Passport to Piddington?

It wouldn’t be the first. I live near Hay on Wye, the self declared independent Kingdom of Books, since 1970s. It has been a great success in bringing tourism to the area, including the Hay Festival, which is now a massive annual event, attracting authors and book lovers from all over the world.

Have they applied to USA to become the 51st state? 😳

I must admit I laughed out loud reading about the village of Piddington's idea of claiming UDI (if that's the right term) so their village can't be overwhelmed by migrant housing for so many young men. I thought: only in England!! But actually, isn't this similar to the plot of a 1940s film called 'Passport to Pimlico'? Does anyone remember that film? And could Piddington really claim indpenendence from the UK?

Maybe Piddington should send out a petition requesting an asylum encampment be sited in the grounds of Chequers, the PM's country retreat.

And why not? Hasn't the PM himself said that better off areas should take their fair share of asylum seekers?

So build an expensive new facility rather than reuse an existing MOD facility? That sounds like madness.

Certainly the latest claim for independence reminds me of it !

Piddington residents have had their 5 minutes fame. Now back to BAU.

I really hope I never ever see a complaint from these poor terrified villagers when men dressed in black, with face coverings and Pink Ladies, all rock up to “protect them”.

Incidentally, good old fashioned journalists have published facts and figures relating to both groups.. oh the irony, the founder of Pink Ladies and her equally lovely sounding lady both have served prison sentences for the abuse of other people’s children.

Patriot Platform is led by someone with more than one criminal record, he too has served time in prison for kidnap. Several members of this group also have criminal convictions for burglary, manslaughter and domestic abuse.

Bit like asking Myra Hindley to be your children’s nanny and Fred West to guard your wider family group!
