Alternative to cup of tea = hot chocolate with whipped cream

Picture the scene......

There I am in bed, 1 eye shut, 1 eye open, mind focused on lovely cup of tea. Down the stairs I go, kettle on, mug retrieved from cupboard, tea bag retrieved from its container, open the fridge door for the milk ?!?!?!?!?!?! NO MILK ... damn, blast and flippin heck.

My brain suddenly and miraculously conjures up an alternative.......

I put the tea bag back from whence it came and grab the container labeled HOT CHOCOLATE then for the second time my brain miraculously reminds me that lurking somewhere in the fridge is a can of squirty cream.

Hot chocolate made, lashing of squirty cream piled on top.... da-daaaa my alternative to a refreshing morning cuppa.

So, my question is, what has been your alternative to whatever ??????

Always keep a jar of Instant tea in the cupboard for times like these, not the best but will surfice for time being.
Just a quick note Morrisons have on offer Galaxy Hot Chocolate for £2 a jar reduced from £3.49 well worth stocking up if you need some, delicious even without cream.

Oooooo glammanana thank you for that, i get some tomorrow because my eldest GD loves the stuff.

As for the instant tea, i NEVER knew there was such a thing, but I do now, thank you.

I think that would put me straight back to sleep!
Yummy though.
My morning cuppa is designed to give me a bit of a caffeine hit first thing, then reinforced by my first coffee.

Not a competition but consider the Lidl HC. I did a very sceptical trial purchase (99p) and absolutely love it. Can't even differentiate (my son blind tested me) from the famous Cadbury which was my all time favourite. Bliss.

When I visited Minibaggs's student flat and she offered me a cup of tea there was only non-dairy milk. I can't remember if it was oaty milk or something else. It was different but acceptable so now I keep some of the longlife stuff in for 'emergencies' and have experimented with it. Oat milk makes a fine cheese sauce to have with white fish but, oddly, it's not as good as 'proper' milk in cheese soufflé.

Squirty cream is an abomination.

Sounds like a heart attack in the making, or at best clogged arteries.

I always have a supply of long life milk, living in the sticks with no shops nearby. I love hot chocolate, but squirty cream - no way!🤮

Good news ...*There is now milk in the fridge* haha.. phewwww. I ventured to our local co-op, drove hone like I'd stolen the car and swiftly made a nice cup of tea, that SHOULD have been sipped hours earlier, BUT lessons have been learnt and hot chocolate with squirty cream will not be consumed before 7pm every every again

I always keep some long life handy and prefer it to cows milk hot.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 21-Jan-22 14:19:04

Er - my long life milk comes from cows.

Kali2 Fri 21-Jan-22 14:24:29

Easy peasy, I never have milk in tea or coffee smile
nor in my Rooïbosch.

But it is very easy and quick to make oat milk- if desperate.

Er - my long life milk comes from cows.

😂 so does mine.
I should think more about what I’m writing.

And there's always got to be one fun sponge...hmm

I have strong coffee with Oatly barista (lovely and frothy but you have to shake it first) - or, failing that, black coffee.

Er - my long life milk comes from cows.

But I had been talking about oaty milk. Juxtaposition and all that 😜

So this morning before I set off for the gym I went to the fridge to get the natural yoghurt to eat with fresh fruit and granola sprinkles.
I spotted some butchers sausages, in the oven they went, I enjoyed them with a fried egg and some toast😋😋😋😋

At one time I didn't drink tea or coffee that is until following a lengthy exhausting experience giving birth to my first child child and when offered a drink of water surprised myself with a 'no thanks, but a cup of tea would be nice'.Never looked back surprising all, not least my self, who knew me.

Elizabeth27 Fri 21-Jan-22 17:08:16

I always have a pint of milk in the freezer.

sodapop Fri 21-Jan-22 17:42:48

Have to agree Baggs squirty cream is disgusting. Here in France they love the stuff and I always have to remember to ask for my dessert sans chantilly.

Blondiescot Fri 21-Jan-22 18:11:14

'Skooshy' cream!

Purplepixie Fri 21-Jan-22 18:17:17

Camomile tea is my go to nowadays.

grannyrebel7 Fri 21-Jan-22 18:20:07

I've got an unopened Christmas present of a mug, hot chocolate, marshmallows and a little bottle of Baileys. Think I'll have it now smile

BlueSky Fri 21-Jan-22 18:34:59

Always got long life milk and a loaf of bread in the freezer. Have been doing this since the’70s, as just the threat of snow would clear the supermarkets’ shelves.

CanadianGran Fri 21-Jan-22 18:36:58

Failing any dairy around, a splash of irish cream liqueur is good back up. smile
