Everlasting Poppies

I rewear my knitted poppy, and before I retired, wore an attractive metal one bought from The Poppy Shop, long before that type was so popular.

It always attracted admiration from customers,( I worked in a bank) and my DIL, also in a customer facing job, said hers did as well, the one I had given her.

I always buy a couple of paper ones though, and donate yearly.

I notice that the newsreaders and similar on tv seem to have a different style though to the ones I buy. Wonder if they are using up old stock via the general public?

I always found the paper Poppies constantly fell off with those stupid, useless little pins that never held them on, so I started buying the metal ones, also the rubber braceless, key rings, etc. That way, I can wear them year after year, such as a keyring on my handbag, and I also drop a tenner in one of the collection boxes each year!

I have a knitted poppy that I have worn for years but I always put a donation in the tin, every year.

We do both, we each have a ceramic Poppy badge/brooch and we buy a paper one each year!

I have a beautiful poppy crocheted by a friend and former work colleague over 10 years ago. I wear it every year, and drop a donation into the collection box at my local supermarket.

I also have a vinyl one on a keyring, bought for me by my late Mum, which I clip onto my handbag.

That reminds me, I must go and dig them out before I go shopping this morning.

Have a good day all xxx

I purchased my jewelled poppy from a local British Legion poppy seller.

I always make sure I have change at this time of year and pop some in their collection boxes.

Same as Aveline. I have a bejewelled poppy (some profit was donated to RBL) but seek out the poppy sellers and make a donation every year.

I bought a handmade felt poppy ten years ago from an outlet for ladies to sell home made items. Each year I wear it but make sure I send a donation direct to Poppy Scotland. That feels better to me. I always used to lose the paper ones that are sold here.

In the past we all bought a new paper poppy every year. Now there are plastic poppies, metal poppies, even knitted poppies which we can bring out year after year - being seen to participate in Remembrance Day with no need to contribute to the British Legion.
I've even seen bejewelled poppies sold as jewellery by companies who pass on virtually nothing of their cost.
I know many of us do still contribute (especially us oldies) but I think there is far less incentive now.
