Good morning from Bristol. It is also dark and dry here atm. Yesterday was sunshine and sudden fierce, icy squalls - very disconcerting.
Yesterday morning, I did my Spanish homework which took me a long time, my rain hurt by the time I’d finished. I then walked down the hill to return some library books and pick others. Bus to Waitrose, then home for lunch.
I had a little rest, only to be interrupted by a neighbour who wanted to send our most recent manager a mail. She was temporary but we expected her to be here a bit longer. I think she too was shocked to be dismissed and packed off yesterday, with no notice. Not to us either. Her email was blocked so no one could send her our best wishes!
More scaffolding is coming off - I think they spend a morning taking it down and go to another site to empty the lorry…
I made some cranberry marmalade yesterday, and, while the oven was on, two different sets of biscuits for the fete on Saturday and live concert on Wednesday.
I slept very, very badly last night, napping throughout the. It’s a real nuisance not getting enough sleep. Very energy sapping.
Regular FAB cafe this morning, probably a nap this afternoon and pottering after that.
I hope all is well with md. Hope the mountaineering is only up hills.

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny Croatia, approaching Dubrovnik. 6.30 am here.

An early TIB as I have an early excursion to a 'Lemon Garden', where we shall see how lemons are cultivated and the various products they can be turned into, including the Croatian version of Limoncello!

Back on the ship for a quick lunch, then out again for a walking tour of Dubrovnik old town.

Yesterday I went on a coach tour of the area surrounding Zadar which was interesting but quite long.

We have been really lucky with the weather and keeping fingers crossed for more sunny days.

Wishing all a pleasant Wednesday.

RosesandLilac Wed 28-Oct-26 05:51:05

Good morning, I don’t know what the weather is at the moment but hopefully dry so I can get the dogs blankets dried outside.
DS, DDIL and the DGSs are here, so lovely to catch up with all their news. Dgs1 is now the same height as me, he’s grown more than 3” this year, DS is 6’4” .
DGS2 is excelling at his swimming, he’s loving canoeing too. DGS1 prefers cycling and athletics, he’s represented his school and the borough at cross country. I’m a ridiculously proud Nonna 😁
Regarding poor sleep grandMattie have you tried taking a magnesium supplement? I find it helps me. You can buy it as pillow mist too.
Scaffolders around here seem to leave it up until it’s needed for another job. My old neighbour and his sons got so fed up with the scaffolders not removing theirs, months after the work finished, that they demolished it and sent a message to the company saying that they were advertising the poles etc free for collection on the local Facebook page! Oddly the company arrived within 30 minutes 😁 and took them away.
I’m comfortably snug on my proper airbed in my craft room, I have my Tassimo for coffee and the house is quiet. One blessing of being deaf is that little disturbs me!
The dog walker yesterday asked if the overnight storm had disturbed me (it hadn’t!). She and her partner live in a barn conversion and they’d lost tiles. They’re on the edge of the hill ridge, more exposed than us, and she said they’d layer awake listening to the tiles sliding off 😬😱
I hope today goes well for you all. Thinking of Marydoll and poorly others 🙏🤗 x

Good morning from s somerset, dry and cloudy skies are expected today

I hope so, I want to get washing dry outside, all the gorgeous bargain fabrics that I ordered over the past few weeks, they all need to be pre-washed to get shrinkage over with, starting with the most beautiful quality brushed cotton, which was offered to me at 1/3 normal price, I now have enough to stash away for years of PJs and cosy shirts.

Once the rotary is full, I will cycle to my allotment with fingers crossed that my primitive water-gathering system is still in place

I don`t need to think about meals, I have enough variety handy in the fridge and then after lunch I will get on with more knitting. I did binge watch Edward and Mrs Simpson yesterday, on youtube.

Candles lit during the evening and altogether a very peaceful ambience while I knitted, I want to repeat that this evening,

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire which it is not due to get light for another hour or so, but it is dry. I slept pretty well last night but was tired yesterday from being out all day and having travel on the bus! Please Lord let us have our lovely tram back sooon!! I met DD for lunch in the cafe at the engineering faculty of the university. It is an amazing building - an amalgam of existing grade two listed, and ultra modern glass and steel, skilfully fused together. The food and coffee were very good. She went back to work and I walked into town to Waterstones and then to M&S which was, as usual, disappointing but I came away with a sweater. Had hoped to come back with at least another as they had twenty percent off knitwear, but none in the size I wanted. I was extremely tired when I got back and did little in the evening.

Writers group at the library this afternoon. We may be few with it being half term.

Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire. It’s still dark and wet and miserable outside.

I felt quite virtuous yesterday as I tackled the ironing, there was so much to get through that I didn’t finish but I made quite a dent in the pile so I can put it out of my mind for a while.

Gorgeous photos Blue, enjoy your day in Dubrovnik. Croatia is a beautiful country.

I’m meeting stilllearning today, so looking forward to seeing her.

Tonight I’ll be out again having dinner with friends.

Marydoll I hope you are feeling a little better.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone from Lancashire.
We had a good journey home yesterday. We have been really lucky with the travelling to and from this caravan year. We'll do 1 more trip in a few weeks to shut down for the winter.

How lovely to see your DGSs doing so well and enjoying their hobbies, RosesandLilac. It's great to see their personalities develop.

I'm enjoying armchair travelling with you, BlueSaphire. Your name is very apt for the beautiful blue skies you are seeing.

Yesterday evening I carved a pumpkin to put by our front door. I just need to pick up some treats ready for any little visitors at the weekend.

DH is working from home for the rest of this week in case he is incubating hand, foot and mouth disease disease. One of his colleagues recently told him his wife is pregnant and DH is worried about passing it on.

Welcome Effiecat and happy belated birthday, Dilys.

Marydoll, I hope you are being well looked after in hospital. Sending love in your direction.

We have our monthly social worker visit this afternoon which she's combining with a Child in Need meeting. His parents will attend via Teams.

Wishing you all the best day possible. 🌻

Good morning from a chilly Torbay.

Yesterday started well with an early food delivery from Asda but when I wanted to go to the theatre for Props, my car wouldn’t start! Having sat for three weeks going nowhere, the battery was dead. Luckily, I have AA cover via my bank (another bonus from having a Flexiplus account with Nationwide) so they came promptly and got it started but it then had to be driven to my regular local garage for a new battery. I was pleased to have it back in time for the theatre company AGM in the evening, although that wasn’t the best of evenings due to the unexpected resignation of a hardworking chairman due to ill health. Sigh!

Lovely photos, BlueSapphire. We love Dubrovnik.

Happy hump day, everyone!

Good morning from a dry NE where it is 10°, forecast is for 14° this afternoon.
Yesterday was another day of doing very little due to the pain in my shoulder and neck.
I did manage to wash one load of laundry, things that didn't ironing.
DS and family will be travelling home from holiday today, they seem to have had a very busy time. They always send loads of photos.
Sister and BIL are visiting this afternoon and taking me shopping.

Hope Marydoll is feeling better.
Thoughts are with all poorly people.

Grandmabatty Wed 28-Oct-26 07:02:25

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and damp, although not actually raining. Ashcombe that's very annoying about your car. lateDecember I carved a small pumpkin on Sunday but the weather has been too bad to put it out yet.
Yesterday there were a couple of spats between the boys over who had a black felt pen. It did resolve eventually but it was not the way to start the day. I dropped them at school and headed to tesco for milk and fruit, then home to do little. I picked the boys up after school and they were busy drawing again and dgs1 playing football. Even his drawing is football based. I had a quiet night once I delivered them home.
Today starts my extra day of childcare. I'm having a long lie though as dsil is taking the boys to school. Later I'm going to the school library to tidy it and to read a scary story to 6 year old. Then I will bring the boys back to my house until they are picked up. Have a good day all.

Grammaretto Wed 28-Oct-26 07:04:57

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. A quieter day forecast. I slept better last night.

There were several roads closed on our journey cross country to the Gaelic class so we arrived late but our teacher makes it such fun. She arrived late in fancy dress for Halloween Oichde Samhainn or the night before November is important in Celtic calendar . We learned a traditional poem and she had made delicious muffins for our break!

Today will be yarn group and community lunch. Enjoy your lunch with Stilllearning, Baubles and send her my love.

I hope the tree surgeon will come and see if the apple tree can be saved.

No wonder you are a proud gran R&L 😊
Great photos BlueSapphire

I hope you are feeling better Marydoll
Thinking of you. flowers

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light and it’s much less windy
Baubles enjoy your meet up with stilllearning today
So lovely to catch up on the DGCs news and achievements roses well done to them both
I’ve a volunteering session this morning so an early start and then I’ll go over to the gym afterwards. Wednesday is one of the days I meet a small group of ladies for a coffee before the class so I’ll just get there in time for that. Then it’s out this evening to line dancing which is always enjoyable.
Thinking of marydoll
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

Good morning all. 👋.

I’m hoping the handyman/painter will be along late morning after he’s picked up all the supplies he needs for our work. As well as painting the conservatory ceiling and wall, there’s shelves to put back, blinds to go up ,light bulbs to remove and replace with dimmables, and a bit of wood staining to do.

Hopefully this will complete this week and we can get the carpet laid. I live in hope that we’ll be able to move all the furniture back in that’s been cluttering the lounge.

Dh will go out with his pal for coffee/brunch and I’ll meet my friend for an early coffee, mooch around the market and go to M and S.

GG I hope you’re feeling better 💐
Marydoll 💐
Madeleine 💐
And all others who are poorly, worried, stressed or anxious. 🙏.

Good morning all from North Leicestershire. It is quite cloudy and looks a bit breezy.

Our cleaner is due at 9 and I have a physio appointment at 10.00 and a covid jab after.

Sending good wishes to all who are struggling and wishing everyone the best day possible.

Gagagran Wed 28-Oct-26 07:24:28

Good Morning everyone from a distinctly chilly (3degrees) central south coast. Set to be bright and dry today though so just need to keep warm and enjoy the autumnal colours.

DH is leading his cycling club ride today and as usual it will involve a coffee and cake stop with a lunch stop (plus a pint) later. I plan to compile the Tesco delivery order for Friday and catch up with some desk work including sending my regular whatsapps to the grandchildren.

Our new cleaners are coming tomorrow instead of the Wednesday their Mum and Aunt (sisters) did for the last 12 years. It will be interesting to get used to new faces and hope they like us and vice versa! I shall also be out by a day for the rest of the week! (Thursday will feel like Wednesday)

We didn't manage the planned trip to the garden centre yesterday as DH broke a tooth off his plate and got an emergency dental appointment. There are still a lot of colours and flowers in the garden and pots so I am not too concerned but once November arrives I definitely need to tuck up the bulbs in bed, ready for spring.

Thinking of Marydoll and hoping the medics are sorting her out and giving her some relief from the struggles she has to live with. Such fortitude and a very brave lady. flowers

Have the best day you can everyone and hope that those with health issues or worries have some relief.

Redcar Wed 28-Oct-26 07:27:46

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s chilly and bright so far, a dry cloudy day is forecast. Yesterday I got washing done early and dried in the dryer as it was raining. I ironed some of it later in the morning. The sun came out late morning so I took the opportunity to plant up my tulip bulbs in a large tub.
Coffee morning in the church hall today, then some more gardening hopefully and I need to finish the ironing.

rosesandlilac congratulations to your DGSs on their sporting achievements. Enjoy your family’s visit.

bluesapphire thank you for the lovely photos. Today sounds quite a busy day again, I hope you enjoy yourself and make the most of the lovely sunshine and blue skies.

latedecember I hope your meeting with the social worker etc goes well. I hope the little chap is recovering from the hand foot and mouth, and that your DH doesn’t develop it. DD2 has had it several times.

I hope marydoll is being treated well in hospital and is feeling better.

Thinking of all who are struggling at the moment.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all, 11° here in Glasgow.

I am still in the acute medical word, but moving to cardiology, when they turf someone out can find a bed

Yesterday, a consultant came to see me and dismissed the recent episodes. He was possibly sending me home. it must be my bronchiectasis to blame!
He has had to eat his words.
The blood enzymes score keep rising, meaning my heart has suffered stress.

I had a heart episode during the night, fortunately the charge nurse was in the room at the time and called out the doctor. I was so relieved.
They are now going to repeat the blood enzyme test. This will be number six, one is only supposed to have two!!

The staff are lovely, but this is fast moving medical ward. with a high turnover.
Think of it as a holding pen.😉 The patients mainly elderly, however I am not elderly!
I have had little sleep, due the comings and goings and calling out.
Also, I am wearing a portable heart monitor, which is rather troublesome

Three wards are on lockdown, Covid and 'flu outbreak. I am a bit anxious. Someone in the next room has flu.

Sending my best wishes to al.l x

Morning from a dry, cooler S Hants. Smashing pictures BlueSapphire, enjoy today’s outings.
Yesterday was ‘bitty’ odd chores around the house completed, a couple of phone calls and a delicious stew made for dinner.
Today I need to start checking ingredients for the stuffing I have to make, six lots for family and friends.
It’s a big stir up with bare hands after some chopping, then it’s easy.
Reflux is still a bother.
Have a pleasant day if you can. 🦩 🦩

Good morning from a gloomy Durham. Rain forecast soon, but dry later, and I’m looking forward to Pumpkin Picking with DGS2 at a local attraction later - I’ll meet him there and wellies will be needed. It’s really not suitable for DD2’s wheelchair, but with brute force and ignorance we manage and the soft play is booked for later.

Hoping Marydoll has had a peaceful night and is getting some joined up treatment, at last.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where a calmer drier day is promised. I may try out my new mower if it’s dry enough later. It’s very soggy out there. Not much to report so I’ll wish everyone well. Take care🌸

madeleine45 Wed 28-Oct-26 07:43:39

Morning (just cant say good today!) Michael and all GN's on a dark still morning in North Yorkshire. I have finally managed to get up, having had a horrible night with bad cramp to add to everything else. I am having to move with great care, as my flipping leg is still sort of juddering and threatening to start again! I have the Nightmare song from G and S going through my brain and the bed certainly looks as though it has been to sea!! So whilst no doubt many people are thinking about the Budget, I am down to simple basics such as dare I go and make a coffee yet!! So whatever plans I did have in mind are thrown out, and the day will be governed by how long the cramp lasts and the only definite thing is I need to get down the market at some point if possible.

Yesterday was a mixed day, not getting planned things done, but sorting different things. The weather was bright, very windy, but sunny, and so I was determined to get out for a little while on the yellow peril and make the most of the sunshine before the promised rain arrived. I had one or two things to do, and I was checking emails etc and saw the confirmation of my order from Seasalt for a pair of trousers, but they had the wrong size on them, so the first thing was to get to the shop and check what had gone through and either change or reorder the right size or whatever.

I was full of aches and pains and unfortunately even with a shower and some painkillers I was still struggling and very frustrating as things like picking pens up off the floor was like a mammoth task, so getting out was the best thing to do. Once I got going, but taking me ages to start, I was quite enjoying the morning, being blown about but not cold, and the clouds racing across the sky and then at times an extra strong wind would have people hanging on to their coats and leaning into the wind like a Lowry painting.

I arrived at Seasalt and as I was in such pain and struggling, I couldnt face getting on and off and trying to walk to the desk, which is half way down the shop, so rang my bell and called out to ask if someone could come to the door. I saw one lady look up rather puzzled, but I beckoned to her and she came down to me. Explaining why I wasnt able to walk up to the desk and showing her the email on my phone, she then went off to try and check it all out. It took her some time, but yes confirmed that the wrong size had been entered by their staff, and so I asked her to change it and was going to leave, but she then said that the wrong one had probably already been despatched, so that rather than have to wait for that to arrive and send back, I could order the correct size as a different order, so that that would be being sent straight away rather than waiting for the first one to arrive, but that of course that would be returned etc. So it had to be a bit of "high finance" reordering the correct one et. The only good thing was that they were having this sort of pick a prize thing, where you picked a closed ticket out and they had different prizes on, so you could have 10 or 15 or 20 % off anything bought that day. Ha ha, for once I did well and got a 20% off so that took a bit off the price of the newly ordered trousers, and added to the better side of the hassle of it all. I have ordered them to go to the shop, I am not faffing about waiting in for the delivery people, so they will let me know when they arrive. Such high finance happenings here!!

By the time I had finished all the toing and froing with this and been for the bread it was already gone 1215 and I decided that I deserved a little treat and to enjoy the wild but sunny weather, so I carried on to the other end of the high street to my favourite fish and chip shop, where they know exactly what I want and cook me a fresh piece of fish and put plenty of vinegar on it . Then I went off to the park with it, and with my eyes shut I could think I was at the seaside. The wind was very gusty and quite wild, the clouds racing across the sky and the gulls swooping about so I could have been at Saltburn. The fish was beautifully cooked and fresh and I really enjoyed it and hopefully got them a couple of other customers as a man and then a couple passed by and commented , saying that it looked good. I told them where I had got them from and recommended their very good fish freshly cooked. So finishing my fish in record time, I carefully put the box in the bin, and then set off to cafe Nero for a much needed coffee and a chance to tidy myself up from the very windblown look.

It was a quieter cafe as I was a bit later and I think the staff were pleased to have a gap in the queues as they had obviously been busy, with many tables still with crockery on them. They are usually very good about clearing up as they went but when I had tidied myself up and found a comfortable seat I enjoyed my coffee and sent a text to a friend to see if she was in town to come and meet me. She wasnt free but I was quite happy to be able to check through my shopping list, read the bit of the Yorkshire Post I hadnt got up to before, and watch as the staff restored the cafe to its neat and tidy state and restored chairs to their right place. They even had time to restock shelves before more people began came in so think they were glad of the breather.

I eventually made my way home, with still no sign of an rain, and glad that I hadnt taken any notice of the forecast. Got things sorted out and then finally made up my beef casserole, tidied the fridge a bit and checked on dates etc. Then had something to eat and had planned to g o to the games night on the buggy again , but then the rain arrived and it was very dark too and so I decided that the car was the best bet, and off I went , nearly running into a most stupid man in dark clothes on a bike cutting across, with no lights on!

A few of the regulars were absent for various reasons and we ended up playing Carcassone, which suited me very well. I am gradually understanding more of the rules etc and ways to play without having to look up things and check all the time. That is the game I have bought but not really had much time to go through it and in any case I find it easier to learn by actual playing than just reading it up. So quite a good game, with less stupid mistakes on my part, and a little more idea of strategy learnt for the future. Didnt stay for a further game, as my back was too painful and I felt very tired in any case, so home and watched Downton Abbey. All things to keep my mind off my son's ear problems. He is seeing the consultant on thursday and I do hope that he gets better news, or that at least some clear plan of what they are going to do. It is constantly in my mind as they have said if he needs an operation it could be quite difficult, so can only wait to hear what they have decided and hope that they do whatever is necessary quickly. He already has a hearing aid in the other ear so it is an anxious wait.

So while the rest of the country thinks of the Budget and what may or may not be in it, I have been much more concerned about family things. I have of course followed the news etc., but have never been bothered to follow endless speculation of will they wont they do this or that. Well I suppose as I dont have millions in the bank or several houses, I have less to worry about.

I plan to go to the market, then get home and at last attack the ironing mountain, before having my casserole and going off to whist tonight, where no doubt there will be much talk of the budget and what it means to everyone. Being in a farming community the inheritance tax situation for farms is a major topic. The difficulty is that now some of these big companies see buying farms as a way to make money and avoid taxes. This means that the cost of farms is going up anyway, but that the tenant farmers dont own their land and the smaller family farms who had worked very hard to improve their holdings, so that on paper they are worth a lot of money, but the families have very little cash or savings. The farm will be run by perhaps 2 or 3 families so perhaps the parents and two children with their own families. They often work at different parts of the farm, so someone may be the sheep expert and another do more arable work etc., but they all work together to improve the soil and the land and constantly think of long term improvements for the farm, to get better crops and so forth, and to pass on a better farm to their children. But they dont get a big wage and work longer and harder hours than many jobs. Animals need feeding and checking every day , whether you feel well or not, and christmas day you will be out checking the flock and feeding like any other day. There are no days off with livestock. When they plan for changes in fields or whatever they are thinking of planting trees to give shade in 20 years time, the hedgerows are there to give shelter to stock but also allows wild margins to flourish and provide corridors for wild life to move about .So when the papers go on about wealthy farmers I can assure you that the majority of family farms have never had money to spend, rather whatever is saved goes into needed machinery or improving stock. Ah well here endeth the lesson!!

How lovely , have just had Bach on the radio and now it is the Trout Quintet, to cheer the morning. It is daylight now, rather grey but the rain is held off as the wind is still rustling all the tree but not as strongly as yesterday. No sign of squirrels or pigeons so far , too chilly to rush about so far. I can see my salvia in one of my pots swaying about quite a lot. I shall try to get a couple of cuttings from it today, to make sure I keep it in case of a frost killing it off.

Well I am still wary of doing much moving about , as my leg is still threatening to set off with cramp again, but need to make a move soon. Hope you have a good trip into Bicester Mike and see a few friends.BlueSapphire looks as though you are having a great time. I went to what was Yugoslavia in those days in the late 1960's and drove across from Zagreb to Beograd and then down to Trogir and Dubrovnic. We travelled all over and camped and enjoyed the country very much although the roads then were rubbish and with a mini esate, quite low to the ground quite boneshaking! No doubt it is all very different these days .Roses and Lilac, how lovely for you to have all your family visiting and of course you are a very proud granny. I think I will look up about those magnesium tablets you recommend and check that there are no contra indications with the medication I am taking and maybe it might help, whether actually or as a placebo, I couldnt care less so long as I get more sleep!!Karmalady I see you as the equivalent of a child in a sweetie shop, surrounded by all your lovely pieces of fabric and trying to choose which to use first! Greyduster I know what you mean about M and S. I went to their place in the designer outlet in York and in the past there has been been quite a choice of things I might buy, thins time apart from a bra absolutely nothing appealed. At this time of year any jumper I wear has to be quite a long line one. I hate short ones that only just come to the waist and then you have a cold gap if you are bending down or reaching for things. M and S dont seem to have any cohesive idea as to who their customers are. They are never going to keep up with the speed of the latest fashion for the young people, yet they dont offer a very great choice of interesting things for an older set of customers. I only used to use them a lot when I lived abroad as we all did. If you got something from M and S you could ask anyone going back to the UK to take it back or change it for you as there would be stores all over the country and you were not asking someone to go especially to a particular town. so they were convenient but never the height of fashion even in those days.

Ah ha the entertainment has arrived. Squirrels one and two are racing up and down the fence and tree whilst the pigeons have landed, 3 today, and are wandering around pecking at I know not what. Time for me to risk a trip to the kitchen in search or much needed breakfast, and then venture out to the market.

Wishing you all a good day, may you find time to walk in your garden or in a park, to remind us that we can still have something lovely to look at and walk in, whatever the Budget has to say. Travel safely and hope to hear better news soon from Marydoll, sending her good wishes .
