Lots of speculation here as to how he got his shiner. Did some one give him a smack in the face ? Must have been a left hander . Not that it matters but many would have liked to ! They don’t like him much here.

More likely to have been an excited horse head butting him, a rather common occurrence among riders.

As an older man he would bruise easily. 🐴
