No out of hours pharmacies!

I am really disgusted about this. Ran out of blood thinning medication. OH forgot to get the prescription yesterday and neither of us realised until 11pm. Been there before and last time I phoned 111, they issued a prescription to the out of hours pharmacy and we went to collect it.

Not this time! She said sorry there aren't any out of hours pharmacies open. What?! None at all? Not even further away. She said she'd get a clinician to phone me back to advice what to do. I checked on the NHS page and she was right. Not a single pharmacy open out of hours within 70 mile radius. It took four and a half hours for the clinician to phone me. A Doctor from an urgent care centre who said they had one dose in the cabinet and could someone come and get it. So OH got up at 3.30am and drove to get it.

But I am shocked that suddenly there are no out of hours pharmacies - there always used to be one - they did it in rotation.

Were there ever 24 hour pharmacies in all towns ?
They certainly did evening and weekends here.

I think we have an emergency number to phone, if you turn up and the pharmacy is closed. Will check that out.
