A Lazy Day.

Well, I was up at 7.30 but - I am now back in bed with my Kindle, and a mug of tea.
It was cold, windy and raining when I went down to the kitchen first thing. Not a good day to be out and about.
I've no plans today, which is lovely, and nothing urgent on my ' to do ' list.
Oh there are a million and one things I could be doing around the house, but today, I have decided to be completely self-indulgent and lazy. One of the joys of being retired.
Mr G is downstairs watching the cricket highlights on tv. I have music upstairs, a brew, a story and music playing in the background.
I always have a bit of nagging guilt if I laze about in any way. I tell myself I could be achieving so much more. But today, I don't care. The wind is howling outside and it's still raining. It's a luxury to be warm in bed, reading. I might watch an old film on tv this afternoon.

Isn't it nice to have days when we just please ourselves, do as little as we want?

Do you deliberately plan and enjoy a lazy day, or does the old puritan work ethic, (or boredom) kick in and guilt you out of doing nothing much?

Yes, its nice: because I live alone, I do like to have contact, and unless I'm tired, be active in some way at some point, but a nice WhatsApp call or a zoom with others is OK.

What is life for after all, after we have done what is needful, or have serious caring needs to meet? Yes, I was brought up that we "should be a-doing" but working my way out of it, but surely it is to be enjoyed in those moments we have?

Have a good day.

You enjoy yourself girl😄 I’m still working but part time so this morning am having a lovely lazy time too, why not, am sure we have all earned it.
We don’t have to be ‘doing’ all the time do we? In a minute I will go and make a coffee and settle down to finish reading my book.

I think it might be late September outside, I’m cold and wish I was still in bed!

Might be my fault, the minute I bought a new fan the weather changed😲🤭

OP enjoy your day!

Sorry not to stick to your discussion.

I'm having a lazy day snoozing while DH drives us 6 hours down to South of France. Thd sun is trying, but it's intermittent.

He’s a Patterdale border cross…..

Bellanonna Sat 06-Jun-26 11:03:25

No puritanical ethics here. I love having nothing to do but read my book, watch a Netflix, read Gransnet and then go for a walk if I feel, like it. Today’s weather won’t allow that today though.

Bellanonna Sat 06-Jun-26 11:04:09

Oh he’s lovely. Have you named him?

HelterSkelter1 Sat 06-Jun-26 11:05:00

The same here. I have had for me a busyish week. Nothing important or very interesting, but something every day. Have just been for a short walk to the supermarket and got caught in a wild squall. Cold wind and heavy rain. But now its a bright blue sky and sunshine. Nothing planned at all for today. So will just gently potter.

I have 2 relations who can't do this. One in his 80s feels guilty if he reads in the daytime.. And the other also in her 80s feel guilty if she watches anything on the tv during the day. She will go to the cinema or theatre in the day guilt free. But not TV.

Oh well. If you can't do nothing in your 80s when can you???

MissAdventure Sat 06-Jun-26 11:05:01

Oh my word!
My daughter's dog was a patterdale crossed with something, and she was so, so clever (but a handful!) smile

I'm catching up on Gransnet, plus enjoying the WhatsApp messages and photos from family who are on holiday ☀️

Husband is downstairs faffing around finalising his arrangements for his golfing trip next week.
His buddies will arrive soon and then off they go 🏌🏼🏌🏼🏌🏼🏌🏼

Suppose I could get up now to wave them off 🥳

Being a terrier, I aspect he will be a bit lively, but I’m all in for that 🤗😂

HelterSkelter1 Sat 06-Jun-26 11:19:50

V3ra I had to laugh. Could get up to wave them off!! Did you?

Reminds me of a friend who when a visitor had to cancel said "dammit I had dusted"
