Crying over sad songs on the radio

Just listening to Michael Ball on Radio2, and he played Lean on Me by Bill Withers. Couldn't stop the tears coming, as it's so poignant. I seem to feel a lot like this recently whenever I hear certain songs; Carole King's You've got a Friend is another one. Never used to feel like this, so must be an age thing! Also, the fact that he's pjaying lots of Father's Day dedications isn't helping! Anyone else have songs which set them off?

I feel sad when I hear the songs played at my parent’s funerals. Time to say goodbye, You were always on my mind and Nessun Dorma. Also Nearer my God to Thee which they were supposedly playing when the Titanic went down. Oh, and It is well with my Soul - when you think what happened to that poor man’s family.

Slipping through my fingers by ABBA sets me off every time I hear it.
Also The Pearl Fishers duet just because its so beautiful.

Yep!! Lots of songs, including two Eva Cassidy’s (not original to her), Fields of Gold & Songbird, ABBA’s Winner Takes It All and Slipping Through My Fingers amongst many others.

But then since getting older and post menopausal I cry at too much! Happy tears and sad tears, at films, books, songs, and so on!

Even used to cry at some adverts and TV programs, utter madness!

Definitely Slipping through my Fingers and Our last Summer both ABBA songs
My mum was a trained singer and used to sing the Pearl Fishers so that sets me off, as does Nessun Dorma!

Quite a few set me off. At our ages we've lots of memories.

The Winner Takes It All - Abba, makes me cry every time [after a bad break-up].

Circle of Life - Elton John. Played at my mothers funeral.

Valerie - Steve Winwood. My cousin, named Valerie died 2 years ago.

I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston. For people I've loved and lost.

Skyline Pigeon - Elton John. Play it my funeral.

One Day Like This - played at a son's wedding.

Barcelona - Freddie Mercury/Montserrat Caballe

Dance with my father, by Luther Vandross - we played it at DH’s funeral.

Time in a Bottle, Jim Croche, (which will be at my funeral) always sets me off, and Elgar’s Nimrod. Joan Baez singing ‘Forever Young’ - really too many to mention these days!

I think many of us feel more tearful as we grow older.

Life and loss I suppose.

When you’re young, empathy is often lacking.
