem!
DH has just come up to tell me the racket was a tipper truck delivering several tons of topsoil to the building site. Why at this stage??
I must get up. DH is taking CDog to the woods giving me a chance to clean and tidy up as we guests coming at lunchtime. A table is reserved at the pub restaurant in the village.
Beautiful work Mattie and Karma and hoping for some quick respite for Glammergran. Take care everyone 🌸

EkwaNimitee Thu 03-Sept-26 08:24:53

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle but rain due later I believe!
I've just been for a short walk in the park before returning to a bit of bathroom cleaning and a Tesco delivery. Gardening this afternoon may happen if the rain holds off long enough.

Yesterday morning was largely spent at the garden centre, getting my free coffee and then browsing the plants. I bought more tulip bulbs and two small shrubs that will fill gaps. That should be it until the spring.

glammagran, how horrible for you! I hope those antibiotics kick in today. Tooth pain is a truly depressing thing to have.

Gelisa Thu 03-Sept-26 08:26:16

A very poignant post Madeleine which I hadn’t read before I posted.

brook2704 Thu 03-Sept-26 08:34:54

Oh glammagran that sounds awful, I hope you manage to get through today ok and tomorrow’s removal goes well 💐

Peacelilydilly Thu 03-Sept-26 08:37:56

Good morning don't usually post but often read, just want to say madeleine love reading your posts and looked up the Muker show day glad you managed to get there with all your memories of times you went with your dear husband.

BlueSapphire Thu 03-Sept-26 08:47:10

Good morning everyone from a very overcast cloudy Northampton. Forecast is for a warm day, though, 24°C, so I have the towels in the washing machine.

Yesterday was equally dull, so had a busy morning indoors, damp dusted the bedrooms and cleaned the inside bedroom windows. After lunch decided I would try to do a mile walk each day (as a neighbour is doing), actually did nearly 1 and a half miles.

Sainsbury's delivery late morning, then after lunch a visit from a plumber to see if he can fix the en-suite loo. Must clean the bathroom this morning!

Sorry to hear of your tooth pain Glammagran and hope you get some relief soon.
Lovely quilt grandMattie.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

dogsmother Thu 03-Sept-26 08:49:14

karmalady

Good morning from s somerset, it feels autumnal here, the sun will be out after lunch

My dress is finished and I am more than pleased, This one is viscose twill, perfect for autumn and I am going to make another in viscose twill. I have ordered the fabric and a longer zip, I was surprised but I can do up my own back zip.

It was an easy day yesterday and I think it will be similar today, no big adventures, just a walk and crafts at home

That’s lovely, well done!

Georgesgran Thu 03-Sept-26 08:50:14

Good Morning from a grey, still Durham.
It’s getting brighter, but windy.

Thank you so much for your comments after my car accident - I’m fine, which is the main thing. The AA (insurance) was outstanding yesterday and my car was uplifted and whisked off to a local bodyshop and today, a little automatic Audi will be delivered until mine is ready. Not a word from the guilty party.

Obviously I have no plans until I get the car, then I hope to meet my poorly friend, who at last, is feeling a little better.

Anyone who has dental issues has my sympathies - I always say if God was a woman, we’d have had beaks!

Best wishes to all. X

Jaxjacky Thu 03-Sept-26 09:01:41

Wow ginny!
Bittersweet Madeleine but I’m glad you made it.

Gingster Thu 03-Sept-26 09:03:17

Good morning all.

Glammagran you sound exactly the same as my Dh.
He woke up with a very swollen face yesterday and terrible pain in his mouth.
After trying the doctor and his regular dentist with no help whatsoever, I phoned the private dentist who visited last week. What a wonderful lady. She prescribed antibiotics over the phone and our dear friend picked them up for us. This is over a 30 mile drive away, but he said he was in that area and insisted on going. What a hero. 🙏. So lucky to have such lovely friends and family. What did we do to deserve them! 🤔

I’ve just been up to give him said tablets, and he’s gone back to bed. .

Dd was so helpful yesterday making phone calls and going shopping for us. She’s lovely to have around in times of stress .
DGD went off to school and had a wonderful first day.

Nothing on today thank goodness, just nursing duty. 🧑‍⚕️.

Take care everyone. I’ll read your posts now with a crumpet and cuppa. 😋

Usedtobeblonde Thu 03-Sept-26 09:38:40

Good morning from a dull but so far dry Stockport.
I had the best nights sleep for ages as at last the Sciatica pain is easing.
It was particularly bad yesterday afternoon which makes it so difficult to understand why it is so much better today.

My GS seemed to have a decent day on his induction day at 6th form college, he came home so exhausted from a sleepless night and worry that he went to bed at 5pm and slept through until this morning, I have never known him to do that as he is a night owl.
His chosen subjects are Theology, English language and literature combined and photography.
He is happy with those.

Yesterday turned out to be a decent day weatherwise, what a pity it wasn’t so for Muker show, you are so determined and resilient Madeleine .

I hope for a restful day for myself and those of you who would like one, for those who are busy busy I envy you.

labazs Thu 03-Sept-26 09:45:26

what some wonderfully talented ladies on here!
nothing much for me today apart from makin some yoghurt, mopping the floors, hoovering, loading dishwasher and tumble drier!
then must catch up with my emails including a long way to my sister
have a lovely day everyone

WhiteSwan63 Thu 03-Sept-26 10:17:08

Good morning from a rainy east coast but it’s still warm.
There is so much talent on show today and I’m in awe of you all.
glammagran you are going through so much at the moment and hope the antibiotics kick in soon and the painkillers start to help. 💐

I’ve called mum today and she has my brother to take her shopping so I’ve a quiet day. I’m dressed ready to go and walk but it’s raining so I’m having a coffee then I’ll go with a raincoat on for the first time in months.

We had a lovely couple of hours with DS last night we played a couple of table games but I’m rubbish at them with caused a lot of laughter.
When I picked up the Indian takeaway last night the owner said to me ‘can I ask have you just been on holiday’ I said no why and he said ‘you have such a relaxed vibe about you’. Great compliment I’m obviously hiding my stress well.

Well it’s stopped raining so I’ll finish my coffee and go for my walk. I’m in competition with my DSs partner with our Apple Watches with excersise as long as she remembers I’m 20 years older.

Always thoughts to those suffering pain, stress and illness 💐
Take care 🌼

A very late Good morning everybody from Málaga! Our Yorkshire Lass and I have been chatting away and it’s gone 11am here already! “Mum do you have a cafetière?”
“Yes darling, top cupboard you must brought it one time you were out, I never use it but didn’t cull it!”

Finding our feet, sharing a bedroom and a bathroom …. 🤣

aggie Thu 03-Sept-26 11:27:57

Hi from a very pleasant Co Armagh
Last night the power went off and straight back on , internet went off too , I was on my way to bed so ignored it ,
This morning no internet,, so was using my 4g on my phone to let my daughter i was alive , turned all off at the wall , no change
By this time son and daughter were both ringing , my 4g is low , but grandson was now on the case !
While waiting for him I found the router , found a button , couple of dings and all restored ,
Well I’m useless with stuff that I used to be so up to to date “! So having a calming decaf and grandson was pleased he had nothing to do with
We think the power outage last night was to blame ,
Glad to be back on line
Wishing us all a calm day !

madeleine45 Thu 03-Sept-26 19:44:18

rather late but here is part 2, for those who might like to read a bit more, or tomorrow morning I shall be out of synch. So having loaded . So on the morning I was in a lot of pain already, and the wretched cellulitis wasnt helping, but I struggled to get all the bits and pieces I needed and then set off via Redmire and Carperby. That way you avoid the A684 which is the main road up to Hawes, but also dont go up via Swaledale , which would have been packed with slow moving traffic. So in the beginning it was quite quiet, but oh dear then met two vintage cars , an old ford prefect, that I remember was the first new car my father ever had, and another ford of some sort. They were driving quite slowly, but were a bit of a pain, as they didnt keep a gap between them, and it wasnt possible to easily and safely pass them both at once on winding roads. However eventually I got past and was getting a bit anxious, as I only had the certainty of the parking space if I was there on time. However I settled down happily up and down the switchbacks and then over the buttertubs, so that I was coming down the dale to Muker, and finally got there and showed my blue badge and told the steward that I had a space booked, and was relieved to get to my place and find it still available, After the hassle of getting ready and having to carry everything myself, and ignore the pain from my leg and back, or I wouldnt have got there in time. So it was a relief to arrive, and then my usual arrival pattern took over. So , of course, first thing was to get out my cafetiere, fresh coffee, thermos and fresh milk and did my version of the japanese tea ceremony, where I calmed down as I carefully made my much needed coffee, enjoyed the scent of it, and could here from the showground early classes being called, and could see quite a large flock of sheep being held ready to use for the sheepdog trials.

Then I made sure I was wearing what was appropriate, and then started to gather things together. My fold up chair, which has a back to it and metal sleeves which allows me to use them to hold on to to get up, and the back lets me sit reasonably comfortably, as no possibility of sitting on a bench or a chair with no back support. Then on both cost grounds, also ensuring that I am on the whole eating sensibly, being a diabetic, I take my own food , of course was able to buy two small pork pies from the great butchers Kitsons here. Well known for baking fresh and really lovely, they give a bit of variety and I have things like cherry tomatoes and sticks of celery etc. The main thing is to have enough drinks, and that tends to be a bit of a stumbling block. The difficulty is that liquids simply weigh a lot, but previously I could have walked back to the car to get more drinks, but these days , it has to be a bit of one stop. Get everything to the one space and then set up camp. You can buy coffee and drinks of all sorts but this time my leg meant that I had to base it on staying in one space, but of course my marvellous binoculars lets me look round the whole show, looking up at the fell race, down at the ring. Then people are very decent and trustworthy and as I am now on my own, I make my little base, and then sally forth to look in the tents, lovely flowers and vegetables, minature gardens figures made from odd vegetables , wonderful craft tent, elegant and beautiful flower arrangements, home made wine etc [ I had offered to be the judge for this at no cost to them, but unaccountably they did not take me up on my offer!]

So I took up my best position with a good overall view and of course quite close to Muker Silver Band. and it was so wonderful to be there and to enjoy all the things that were going on. Felt a little sad that I hadnt entered cakes jam flower arrangements plants, poetry etc etc, all of which I have put in in previous years.

Then dont know how but the weather somehow got it a bit wrong. We had of course been looking for rain, but we didnt really mean for it to mizzle rain for much of the show day!! We are sturdy folk and a bit of rain wont stop us enjoying the show - you just get a bit wetter and especially if you cant walk very fast. Ah well I visited the tents, caught up with friends and listened to the band playing brilliantly. Clive Owen - you might know him from when it used to show Amanda and Clives family up at Ravenscroft, and he spoke about his sheep etc. Then I really was very wet and in quite a bit of pain, and thought well I need to start getting back to the car. I needed to get the car down close to the Farmers Arms for the music at 5pm at the end of the show. But that was when I really started to struggle and was very grateful for the help from the two gentlemen. I divested myself of soggy wet clothes and put some dry things on . [not been a brownie guider for nothing.be prepared!] and slowly stashed things in the right places and then slowly wended my way down to the pub.

So it was rather difficult as my back and leg really did not give up at all and it was hard to find a way to lean or stand, but never mind. I was back in my place, the band of course played beautifully in spite of having played all day on the field. Norman Guys son followed in his dads steps as a very good band conductor. Wonderful playing marvellous atmosphere. People went into the pub and brought their drinks out, but it was how it should be, people enjoying mixing together, meeting old friends or those who only see each other at the yearly show. Catching up on what has happened , who has moved, what the grandchildren are doing, what price did the sheep or the sheepdog make at mart. Even if families cannot live closely together any more,it doesnt stop our caring for family and friends. I had a coffee at the cafe, before the singing, and although physically cant say I was in a very good place, mentally I was probably about high as a kite, like someone who takes drugs. The joy of being there, still being a little part of my beloved swaledale, reluctantly having to accept that I will need some help , and yet finding it hard to swallow. Never mind I was there, and the joy and memories and everything are in mind now, to keep me going through hard times.

After the end of the show, I didnt come home but went up through Thwaite and to our very special place and sat and thought of my husband and all the many years we had come there and how good or bad, nothing will ever take Swaledale from my heart and mind. We of course sang Beautiful Swaledale with the band playing. In fact if you might like to I think you could put Muker band, or Muker show online and you can see a little of the show or the band playing and us all singing. Perhaps next year I can entice some of you to come to the show. That would be a lovely North Yorkshire special day to enjoy. Ah well I am a bit biased I know.

So today I ended up being out all day, and my goodness I think all the tortoise rushed past me I was so slow and creaky today! The road here was closed for repairs, but the great yellow peril let me go out on the path. I had intended to get some shopping and various bits but as I left and went half way up the road, suddenly remembered it was the first thursday in the month and that I should be at a meeting at the library. So a swift change of plan, and I shot off there, then had to catch up with shopping and various other bits and pieces and only arrived home at 5.15 pm. Shattered but it was worth it, and hurrah, last antibiotic tablet tonight. Am trying to be kinder to my leg and put it up as much as possible, as I rather did treat it somewhat unkindly yesterday and it is paying me back. So I am just going to get something easy to eat and that will be enough tonight. Tomorrow my plans are only to get the local paper and to try and catch up a bit with things, return the car to the proper layout, check that I have the picnic set all in order ready to disappear off as and when it suits. It is probably going to take me all weekend to get back to some semblence of order , so now to see if the wretched post goes through. I would be grateful for any good advice on how to save things as I go along and so if Marydoll or any of you have any simple ideas of how to save as I go along, I will be pleased to hear from you.

Now we are into september I am going to think about getting a years swimming ticket. That works well as being from yorkshire,I like to get my moneys worth. So on a day I have to push myself to go out especially as it gets later and later when the sun is up, the knowledge that I need to swim at least twice a week, but if I can swim three times a week I am making a profit!!

I look and see all your creative works wonderful clothes and marvellous quilts, brilliant cakes etc etc, and when it comes to sewing I am the worst of both worlds. My mother was an excellent seamstress, even making our coats when we were young, making her own patterns etc etc, and she was a perfectionist, no crooked seams for mum. So, I dont want to make the item, it really stresses me out that I cannot make something to the standards I expect. But neither do I want to fork out a lot of money for something that may be quite good, but minimal hems etc on it. Now any sort of baking I can hold my own and feel competent to make whatever from jam to all food for my parents ruby wedding. In the past , being mrs organiser, when my son was little I arranged for a group of us from a playgroup to share our skills. So no money changed hands, but we provided the ingredients or material or whatever and the expert made a good job of it, where they were satisfied to see their work, and I was happy to make a meal for them, or sometimes would turn a lot of good minced steak into portions of bolognaise or curry or a good mince to go into the freezer for a quick , but good meal. Shame I havent got anyone round here to have another go at that. I wish we had a tardis, as I look at lovely dresses and hear of mouthwatering bakes and wish I could transport myself to Bristol or Morecambe or anywhere the great GN's are working their miracles.

Well only a couple of days now and we can all breathe a sigh of relief as children and grandchildren go back to school or of to college, and we can actually make an arrangement to meet friends that work without someone having to ring and give backword where they are suddenly needed to provide emergency help. If you remember the old carton of Dastardly and Muttley where muttley was a dog that used to say when he had done anything good Medal Medal Medal.

Well Gn's all congratulations on surviving the long hot summer and our time is coming. I look forward to finding conkers and shuffling through leaves and going up onto the moors where there is no one else around and being able to sing and shout and dance about like a 9 year old, and no one to tut or think I should "be my age!" May I entice you all to have a day to yourselves and do whatever appeals to you.

Fingers crossed by tomorrow I may be back to what purports to be normal!! Have a good evening all . See you tomorrow
